The third day of the Republican National Convention is focusing on foreign policy and military issues, and is featuring the first speech by Sen. JD Vance of Ohio as the running mate of former President Donald Trump. Trump, who survived an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania over the weekend, has long expected to face President Joe Biden in November's election. Biden has adamantly refused to drop out of the contest since his disastrous debate against Trump in late June. As the convention was getting underway in Milwaukee Wednesday, the White House announced that Biden tested positive for Covid. “Anyone who thinks this is over is mistaken,” said one House Democrat about the ongoing conversations happening behind the scenes. The delay stopped a draft letter circulating among House Democrats that, if made formal, would have exposed further cracks in the party. ABC News’ Jonathan Karl reported earlier Wednesday that Schumer told Biden on Saturday that it would be best if Biden bowed out of the presidential race. At one point, Biden told Crow, “I don’t want to hear that crap” in addressing the lawmaker’s concerns. The assassination attempt against Mr. Trump last weekend diverted attention from the Democratic discord but did not solve the problem. In fact, as of nearly five years after the July 2019 call, there is no known US recording of the conversation. He claimed that Schiff never would have made his comments if he had known Trump would release the rough transcript. But that Trump claim never made any sense, either — because, in reality, he released the rough transcript before Schiff gave his exaggerated rendition of it at a congressional hearing.
