Trump will join the South Dakota Republican Party for a “Monumental Leaders Rally” in Rapid City. South Dakota holds a late primary and isn't competitive in a general election. That hasn’t stopped those who are keen to be considered as Trump's running mate from openly jockeying for the position and trying to curry favor with him and his aides. Despite not running for president, Noem has continued to position herself nationally. “Kristi Noem has spent more time out campaigning for I don’t know what than she has in South Dakota.

Shelton had flummoxed opponents in New York with his big serve but the 36-year-old second seed Djokovic was able to harness his experience to neutralise a third-set surge from the young American. He next faces the winner of a match between top seed and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz and third seed Daniil Medvedev. "These are the kind of matches and occasions that I still thrive on, that still get me going," Djokovic said on court. Shelton handed Djokovic a break in the sixth game of the first set with a series of unforced errors, and the unseeded American was unable to convert his own break point chance in the ninth. Playing in only his seventh U.S. Open singles match, Shelton triumphed in a 30-shot rally before converting a break point in the eighth game, humbling Djokovic, who was appearing in his 100th singles match at the hardcourt major.

NEW YORK (AP) — An upcoming civil trial over allegations that former president Donald Trump lied about his wealth could last as long as three months, according to a schedule laid out Friday by the judge hearing the case. Opening arguments are expected Oct. 2 in the trial over a lawsuit filed against Trump and his family business by New York Attorney General Letitia James. In the suit, James has said Trump deceived lenders, potential business associates and others by chronically exaggerating the value of his real estate holdings. The trial is expected to feature extensive amounts of expert testimony over how much Trump holdings, like his golf courses and skyscrapers, were actually worth. Judge Arthur Engoron, in an order filed Friday, said the trial should end by Dec. 22, though he added that the lawyers handling the case could ask for additional time if necessary.

A US official said: "If Russia has an issue with that, they can withdraw their tanks from Ukraine." The official was responding to Russia's complaints over the US announcement that it would send Ukraine tank rounds with depleted uranium. "If Russia has an issue with that, they can withdraw their tanks from Ukraine," they added. The Biden administration announced plans on Wednesday to give Ukraine 120 mm ammunition made from depleted uranium, alongside other weaponry. The UK has already sent Ukraine some of the ammunition for use in UK-supplied Challenger tanks, angering Russia.

Beshear's campaign released a TV ad featuring a prosecutor denouncing the law's lack of exceptions for rape or incest. Matt Bevin played up his opposition to abortion while Beshear focused on education and other issues. Since then, Kentucky's “trigger law” abortion ban — passed in 2019 — took effect when Roe v. Wade was struck down. In Kentucky, Cameron’s office has gone to court to defend the trigger law ban and another anti-abortion state law that outlaws abortion after the sixth week of pregnancy. During a GOP primary debate in March, Cameron expressed support for the near-total abortion ban.

The US officially announced Wednesday it will send Ukraine depleted-uranium tank ammunition. This powerful ammunition gives Kyiv the capability to not only punch holes in Russian armor, but also do additional damage inside enemy vehicles as the fragments potentially ignite. The Pentagon listed the 120 mm depleted-uranium tank ammunition as part of a $175 security assistance package that was officially revealed on Wednesday. The US is not the first NATO member to send Ukraine depleted-uranium ammunition. The latest US security assistance announcement, which includes the depleted-uranium tank rounds, comes ahead of what is expected to be an imminent delivery of 31 Abrams tanks.

Dan’s research and teaching focus is on using AI for legal services and the regulation of AI in society. For instance, we can develop AI tools to help individuals understand their responsibilities and rights, and preserve and enforce those rights. People in businesses, large and small, are already using chatbots, AI assistants and other AI tools to help them comply with laws, regulations and internal policies. Additionally, new roles are emerging in the legal industry, such as legal engineers who build systems, legal data scientists and legal operations professionals. AI tools will then quickly re-optimize decisions associated with inventory shipments, staffing and promotions.

Excerpts from recent editorials in the United States and abroad:Aug. 31The Washington Post on sexism in the U.S. militaryNearly eight years ago, the United States opened up all military combat roles to women, clearing a pathway for female service members to join the most elite military forces. Women at multiple military bases reported that other soldiers would bang on their doors in the middle of the night. Even a program that once represented the highest ideals of the United States — its compassion, its expertise and its resources — is becoming a casualty of the country’s most destructive and divisive forces. Lack of adequate cooling during hot summers has plagued Southern states for decades, but climate change has now made it a problem in Northern states as well — Michigan, Minnesota, South Dakota, Indiana. Ukraine received the first batch of uranium munitions from the United Kingdom in March to use in its UK-made Challenger 2 tanks.

CNN —There are two Republican primaries as an election season that defies conventional metrics and campaign trail traditions crashes into its fall stretch. Trump has already convinced millions of his supporters that he is the current legitimate president after his false claims of fraud in the 2020 election. Many of the candidates in the second tier appear to be running for the nomination of a Republican Party that may not even exist anymore. Given these numbers, why would Trump drop his boycott and attend the second GOP presidential debate at the Ronald Reagan library in California later this month? “We need to narrow it down to find a leader who can get the Republican Party back on the right track and that could get us back to winning elections again,” Hogan said.

CNN —Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa was sworn in for a second five-year term Monday, a week after securing an absolute majority in a disputed presidential vote. The arrests had followed the release of a report by the Zimbabwe NGO Forum that documented irregularities on polling day, according to Amnesty International. The opposition CCC party told CNN on Monday it will not challenge Mnangagwa’s victory at the courts, because it is unsure of getting justice through the country’s legal system. Mnangagwa took the reins of power for another term in a colorful ceremony attended by thousands of Zimbabweans and regional leaders. Mnangagwa, nicknamed “The Crocodile,” succeeded Mugabe after helping to orchestrate the coup that ousted him.

Shelton went to the University of Florida, where the men’s tennis coach happened to be Bryan Shelton, who is well respected in tennis circles for emphasizing a mastery of the game over chasing victories. There was no grand plan to move Ben quickly up the tennis ranks. “You work on something, you work on something, you keep working on it, and then, six months later, you see that you can do it,” the younger Shelton told me this week. Then he began running roughshod in ATP Challenger tournaments, the tennis equivalent of Triple-A baseball.

Experts say a reassignment is often a good sign and may mean a company wants to keep you. Challenger told Insider that over the past few years, companies focused on reassigning workers internally because it was hard to find replacements amid the labor shortage. "Just the act of reassignment does not signal that a company wants you gone," Julia Pollak, the chief economist at ZipRecruiter, told Insider. Yolanda M. Younger voters are again playing a role - but this time they are gravitating to dark horse candidate who has become the DPP's closest challenger. Minneapolis CNN —Last month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics delivered a jobs report that only Baby Bear could offer: not too hot, not too cold, but just right. While that figure was well below the breakneck pace of job growth over the past three years, it was roughly in line with the monthly average seen in the decade before the pandemic. The August jobs report, set to be released on Friday at 8:30 a.m. ET, is expected to show that the labor market will stay in this sweet spot. The Fed has been wanting to see more slack in the labor market in its battle to bring down inflation.
