Some states offer their own tax incentives, and utilities may offer rebates for installing solar. In some cases, rebates may affect the size of the federal credit, so consult a tax professional for help calculating your potential benefit, Ms. Walker said. Some solar contractors also do roofs or work closely with roofing companies, so you may be able to economize by having them done at the same time, she said. Some solar contractors offer the option to lease the system rather than buy it, but in that case you won’t own it — so you don’t qualify for the tax credit, Ms. Walker said. Like any home-improvement project, solar installations may attract disreputable contractors, said Melanie McGovern, a spokeswoman for the International Association of Better Business Bureaus.

A superseding indictment is a criminal complaint brought by a grand jury that changes, adds to, or replaces an original indictment in the wake of new evidence. The superseding indictment brought in the documents case this week also added a third defendant, maintenance worker Carlos De Oliveira, to the case, as well as additional charges against Trump aide Walt Nauta, who pleaded not guilty to the counts against him earlier this month. He faces 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in New York in addition to the classified documents case.

Akio Kon | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesJapan's Nikkei 225 can reach 40,000 points in the next 12 months as fundamentals are "pointing in the right direction," according to market strategist Jesper Koll. Should the prediction come true, this would mean that the Nikkei would have breached its all-time high of 38,195 achieved on Dec 29, 1989. Japan's central bank has maintained an ultra-loose monetary policy for more than 20 years. He said that while there is more upside in the Nikkei, "a lot of good news is already priced in." That's on the expectation that the BOJ will move to tighten monetary policy.

A member of the public walks through heavy rain near the Bank of England in May 2023. LONDON — The Bank of England is "caught between a rock and a hard place" as it prepares for a key monetary policy decision against a backdrop of sticky inflation and a tight labor market, economists say. May's consumer price index figure will be published Wednesday morning, the day before the Bank's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) announces its next move on interest rates. Data points since the last meeting have indicated persistent tightness in the labor market and strong underlying inflationary pressures, alongside mixed but surprisingly resilient growth momentum. Economists therefore now expect the Bank to prolong its tightening cycle and lift interest rates to a higher level than previously anticipated.

And given they had advance knowledge of next week's quarterly loan survey before Wednesday's rate decision, it suggests the bigger picture they see remains somewhat equivocal. The rise of streaming services changed the way audiences consume both television shows and movies, and studios adjusted their business models in an attempt to respond. But they’re unlikely to get meaningful residuals, if any at all, when they create original content for streaming services as contracts stand today. With streaming services poised to become the future of television entertainment, the Guild was fighting in these negotiations for some kind of ongoing compensation from streaming services. The hunger for content by those streaming service also means that it might not take as long for the strike to start to impact production schedules. Streaming services also have a massive stockpile of older content that could keep their customers satisfied, at least temporarily, while they await new shows.

The 2-year Treasury yield has been swinging sharply and "acting like a meme stock," a top strategist at John Hancock said on Tuesday. The inverted yield curve is telling the Fed it's making a mistake by not cutting interest rates, said strategist Emily Roland. "When the two-year Treasury yield is acting like a meme stock there's a lot of uncertainty here around Fed policy," she added. But the 2-year yield — moving around 4% on Tuesday — has been on a roller coaster since early March. The 2-year yield at 4% was higher than the 10-year yield at 3.43% on Tuesday, creating an inverted yield curve widely seen as signaling an oncoming recession.

But buyers won't have many homes to pick from, which can lead to competition that keeps prices high. Owners are reluctant to sell because they would have to give up locked-in low mortgage rates. Considering growing expectations that the Federal Reserve will stop, or even reverse, its benchmark rate hikes this year, mortgage rates may fall further in the weeks to come. Owners happy with their homes and low, locked-in mortgage rates, aren't moving much. More competition, or demand, for a smaller number of homes, or supply, usually keeps prices high.

Wholesale prices posted an unexpected decline in February, providing some encouraging news on inflation as the Federal Reserve weighs its next move on interest rates. On a 12-month basis, the index increased 4.6%, well below the downwardly revised 5.7% level from the previous month. Hiring edged lower as did the prices index. The news comes a day after the Labor Department said consumer prices rose another 0.4% in February, bringing the annual inflation rate to 6%.
