It remains to be seen what Tesla will do about Elon Musk's pay just a few weeks after a Delaware judge voided his $56 billion compensation package, the largest CEO pay package in public corporate history. But Musk has already made some big decisions, including a declaration of a war on the state of Delaware. "Never incorporate your company in the state of Delaware" Musk posted on X shortly after the decision. "Put simply, neither the Compensation Committee nor the Board acted in the best interests of the Company when negotiating Musk's compensation plan. But even as those figures have risen, Musk's compensation would be an "outlier among outliers," said Matteo Tonello, managing director at The Conference Board.

(AP) — The Missouri Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected the latest attempt by Republican state officials to block taxpayer dollars from going to Planned Parenthood, citing a failure in the state's legal appeal. The high court's decision upholds a ruling by a trial judge, who found that a 2022 funding bill violated the state constitution. The Supreme Court said Republican Attorney General Andrew Bailey's office failed to appeal the equal protection claim and it thus must stand. Missouri's Republican-led Legislature has tried for years to block any health care funding from going to Planned Parenthood because of its association with abortion. Lawmakers have been trying since then to reinstate a ban on funding for Planned Parenthood.

Antonio Masiello | Getty ImagesTwo weeks after a Delaware court ruled that Tesla must rescind Elon Musk's $56 billion pay package, the company's board remains mum on what the decision means for shareholders or what's next for the mercurial CEO. CNBC sent requests for additional information to Tesla investor relations, Musk and some board members. "Given the high stakes involved, it is likely that Tesla will appeal the decision," Kastiel said in an email. In the absence of a successful appeal, "any new compensation arrangement with him will have to be assessed" in light of McCormick's decision, Kastiel said. Kastiel also said that the decision likely makes Musk and Tesla more vulnerable to other types of lawsuits.

Yet it almost felt that way during Stewart's return to “The Daily Show” Monday night. Neither will that night prove Stewart can regain the position of prominence he stepped away from in August 2015. He moved swiftly into the news, and up-to-date doings of President Joe Biden and his Republican rival. “The Daily Show” even found one where Trump said he couldn't remember talking about how good his memory is. The “campaign” interlude allowed Stewart, and viewers who had drifted away from “The Daily Show” after he left, to become acquainted with unfamiliar cast members.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump sits in the courtroom during his civil fraud trial at New York Supreme Court on January 11, 2024 in New York City. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts on Tuesday told Department of Justice special counsel Jack Smith to respond to a request by Donald Trump to delay implementing an appeals court ruling that found he does not have presidential immunity in his federal election interference criminal case. Later Tuesday, a group of former officials in Republican presidential administrations from Richard Nixon to Trump in a filing with the Supreme Court said Trump has failed to make "two of the mandatory showings required for a delay of" the appeals court ruling. "This Court should deny a stay in this case because Mr. Trump's claim of such a boundless immunity is wrong," the filing said. Trump, in his filing Monday, asked the Supreme Court to delay the appeals court's mandate.

The decision is an early win for the Biden administration as it grapples with a flurry of other legal challenges that drugmakers have filed against the Medicare drug price negotiations. The judge's ruling won't end the legal battle over the policy, which could end up at the Supreme Court. A slate of major companies with drugs selected for negotiations, including J&J, Merck , and Bristol Myers Squibb , have filed separate lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of the price talks. The suit also argued that the price talks violate the Eighth Amendment because they include a "crippling" excise tax aimed at forcing drugmakers to accept the government-dictated price of medicines. The groups also argued that the price talks violate due process by denying pharmaceutical companies and the public input on how Medicare negotiations will be implemented.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump speaks during a press conference held at Mar-a-Lago on February 08, 2024 in Palm Beach, Florida. Lawyers for Donald Trump on Monday asked the Supreme Court to temporarily halt a ruling rejecting his claim that he is immune from being criminally charged with trying to overturn his loss in the 2020 presidential election. "Without immunity from criminal prosecution, the Presidency as we know it will cease to exist," Trump's attorneys wrote in an application for the Supreme Court to pause the ruling from a lower court. Trump's immunity claim "presents a novel, complex, and momentous question that warrants careful consideration on appeal," his attorneys wrote. Trump's application for a stay keeps the case on hold, at least until the Supreme Court issues a decision on whether or not to grant the request.

Former President Donald Trump kicked off a last-ditch effort to preserve his claim of total immunity from criminal charges by asking the Supreme Court on Monday to intervene, filing an application for a stay of a lower-court ruling that he cannot use immunity as a defense. “President Trump is the leading candidate for President in the 2024 election,” Trump’s attorneys wrote in the application. In December, Euromonitor International released its annual list of the Top 100 City Destinations in the world for 2023. The report compared cities using 55 metrics across six categories, including tourism infrastructure, health and safety, sustainability, tourism performance, and more. Euromonitor International's analysis also included a top 10 ranking of global cities based on the number of international arrivals. New York City was the only destination in the United States to make Euromonitor International's top 10 list. This, in turn, will drive consumer demand for intraregional travel, especially as travel purchases are frequently discretionary," Nadejda Popova, Senior Manager at Euromonitor International says of the report's findings.

(AP) — President Joe Biden's personal attorney said Sunday he went to both the special counsel and the attorney general to register concerns over what he viewed to be pejorative and unnecessary digs at the president's memory. “This is a report that went off the rails,” Bob Bauer said on CBS' Face the Nation Sunday. “It’s evident that he had committed to make the report public the way that the special counsel had written it,” said Bauer. He said the special counsel made a decision “to cherry pick in a very misleading way” what references made it in and what didn't. The Justice Department has not commented on the criticism.
