CNN —It appears the actors’ strike is approaching its final scene. That progress has led to hopes that an agreement could be reached as early as this week or next week, the people said. One such issue, the use of artificial intelligence, has proved to be a sticking point between the writers and studios and required careful examination. SAG-AFTRA told its members early Monday that over the weekend it had “discussed all open proposals,” including A.I., with the studios. That would mean actors, crews, and much of the Hollywood industry would have to endure the holiday season out of work.

Mr. Pence was the governor of Indiana, an evangelical Christian — he titled his memoir “So Help Me God” — who grew up in the rolling farmland of Indiana. He had endorsed one of Mr. Trump’s primary opponents, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas. And he was, friends said, discomfited by the freewheeling ways of Mr. Trump, a Queens-born playboy entrepreneur and casino owner who had thrived in the Democratic world of New York. But Mr. Pence was facing a challenging re-election campaign against a Democrat he had only narrowly defeated in 2012. After a few days of consideration — and speaking to his wife, Karen, consulting political advisers and friends, and spending time in prayer, by his account — Mr. Pence accepted Mr. Trump’s offer.

CNN —At first glance, the American actor and filmmaker Fisher Stevens wasn’t the obvious choice to helm the four-part Netflix documentary series about English soccer great David Beckham. “When they first called me, my response was …’why me for David Beckham?’” the 59-year-old said to CNN Sport’s Don Riddell. “I said, ‘Hey, I have a call with David Beckham, but I’m not sure,’” Fisher fondly recalled. James Gorman has spent nearly 14 years as Morgan Stanley CEO. Photo: Michael Bucher/The Wall Street JournalJames Gorman guided Morgan Stanley through years of superlow interest rates and booming stock markets. His successor, Ted Pick , might have to come up with some new ideas for a new era. Gorman, who will step down at the end of the year after almost 14 years as chief executive, bet big on wealth and asset management by absorbing all of Smith Barney and later buying E*Trade and Eaton Vance. And by valuation, Morgan Stanley has often been the leader of the pack, generally trading at a higher price-to-book ratio than even JPMorgan since the start of last year.

In the end, the only man who could unify House Republicans behind him was a relatively little-known and mild-mannered evangelical Christian from Louisiana. While Gaetz maintains otherwise, his angry GOP colleagues have plenty of evidence to make their case that it was an attention ploy. Rep. REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOct 27 (Reuters) - Morgan Stanley (MS.N) gave its incoming CEO Ted Pick and the two other executives considered for the top job one-time bonuses of $20 million each, the bank said in a filing on Friday. The three-decade Morgan Stanley veteran started his career at the bank and came up the ranks to run trading, equity capital markets and fixed income. It is unusual for Wall Street CEO candidates to stay on if they are not selected, and the bonuses offered at Morgan Stanley break from that tradition. Since becoming CEO in 2010, Gorman has transformed Morgan Stanley, creating a wealth management behemoth and making transformative acquisitions of broker E*Trade and asset manager Eaton Vance.

[1/5] Volunteers gather at the Donald Trump 2024 campaign headquarters in Iowa ahead of a door-knocking event in Urbandale, Iowa, U.S., October 14, 2023. Reuters interviews with nearly 40 party leaders, Trump staff and campaign volunteers in Iowa show how the former president has learned from his past mistakes. In 2016, Trump, thinking he had little chance of winning Iowa, kept his operation in the state threadbare. "I don't think people realize in 2016 how shoestring that was," said Jeff Kaufmann, chairman of the Iowa Republican Party, referring to the Trump campaign. In 2016 Trump didn't have the staffing or digital infrastructure to follow up on such leads, meaning many Trump supporters like Jones and her husband stayed home on caucus night.

Circuit Court of Appeals found that immigration advocates lacked the legal authority to sue Abbott over the transportation prohibition. Abbott, a Republican, has criticized Democrat Biden for failing to adequately secure the border and stepped up the state's response to record migrant arrivals in recent years. The 5th Circuit found that Abbott's authority as governor barred the immigration advocates from challenging the executive order. Apple TV+ is a small but influential player in the streaming wars. And Apple has signaled it wants to grow its streaming content slate at a time when other media companies are contracting. Apple is "always looking" for films that "highlight humanity," according to one of the agency documents. As a side hustle of a massive retail business, Apple TV+ can fly under the radar, insulated from economic pressures that have roiled the entertainment business. (Apple TV+ was the first streamer to win the best picture Oscar, in 2022, for "CODA," which it acquired at the Sundance Film Festival).
