Harrison Floyd is shown in a police booking mugshot released by the Fulton County Sheriff's Office in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S., August 24. The ETIAS visa waiver program will allow entry into EU countries from $7.70. And, of course, citizens of many countries need “real” visas to EU countries – which is not only a costly process, but a time-consuming one, too. ETIAS will join the myriad accommodation and “tourist taxes” that are already charged around Europe. What other tourist taxes are there in Europe? An inaccurate table of record-high temperatures in Europe circulating online shows that a handful of records set before 1950 still stand, but also that most records in specific cities were set after 2000. !” to imply that recent heat records set in Europe are not new. However, the post’s implication that record-high temperatures disprove climate warming is unsupported by further evidence. Temperatures for Europe as a whole show long-term warming trends with several countries having revised their all-time heat records over the past few years. Historical local heat records are not evidence for or against overall climate warming.

Republican hopefuls’ deficit goals are all talk

Participants in the party’s first debate for the 2024 election on Wednesday night promised to shrink the government’s budget shortfall. Yet Republicans have a bad track record for cutting federal debt, and some candidates are already touting pricey projects and tax cuts. The last Republican president to run a budget surplus was George W. Bush in 2001, but even that year was partly influenced by the cost-cutting measures put in place by his Democratic predecessor. With Congress balking at such a combinations, Republican candidates’ plans are all talk, little hope of action. That budget deficit is 122% larger than the shortfall seen in the same period last year.

Here are three major reasons why Nvidia stock — which has amore than tripled so far in 2023 — has not finished its climb, justifying our $600-per-share price target. That's because Wall Street's earnings estimates have been revised much higher than Nvidia stock's more-than-3% post-earnings gain. A forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio is calculated by dividing a company's stock price by its annual earnings-per-share (EPS). Using Thursday's midday price of roughly $486 per share, Nvidia stock trades at a 46.6 P/E, based on fiscal year 2024 estimates. That makes Nvidia's stock rally largely an earnings-driven story, not an ascent rooted in multiple expansion.

Shohei Ohtani has been one of the most brilliant baseball players in memory, and the first in generations to both pitch and hit at a star level. Ohtani, who is eligible for free agency this off-season, left Wednesday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds with one out in the second inning. He did not pitch for all of 2019 while recovering from Tommy John surgery on the same elbow, but he continued to hit. Ohtani leads the majors with 44 home runs and a .664 slugging percentage. He finished his pitching season with a 10-5 record and a 3.14 E.R.A.

Trump and his Georgia co-defendants have had a strategic legal breakdown. Attorney Kenneth Chesebro, one of the 19 defendants in Trump's Georgia indictment, requested an October trial date. The move for a speedy trial may have been a bet by Chesebro that prosecutor Fani Willis wouldn't be prepared. REUTERS/Robert Galbraith/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK, Aug 23 (Reuters) - Bullish investors are hoping Wednesday's earnings report from chip heavyweight Nvidia (NVDA.O) can rejuvenate a U.S. stocks rally that has stumbled in recent weeks. The market's turbulence is intensifying focus on Nvidia's fiscal second quarter report, due after market close on Wednesday. Following that report, the S&P 500 technology sector (.SPLRCT) rallied 8% over the next five days. Signs that the central bank intends to hold rates around current levels for longer than investors had anticipated could further weigh on stocks. In a Monday note, Goldman analysts said an equal-weighted basket of those 11 stocks had returned 69% so far in 2023, outpacing a 7% gain for the overall equal-weight S&P 500.

"Trump Employee 4" had initially been represented by a lawyer paid for by a Trump political action committee. Nauta is represented by Stanley Woodward, who previously repped Trump Employee 4, and prosecutors said that Woodward's continued presence in the case could also mark a conflict of interest. AdvertisementAdvertisement"Advising Trump Employee 4 to correct his sworn testimony would result in testimony incriminating Mr. Woodward's other client, Nauta; but permitting Trump Employee 4's false testimony to stand uncorrected would leave Trump Employee 4 exposed to criminal charges for perjury," prosecutors said in the filing. UK’s improving finances will bear no fiscal gifts

REUTERS/Yves Herman/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Aug 22 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Higher tax receipts helped Britain to borrow less than expected in July. The UK’s poor economic health leaves him with little room for fiscal giveaways ahead of a prospective 2024 election. Public sector net borrowing stood at 4.3 billion pounds in July, less than the 5 billion pounds expected by economists polled by Reuters. In the first four months of the fiscal year, borrowing was 11.3 billion pounds below the Office for Budget Responsibility’s forecast. The recent rise in bond yields will add around 18 billion pounds to debt interest spending by 2027/28, says Capital Economics.

Stocks are coming off a losing week as they suffer through the summer doldrums, but it could be a buying opportunity for investors, according to chart analyst Katie Stockton. She sees it as "a corrective phase, something that should yield a buying opportunity." The S & P 500 is down more than 4% in August, as concern over higher rates for longer and a slowdown in China hamper investor sentiment. That's significant, she explained, because it gives investors a time frame for what to expect from this corrective phase. For the broad market S & P 500 , she takes the next key level of support from the index's February resistance of 4,195.

US consumers have spent all of their excess savings from the pandemic, according to JPMorgan. The bank highlighted the softening of the consumer as one reason why stocks are poised to continue their decline. In a Thursday note, he said consumers have spent down the entirety of their excess savings from the pandemic, which at one point totaled more than $2 trillion. A softening consumer is just one reason why he is preaching continued caution towards the stock market amid its 5% decline, according to the note. Another headwind for the stock market is the fact that rich valuations make buybacks less attractive for companies when they're funded by debt, he added.
