The researchers tested Binoculars on large sets of data compiled of news writing, creative writing, and student essays. As generative AI tools like ChatGPT explode in popularity, concerns have grown about students using AI to complete academic work while passing it off as their own. At the same time, many students have been wrongly accused of using AI, based on results of AI detection tools. Last year, schools and universities began disabling such AI detection tools. The researchers claimed Binoculars' method corrects for the role a person prompting an AI tool plays in the output, which has been pointed to as a cause for false positives in AI detection tools.

Here are five takeaways from the New Hampshire primaries:Trump wants Haley out — nowIn what were expected to be celebratory remarks Tuesday night in New Hampshire, Trump instead sounded annoyed that Haley had not yet dropped out of the Republican primary race. There are dozens of states left to go,” Haley told supporters in her election night speech Tuesday in New Hampshire. Haley waves to the audience as she speaks at a New Hampshire primary night rally, in Concord, New Hampshire, on Tuesday. Restaurant Brands International is buying Carrols Restaurant Group , the largest Burger King franchisee in the U.S., for about $1 billion in cash. Restaurant Brands will pay $9.55 per share to acquire Carrols, which operates more than 1,000 Burger King restaurants and 60 Popeyes locations. Burger King sales had been lagging behind the competition, and Wendy's overtook it as the second-largest burger chain by U.S. sales. Restaurant Brands plans to remodel 600 of Carrols' Burger King locations rapidly over the next five years and then sell them back to franchisees, Tom Curtis, president of Burger King U.S. and Canada, said. The ousted leader of ChatGPT-maker OpenAI is returning to the company that fired him late last week, the latest in a saga that has shocked the artificial intelligence industry. San Francisco-based OpenAI said in a statement late Tuesday: “We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam Altman to return to OpenAI as CEO with a new initial board" made of former Salesforce co-CEO Bret Taylor, former U.S. Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo. That emboldened a threatened exodus of nearly all of the startup's 770 employees who signed a letter calling for the board's resignation and Altman's return. “We are encouraged by the changes to the OpenAI board,” Nadella posted on X late Tuesday. How many 16-inch pizzas should I order for 778 people,” the person asks, using the number of people who work at OpenAI.

Microsoft had no official say with the board when Altman, the company’s key contact, was fired. That is partly as a hedge for the fact it has no control over the start-up’s board. It involves the holy grail of OpenAI’s work: achieving artificial general intelligence, or A.G.I. Scott Syphax, a corporate governance expert, told DealBook that the deal could raise red flags with regulators if it threatens the nonprofit’s tax-exempt status. Another area Syphax is watching: the valuation that Microsoft placed on OpenAI after its investment and whether it acquired the I.P.

Actively managed exchange-traded funds are having their time in the limelight as ETF managers seek new strategies beyond passive funds. "But with active management, you can differentiate assuming the active manager is actually doing something meaningfully different than the underlying benchmark," he added. While active ETFs have been around since 2008, the popularity took off in 2019 after the SEC eased launch restrictions. So far this year, the number of active ETFs that have launched have already overtaken passive ETFs by a ratio of three to one, according to Morningstar. While it's the firm's first active ETF, GMO has run a traditional actively managed mutual fund called the GMO Quality Fund (GQETX) since 2004.

It joins a growing body of research examining AI within legal education and attorney licensure. Another more recent study found that GPT-4 can pass the bar exam. A spokesperson for the National Conference of Bar Examiners, which develops the MPRE, said that it could not assess the LegalOn report's claims that GPT-4 can pass its ethics test. Shares of the company touched an all-time high Wednesday dating to when Walmart debuted on the New York Stock Exchange in August 1972. Target's performance also lifted Walmart's stock Wednesday and could bode well for Walmart's quarter. Target's sales declined year over year, but it topped Wall Street's expectations for earnings and revenue. NEW YORK, Nov 6 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Elon Musk does well when his back is against the wall. His investment in X now fills the longshot role, which leaves him little to lose. Grok, as it is called, has “real-time access to info via the X platform,” Musk noted in a post, which gives it a “massive advantage” over other AI models. Although the product is still being tested, Musk says it already can out-compute OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 and Meta Platforms' (META.O) Llama 2. The big-box retailer's stock hit a peak of $166.30 earlier in the day. That marks the highest since Walmart first began trading on the New York Stock Exchange in August 1972. Shares of Walmart touched an all-time high Friday, as investors bet that the discounter will outmatch retail rivals and draw shoppers throughout the holiday season because of its reputation for value. That business has helped Walmart draw foot traffic, even as other retailers like Macy's and Target give cautious outlooks and see weaker results. "It really shows that the value proposition for Walmart is much more than just low prices or value.

At the same time, DuPont raised concerns about its water and safety solutions business due to ongoing destocking and a weaker China. Guidance DuPont shaved its full-year net sales outlook to about $12.17 billion, from a previous range of $12.45 billion to $12.55 billion. Donald Tusk, leader of the largest opposition grouping Civic Coalition (KO), speaks after the exit poll results are announced in Warsaw, Poland, October 15, 2023. The incumbent Law and Justice (PiS) party has repeatedly clashed with the European Union over the rule of law, media freedom, migration and LGBT rights since it swept to power in 2015. An Ipsos exit poll published early on Monday gave PiS 36.6% of the vote, which would translate into 198 lawmakers in the 460-seat lower house of parliament.
