Many Nvidia employees have become incredibly rich after the company's stock is up by about 1,200% over the past five years. Nvidia employees are also rarely put on performance-improvement plans, unlike some of its competitors, such as Amazon . Despite a growing number of companies launching their own in-house chips, Nvidia employees say they don't feel the competitive pressure yet. Three Nvidia employees, however, told BI that those chips never came up in customer conversations because, in their view, of Nvidia's superior performance. In other ways, Nvidia employees haven't let their riches go to their heads.

Consumers grew somewhat more optimistic about the future of the economy in November as expectations about inflation improved, but their sense of the current state of affairs worsened a bit. Still, two-thirds of consumers surveyed still expect a recession to be “somewhat” or “very likely” within the next 12 months. However, that is well above current inflation of 3.2% and forecasts from the Federal Reserve and mainstream economists. In the peak hour from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. EST, consumers spent $15.7 million a minute, according to online analytics firm Adobe. One thing that might make some consumers happy is that home prices continued to increase in September.

“I have been consistently surprised at the resilience of consumer spending,” Christopher Waller, an influential member of the Fed’s board, said in a speech this month. “The acceleration of consumer spending on experiences (has) propelled us towards another outstanding quarter,” said CEO Jason Liberty. Wealthier households, in particular, have enjoyed substantial growth in home values and stock portfolios, which are likely juicing their spending. Spending on the bank's credit and debit cards by households with incomes below $50,000 has risen faster than spending by higher-earning clients. “Consumer spending across all segments from high to low has remained stable since March."

Gross domestic product, a measure of all goods and services produced in the economy, grew at an annualized 4.9% rate in the third quarter, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. Robust consumer spending fueled growth in the third quarter, a sign of the economy’s surprising resilience in the face of tougher borrowing costs and persistently high inflation. Spending grew from July through September by an annualized rate of 4%, its strongest pace since the fourth quarter of 2021. Residential fixed investment, which reflects conditions in the housing market, advanced at a 3.9% annualized rate in the third quarter, Thursday’s GDP report showed. That’s down from a peak of 5.6% in early 2022, but well above the Fed’s inflation goal.

Microsoft could act as a defensive stock if the U.S. enters a mild recession next year, according to UBS analyst Karl Keirstead. Interest rates While higher interest rates pressure valuations across the tech sector, the UBS analyst expects Microsoft to benefit disproportionately if rates decline in 2024. The company's strong free cash flow generation also makes its stock less rate-sensitive than some of its tech peers, according to Keirstead. "The tech sector tends to be reasonably rate sensitive, and so in a declining rate environment, the tech sector will be one that a lot of investors will gravitate to," he said. "I think that notion of inverse sensitivity to rates is more powerful than the impact of rates on Microsoft's cash balance."

WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump is crushing his Republican presidential rivals in the contest to raise campaign cash, putting the other White House hopefuls in an unenviable position before the first votes are cast in January. The amount of cash a candidate has in reserve offers a window into the health of their campaign. But the stark disparity between Trump, whose presidential campaign had $37.5 million at the end of September, and the balances held by his rivals like former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, Florida Gov. Pence entered October running on fumes with $1.1 million cash on hand and debts of $621,000. The rate at which he has burned through cash is not sustainable absent a large infusion of cash.

BENGALURU, Oct 11 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Global CEOs are under pressure from investors to adopt generative artificial intelligence into their businesses. Outsourcers like $200 billion Accenture are sounding the alarm. Accenture sold $300 million in generative AI deals in the year to August, less than 1% of its $72 billion in total new bookings. Blackstone-backed Mphasis, a smaller firm, says one-third of its total contract value of $707 million for the quarter to the end of June was from “pure AI deals”. The full spectrum of how businesses can use generative AI is still emerging but there are obvious applications: customer support agents and coders are seeing productivity increases of 14% and 55% respectively.

On her first day of testimony, Ellison said Tuesday that she and Bankman-Fried, along with other associates, committed fraud and money laundering, and that he “set up the systems that allowed Alameda” to siphon money from FTX customer accounts. Prosecutors accuse Bankman-Fried, 31, of orchestrating a scheme to steal billions of dollars from customer accounts in FTX, his now-bankrupt crypto trading platform. If she were given a maximum sentence on the seven counts, she could face more than 100 years in prison. Her testimony is considered crucial to prosecutors’ case that SBF used both FTX and Alameda as his own personal piggy bank. If found guilty of all seven criminal counts and given the maximum sentence, Bankman-Fried faces the prospect of 110 years in prison.
