First off, driving instead of flying saved us a lot of moneyMy family added a road-trip component to our trip. Daryl AustinWe saved money by driving to Disney instead of flying. AdvertisementLastly, we saved money by cutting back on character-dining experiences and sharing most of our mealsOur family split meals at Disneyland when we could. In hindsight, this means we could've saved some serious money on tickets and food costs by cutting out our last two days at Disney. Otherwise, my wife and I will be dreading the next Disney vacation nearly as much as our kids will be eagerly anticipating it.

They’re also plumbed by blood vessels, which lead all the way from the heart. By the time blood vessels reach these extremities, like twigs from a tree, they have branched and got much smaller in size. This rare condition is sometimes called “trash foot,” because of the way in which the feet become so discolored. In adults, however, finding the Babinski sign is an altogether different story. Skydance Media and its largest private-equity backer RedBird Capital Partners have been wooing Paramount for the better part of a year. The Skydance consortium, including fellow Skydance investor KKR, submitted a revised offer on Sunday. The deal would be worth roughly $32 billion, according to the source, with the value of Paramount and its $15 billion in debt making up the lion's share. Here's what we know about the deal, how much Redstone would get, and what a new Paramount would look like. Keeping Paramount public sets the Skydance bid apart from Apollo's potential offer, according to one of the sources.

While Red Lobster increased traffic somewhat, people coming in to chow down on all-you-can-eat shrimp was a money bleeder. But the story about what's gone wrong with Red Lobster is much more complicated than a bunch of stoners pigging out on shrimp (and, later, lobster) en masse. Red Lobster first opened in Lakeland, Florida, in 1968 and was acquired by the food conglomerate General Mills in 1970. "What's truly happened with Red Lobster is that the consumer base has changed and Red Lobster hasn't," he said. "Red Lobster isn't losing to a competitor in their space — they're losing to competitors outside their space."

But a majority of Supreme Court justices appear ready to hand the former president an immediate victory. Still, the Supreme Court justices do not appear likely to dismiss the former president's claims quickly, raising the likelihood that Trump may not face trial for trying to overturn the 2020 election before November. He drew his arguments from an earlier Supreme Court case that mapped the line for presidential immunity in civil matters. The Supreme Court weighs Trump's immunity claim. It is possible that the Supreme Court could rule that a more detailed review of Trump's conduct is best left to a lower court.

She had never purchased a home, and as a lawyer, I just assumed I knew how the system worked: The buyer has an agent, but the seller pays a commission (typically 6% of the sale price) that's split between their agent and the buyer's agent. So my agent wasn't going to find me my dream house, and the work of hunting was basically on me. But the real-estate industry has made it hard for many buyers to understand just how little having an agent can help. The class-action settlement with the NAR is going to make it a lot harder for sellers to be forced to pay for buyers' agents. Going forward, for people like me without an agent, a savvy seller may pay just 3% of the sales price to their own agent instead of 6% to be split with a buyer's agent.

Trump's lawyers defended his $175M civil fraud bond — and Knight Specialty — in court filings. AdvertisementLawyers for Donald Trump are defending the "respected" insurers behind his $175 million civil fraud bond in a series of new court filings. Trump's bond was underwritten by Knight Specialty Insurance Company, based in Los Angeles, run by billionaire Trump supporter Don Hankey, a so-called king of subprime car loans. "KSIC is a respected, well-capitalized, Delaware-domiciled insurer that has long underwritten surety bonds and other types of insurance placed around the country," Trump's lawyers wrote. Beyond that, the insurer "has access to more than $2 billion in assets and $1 billion in equity" through its parent company, Knight Insurance Company," the filings say.

Cleveland Federal Reserve President Loretta Mester said Tuesday she still expects interest rate cuts this year, but ruled out the next policy meeting in May. Should that continue, rate cuts are likely, though she didn't offer any guidance on timing or extent. While looking for rate cuts, Mester said she thinks the long-run federal funds rate will be higher than the long-standing expectation of 2.5%. After the March meeting, the long-rate rate projection moved up to 2.6%, indicating there are other members leaning higher. Mester noted the rate was very low when the Covid pandemic hit and gave the Fed little wiggle room to boost the economy.

Trailing stop losses Investors who rode tech's ascent — consider that Nvidia is up more than 80% in 2024 — may be reluctant to part with those positions. However, trailing stop losses may permit them to hold on to those stocks and still protect against sharp declines. Put options give investors the right to sell a stock at a specified — or "strike" — price before an expiration date. However, you can also pair this strategy with a covered call, which may boost your income and offset losses. "Covered call options can be employed to generate income on existing stock holdings while potentially limiting upside potential," Lawrence said.

But Japan's economy — the long-unconscious patient — recently started to wiggle its toe. The country's stock market is ripping; the Nikkei recently exceeded the all-time highs it set 34 years ago. Now, Koo says, Chinese academics and policymakers are flocking to Japan to glean some kind of wisdom from the country's experience. Advertisement"This has made Japan attractive for foreign investors, and the stock market has done well," Koo said. Even without a currency war with Beijing, the world is building defenses against another wave of Chinese goods.

[About 70% of investors now think a rate cut will occur in June, according to the CME FedWatch tool.] Goldman Sachs is currently predicting a 15% chance of recession over the next 12 months, down from 35% last year. Seeing that happen made us more confident that the Fed wouldn’t be forced to cause a recession in order to get inflation down. The reason we say 15% risk is because that is roughly the historical unconditional average. So a 15% recession rate is baseline for you, it will never go below that number?

Read previewThe BRRRR method — that's buy, rehab, rent, refinance, and repeat — has been Adam Craig's bread-and-butter strategy for real-estate investing over the last decade. From $42,500 to $148,000In 2020, Craig purchased a property on the outskirts of Cleveland, Ohio for $42,500, according to a settlement statement. By this point in his investing journey, Craig had excess cash flow coming in from many other properties, which could cover his costs. This also puts first-time investors more at risk, given that they may run into unforeseen repair costs, Craig told Business Insider. "In general, if you're getting a property that's way below market that's a BRRRR property, the risks should be less because you have a lot more wiggle room," he said.

New York CNN —Wall Street was taken aback by the US labor market’s resilience in January. Another unexpectedly hot report could shake things up again. The January jobs report showed that the US economy added a stunning 353,000 jobs that month and the unemployment rate stayed at 3.7%. The new EU regulations force sweeping changes on some of the world’s most widely used tech products, including Apple’s app store, Google search and messaging platforms, including Meta’s WhatsApp. The broad obligations apply only to the EU, which could leave tech users in the United States and other markets looking longingly at some of the features Big Tech is rolling out in response to the European directive.

Israel has long restricted access to the compound, which is sacred to Muslims and Jews alike, during Ramadan for Palestinians from the Israeli-occupied West Bank. This year, Itamar Ben-Gvir, the far-right national security minister, called on the government to impose limits on Arab citizens of Israel as well. The decision on Tuesday put an end to the plan promoted by Mr. Ben-Gvir, but it allowed some wiggle room. “I congratulate the Prime Minister for the responsible decision to allow Muslim worshipers at Al Aqsa Mosque freedom of worship,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Hamas celebrations on the Temple Mount ≠ complete victory,” he wrote on X, using the name used by Jews to refer to Al Aqsa.

Hess Corp shares fell Tuesday after Chevron warned investors that a dispute with Exxon Mobil and China's National Offshore Oil Corp. (Cnooc) over Guyana's offshore oil assets could jeopardize its bid to acquire the company. Chevron said Exxon and Cnooc's claims could delay or completely derail its acquisition of Hess. Chevron said in the filing that it does not believe the joint operating agreement applies to its acquisition of Hess. Neal Dingmann, an analyst at Truist, told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Tuesday that it is unlikely Exxon and Cnooc will scoop up Hess' Guyana assets. The dispute with Exxon and Cnooc is the latest hurdle that Chevron's bid to acquire Hess faces.

The study examined the retirement savings habits of more than 50,000 participants between 2017 and 2019 to see how student loan payments affected their contributions. While a higher salary does correlate with higher 401(k) balances and contribution rates overall, it doesn't close the gap between those making student loan payments and those who aren't making such payments. For employees earning less than $55,000 a year, those without student loan payments had balances about 4.5% higher on average than those with student loan payments, regardless of tenure. Lower earners were also less likely to reduce their contributions when they started making student loan payments. "[It's] less disposable income that [borrowers] have, so it's likely a fear reaction," Sam Silberstein, a certified financial planner and certified student loan professional with Student Loan Planner, tells CNBC Make It.

Yet Jerome Powell and his central bank colleagues have rebuffed those forecasts, and markets have pushed their rate cut predictions further into 2024. And the producer price index for January came in at 0.3% on Friday, higher than the expected 0.1% increase. Jimmy Chang, the chief investment officer for Rockefeller Global Family Office, told Business Insider that it would be difficult for the Fed to cut rates in the current landscape. AdvertisementThe Fed's next moveThe case for keeping rates unchanged has gained momentum over recent weeks, but both markets and the Fed ultimately expect easing interest rates in 2024. Bank of America forecasts that the first cut likely won't happen until June, and policymakers could opt to cut rates "later and faster."
