The executive order along with anti-China moves by lawmakers and agencies means the overall policy is unclear and riddled with landmines. "It will be very important to monitor how this executive order is being received in Congress." The executive order affects venture funds and private equity firms that invest in Chinese companies in semiconductors and microelectronics, quantum information technologies and artificial intelligence. MORE RESTRICTIONSSome of the investors said the administration's approach in framing the executive order had been more consultative. U.S. Representative Maxine Waters, Biden's fellow Democrat, said on Friday the executive order and rulemaking on outbound investment must be "broadened and strengthened."

Are you referring to the S & P index itself, or one of the variations, and which symbol(s)? Thanks, Doug W. There are many exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that track the S & P 500 . The top three by assets under management, in order from largest to smallest, would be the State Street Global Advisors' SPDR S & P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) , BlackRock's iShares Core S & P 500 ETF (IVV) , and the Vanguard S & P 500 ETF (VOO) . As mentioned in the question, there are lots of ETFs that track the S & P 500, so by no means are these three the only games in town. Volume usually does pick up outside of normal trading hours when an event takes place, such as an earnings release.

The inverted yield curve and The Conference Board's LEI are two indicators that inform his view. Instead, investors should be paying attention to indicators like the Treasury yield curve, The Conference Board's Leading Economic Index, and money growth. Here's the yield curve. And the start of a recession typically comes a bunch of of months after the yield curve inverts. The yield curve didn't invert until less than a year ago.

A growing number of investors appear to be trying to squeeze additional cash from long-term bonds with the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond BuyWrite Strategy ETF (TLTW) . "Popular Treasury ETFs, such as [iShares 7-10 Year Treasury Bond ETF ] and [ iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF ], could lose another 4-8% if yields spike by the end of September," Woodard said. The TLTW presents a strategy to thread the needle and offset declines in bond prices with income from selling call options. The fund works by buying the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT) and then selling call options with strike prices roughly 2% above the market price of the underlying fund. The TLTW also comes with a higher cost than vanilla Treasury funds.

Ark Invest CIO Cathie Wood told Bloomberg News earlier this week that she expected the SEC to make a decision on multiple funds at once. Crypto investment firm Grayscale is still awaiting a court decision after the SEC repeatedly rejected its proposal to convert the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust into an ETF. The Cboe BZX exchange filed with the SEC for a rule change in April that would allow the listing of the Ark21 spot bitcoin fund. The filing has since been amended several times and now includes a surveillance-sharing provision that was introduced in BlackRock's filing for a bitcoin fund. The SEC has rejected dozens of prior applications to create a spot bitcoin ETF, and SEC Chair Gary Gensler appeared to be leading a crackdown against the crypto industry earlier this year.

After three years of haphazard plans for getting workers back at their desks, the return-to-office movement has entered a phase of remorse. Envoy interviewed more than 1,000 U.S. company executives and workplace managers who work in-person at least one day per week. Kathy Kacher, a consultant who advises corporate executives on their return-to-office plans, is surprised the percentage isn't higher. "A lot of executives have egg on their faces and they're sad about that." REUTERS/Andrew KellyAug 11 (Reuters) - The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has delayed a decision on whether to approve Cathie Wood-led Ark Investment Management's (ARK) spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), a filing by the regulator showed on Friday. The SEC is seeking public comment on the Ark 21Shares Bitcoin ETF application, and has pushed back the decision date by several weeks to potentially months. In June, BlackRock (BLK.N), the world's biggest asset manager, also filed for a bitcoin ETF, a move that many viewed as a gamechanger for the industry. In 2021, Wood's ARK and crypto investment firm 21Shares US LLC had first teamed up to file an application for a spot bitcoin ETF with the regulator.

The U.S. government is deploying trillions of dollars of stimulus money into infrastructure investments, boosting the prospects for a number of industrials in the Club portfolio. Club names Honeywell (HON) and Emerson Electric (EMR) might also grab some of the IRA's funding for green energy. Gains were linked to a boost in demand for construction equipment because of the "once in a generation" Infrastructure bill. The market has its mind made up: July's tame inflation reading means no more interest rate hikes from the Federal Reserve. The "patience" reference goes to whether policymakers will be satisfied that inflation will come back to normal without any further rate increases, or if additional tightening is necessary. Following Thursday's release of the consumer price index , which showed a 12-month inflation rate of 3.2%, markets upped their bets that the Fed is staying put. The chance of any additional rate increases also declined, dropping to 27.3% for November and 24.1% for December, as of about 1:30 p.m. Thus, there was some caution from the CPI internals, and a stock market rally cooled Thursday afternoon as Wall Street digested the report.

watch nowThe consumer price index rose 3.2% from a year ago in July, a sign that inflation has lost at least some of its grip on the U.S. economy. Prices accelerated a seasonally adjusted 0.2% for the month, in line with the Dow Jones estimate, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday. The annual rate for the core also was slightly below a Dow Jones consensus estimate for 4.8%. Markets reacted positively to the report, with futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average up more than 200 points and Treasury yields mostly lower. Almost all of the monthly inflation increase came from shelter costs, which rose 0.4% and were up 7.7% from a year ago.

Morgan Stanley has decided to take a break, downgrading MSCI China to equal weight while recommending a few consumer and industrial names. The Politburo meeting signaled policy easing, but outstanding issues — of debt, property, jobs and geopolitics — need significant improvement for sustainable inflows, the Morgan Stanley analysts said. Morgan Stanley has so far only changed it once this year: a cut in July to 5%. And despite their downgrade of Chinese stocks, the analysts added two mainland-traded A shares to their focus list. In its latest report, Morgan Stanley analysts also turned overweight on India.

Tupperware is still an extremely troubled brand, and the stock is still trading below $6 a share. Tupperware has been considering layoffs and property sales to stay afloat. Once sold exclusively by multi-level marketers, similar to Avon and Amway, Tupperware parties were a staple of a bygone era.

Forthcoming restrictions should cover US participation in Chinese public markets, he said. "If American capital continues to flow to Chinese military companies, we are at risk of funding our own destruction." A "sizable portion" of that money goes directly to tech companies with ties to China's military and the Chinese Communist Party, he added.
