CNN —Americans are staying unemployed for longer, the latest Labor Department data shows, in a reflection of a slowing economy. The number of Americans receiving jobless benefits for multiple weeks climbed to its highest level since November 2021, according to a Department of Labor report released Thursday. While the number of initial claims remains near pre-pandemic levels (but well below historical averages), they’ve moved higher in recent weeks. Weekly jobless claims data, which is looked at as a proxy for layoff activity, can be highly volatile and is frequently revised. Still, the trend as of late has been an upward one, economist Ian Shepherdson wrote in a note to clients Thursday.

Experts say hackers are getting more sophisticated and can hide in an organization’s systems for longer undetected. Coming into and through 2019, the economy was strong and the Consumer Price Index, a key measure of inflation, was low. For some, that seemed like a bad thing — economists worried that chronically low inflation could increase the risk of future economic stagnation. The Personal Consumption Expenditures index, a slightly delayed price measure that the Fed uses for its 2 percent inflation target, similarly fell. Within a few months, inflation began to pick up. Price jumps began to moderate even in service categories, which made economists hope that the deceleration might be the real deal.

Fundamentally speaking copper is an industrial metal heavily needed in China and India for infrastructure, transportation, and the green energy buildout. 'Bull flag' pattern The way I'm expressing this bullish thesis in copper is through my holdings in Southern Copper Corp (SCCO) in the dividend portfolio at Inside Edge Capital. That's not exactly cheap, but with the forecasted global demand of copper we think that multiple is justified.

The Walt Disney Company on Friday revealed its new theatrical schedule, which will feature a film about the Mandalorian and Grogu, a fifth "Toy Story" film, and another "Tron" flick before the end of 2026.
