New York CNN —Gas stations in many areas of Florida are running out of gasoline, as residents prepare for Hurricane Milton. Gas price tracking service GasBuddy reported that as of Tuesday morning, 14.5% of gas stations statewide were without fuel, a dramatic spike from just 3% on Monday. DeSantis said 27 fuel trucks were escorted by the Florida Highway Patrol to deliver fuel to stations in the anticipated impact area of the storm. “We have been dispatching fuel over the past 24 hours as gas stations have run out,” he said at a press conference early Tuesday. And the real fear is that the hurricane and storm surge could cause significant damage to the port.

"Modern Hydrogen produces clean hydrogen without renewable power. We can do this because we split apart natural gas into clean hydrogen and solid carbon," said Tony Pan, CEO of Modern Hydrogen. Natural gas is a cleaner fuel than oil, but it still emits harmful carbon dioxide when burned. Clients put the Modern Hydrogen system, which looks like a large box, where they would normally use their natural gas. A customer places a Japanese 10,000 yen banknote on a checkout counter while making a purchase at an Akidai YK supermarket in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday, June 27, 2022. SINGAPORE — Asia-Pacific markets mostly fell on Tuesday, with investors watching August pay and spending data out from Japan and as mainland Chinese markets return to trade. Household spending in Japan fell 1.9% year-on-year in August in real terms, a softer fall compared to the 2.6% decline expected by a Reuters poll of economists. That decline also came before spring wage negotiations delivered the largest pay hikes to unionized Japanese workers in 33 years. However, real wages rose in August, with data from the country's statistics bureau indicating that wages climbed 2% to an average of 574,334 yen ($3,877.44).

However, despite the measures, which have mainly focused on monetary policy, the World Bank's 2025 growth projection was unchanged from earlier projections. The international lender estimated that China's growth rate would drop to 4.3% next year, down from a projected 4.8% in 2024, in an economic update on Tuesday. China's economic growth rate is expected to decline further in 2025 despite a temporary boost from recent stimulus measures, according to the World Bank. The World Bank has long advocated for China to boost its growth through bold policy actions such as unleashing competition, upgrading infrastructure, and reforming education. "For three decades, China's growth has spilled over beneficially to its neighbors, but the size of that impetus is now diminishing," the World Bank said in its Tuesday report.

Nearly 16% of gas stations in Florida had run out of fuel as of late morning Tuesday as people flee north to escape the path of Hurricane Milton, according to data from GasBuddy. About 1,200 of the state's 7,900 gas stations are currently without fuel, according to the data. The storm is forecast to remain "an extremely dangerous hurricane" through landfall in Florida, according to the forecasters. Gas stations are running out of fuel and lines are long but there is not a shortage in the state, DeSantis said. Terminals with power, however, could begin distribution of fuel Saturday and Sunday depending on worker and truck driver availability as well as whether local gas stations are working, he said.

DETROIT — General Motors expects its 2025 adjusted earnings to be in a "similar range" to the company's results this year, CFO Paul Jacobson said Tuesday during the company's investor day. Achieving its 2024 targets as well as similar earnings next year would be quite an accomplishment. Jacobson declined to provide specific financial targets until the company formally releases its 2025 financial guidance early next year. GM's 2024 financial guidance includes anticipated capital spending of between $10.5 billion and $11.5 billion. Other than the financial targets for 2025, the automaker provided few significant updates at its investor day.

Energy traders are betting that Hurricane Milton will spark power outages in Florida. US natural gas futures have fallen 8% in the last three days. Front-month US natural gas futures have dropped 8% over the last three days, from $2.97 to $2.74 per million British thermal units as of Tuesday morning. The price drop comes as the Southeast prepares for Hurricane Milton, which is expected to hit Florida by Wednesday evening. Energy traders have leaned more bullish on natural gas in recent weeks before the latest bout of extreme weather.

European markets are heading for a mixed open Tuesday as regional sentiment sours further after a shaky start to the week, with investors watching the conflict in the Middle East closely and its potential impact on oil markets, supply chains and the global economy. Elsewhere overnight, U.S. stock futures were little changed following a losing day on Wall Street Monday as rising oil prices and bond yields weighed on markets. In the Asia-Pacific region, an initial rally for Chinese markets lost steam after a briefing from the country's National Development and Reform Commission provided few details on further stimulus. Earlier, mainland China's CSI 300 index had skyrocketed over 10% at the open at its return from the Golden Week holiday, but the index pared gains later in the session. Key releases for markets this week include U.S. Federal Reserve minutes and German trade on Wednesday, U.S. inflation on Thursday and U.K. economic growth on Friday.

Creating a 'Hellscape'Drones could be deployed by China to swarm over Taiwan and guide high-precision missile strikes, experts told Business Insider. Numbers countBut countering China's drone capability is in part a numbers game, and this is where Taiwan and the US currently fall short. When combined with other Chinese drone companies, that share goes up to well above 80%, it said. AdvertisementThis method would be vital for tracking and disabling some of the smaller drones China might use in an attack on Taiwan, said Pettyjohn. In 2022, oil flow in the Strait of Hormuz averaged 21 million barrels per day, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Saul Kavonic, senior research analyst at MST Financial, said supply disruptions along the Strait of Hormuz could send oil prices significantly higher. Oil prices traded more than 3% on Monday, extending gains even after notching their sharpest weekly gain since early 2023 last week. "But seeing where the oil price sits right now the market doesn't seem to hold much probability for such a development at all," he added. "A significant disruption to these flows would be enough to push oil prices to new record highs, surpassing the record high of close to $150/bbl in 2008," he added.

Israel has sworn to retaliate and is weighing its options, with Iran's oil facilities considered a possible target. However, some analysts believe that an attack on Iranian oil infrastructure is unlikely and have warned that oil prices could face considerable downward pressure if Israel focuses on any other target.
