If you refer to “Maestro” as a biopic, expect a sternly worded email from the movie’s reps. It’s also true that “Maestro” doesn’t play by traditional biopic rules. What’s up with that fake nose? But when the film flashes back to Bernstein as a young man, the prosthetic proves intermittently distracting. It’s both too much and not enough: Unlike the fake nose in “The Hours,” which really did render Nicole Kidman unrecognizable, young Bernstein just looks like Bradley Cooper wearing a big beak.

CNN —A Bronze Age arrowhead unearthed in Switzerland was made from a meteor, a new study has found. The nearly 3,000-year-old artifact was created with iron from a meteorite that landed in Estonia, the study noted. This indicates that meteoritic iron was traded in Europe by 800 BC or earlier, the researchers said, adding how unusual it is to find meteoritic iron used so early in history. “Such evidence of an early use of meteoritic iron is extremely rare,” according to a news release on the discovery. Meteorite originsExperts previously thought the iron used in the arrowhead came from the Twannberg meteorite, which fell to Earth just a few kilometers from the pile-dwelling.

Even when fear seems entirely justified, its expression can be hard to understand, inspired by so many variables. A poll conducted by The New York Times in January 1985, a few weeks after the Goetz shootings, found that half the city’s residents believed that crime was the worst thing about living in New York. A majority expressed support for what Mr. Goetz had done. In the days after the shootings, while Mr. Goetz was at large and the tabloids pumped out day after day of panic-feeding content, the “subway vigilante” emerged as a folk hero to New Yorkers. Some offered to cover his $500,000 bail (he refused); others suggested that he run for mayor.

While Meta's 12% rise in second-quarter ad revenue surpassed the 3% growth at Alphabet's Google, earnings reports from both the digital ad behemoths reinforced a recovery in the sector. Smaller rival Snap (SNAP.N), however, disappointed on ad sales as advertisers stick to tried and true platforms. CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Reels now has an annual revenue run rate exceeding $10 billion, up from $3 billion last fall. Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said on June 9 he had secured a pledge from 75 food companies to cut prices. French shoppers have paid more than 20% more for Nestle products each month since January versus last year, the data showed, and price increases peaked at 36.6% in May. Nestle, whose brands include Maggi stock cubes and Kit Kat chocolate bars, declined to comment. Similarly, stores sold products made by Activia yogurt owner Danone for between 11.2% and 16.7% more than last year in the first six months of the year. The NielsenIQ data shows the final prices retailers charge shoppers, and does not necessarily only reflect the prices food companies ask for from stores.

Last week, for instance, Nigeria's central bank allowed the naira currency to drop as much as 36% on the official market. Nestle, which is replacing imported corn starch in Nigeria with cassava starch, told Reuters it has helped seven local suppliers to boost capacity to meet the company's supply needs. ONION POWDER AND TURMERICNestle said it was working to develop local suppliers of vegetables and spices used in Maggi products, for instance onion powder in Nigeria and Senegal, and turmeric powder in Nigeria. Nestle did not comment on whether its position in Nigeria would help insulate it from foreign exchange volatility, neither did it give an indication of the economic impact of the local sourcing. The average pawn shop loan in the US is about $150, according to the National Pawnbrokers Association. Due to the nature of pawn loans, it's common for borrowers to roll over their pawn shop loan or take out a new one. For example, Castle Jewelry and Pawn of Richmond, Kentucky states that they charge 20% interest on their pawn shop loans. In a situation where you require immediate cash but don't fit the qualifications for a traditional short-term loan, a pawn shop loan might be appropriate. If the S&P 500 can avoid a pullback, it could make a push toward its all-time high. Investors who weren't ready for the remarkable stock market rally of the last three months may not have completely missed out yet, according to several strategists Insider recently spoke with. While some top investing minds think this market rally isn't trustworthy, others are confident that the path of least resistance for US stocks is higher. He believes the S&P 500 is more likely to hit new highs in early 2024 than retest its Fall low of about 3,500. The S&P 500 is trading at roughly 19.2x forward earnings, he said, adding that equal-weighted funds have a forward earning ratio of about 15.5x.

June 16 (Reuters) - Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE) will face investors hungry for answers at its capital markets day next Wednesday on how it will achieve high cost-cutting targets and whether it will heed their calls for an independent audit of its co-owned Xinjiang plant. "The 21 June CMD is an opportunity to reset a fraught relationship with investors, a challenging exercise," Jefferies wrote in a note on Friday. Investors also demanded that Volkswagen conduct an independent audit of the Urumqi plant, which executives have is only possible with the agreement of joint venture partner SAIC (600104.SS). Alongside targets, investors needed details on how the carmaker expects to make its EV production more cost-effective, Daniel Roeska of Bernstein Research wrote in a note on Thursday. "The risk is that instead we see more punchy earnings and volume targets, with little to support them," he added.

In 2021 almost 140 countries including Switzerland agreed to an Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) deal to ensure large companies pay a minimum tax rate of 15%, to prevent them trying to avoid taxation by transferring profits to low tax countries. Reuters GraphicsEach of Switzerland's 26 cantons can set its own corporate tax rate, but the federal government would impose a top-up tax to ensure companies are paying 15 percent, raising up to 2.5 billion Swiss francs ($2.76 billion) in tax revenue. She said last month, "this minimum tax is coming, with or without Switzerland." Swiss Holdings, a group representing 62 multinationals in Switzerland including Nestle, Johnson & Johnson, and IKEA, supported the minimum tax. Stefan Kuhn, Head of Tax and Legal at KPMG Switzerland, said the top-up tax "gives cantons the money to do something smart to remain competitive."

Discussions on the Olympics deal, being negotiated by Antoine, revolve around promotions focused on LVMH as a group, its two biggest fashion labels - the Louis Vuitton and Dior brands - as well as champagne. However, the behind-the-scenes role of the oldest of Arnault’s four sons, Antoine, hasn't been widely known. Although Antoine Arnault's work shepherding LVMH's sponsorship of the Olympic Games is taking place behind closed doors, the outcome would be highly public. Steve Martin, global CEO of M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment, said that while LVMH is already associated with France, a formal sponsorship of the Olympics would help to further differentiate LVMH from luxury rivals. “If we get involved it would be to help out,” LVMH fashion group CEO Sidney Toledano told Reuters.

There are really no good choices for who should succeed Logan Roy in "Succession." She also fakes authenticity — a power move, one expert told Insider. The show revolves around the deeply dysfunctional Roy family and the jockeying to succeed Logan Roy, the recently deceased patriarch played by Brian Cox, as head of the family media empire, Waystar Royco, loosely based on Fox News and News Corp. "Shiv seems to be a person who gets relationships," Gino told Insider. The media baron and inspiration for Logan Roy, Rupert Murdoch, the head of News Corp, also has stirred speculation over which of his children might succeed him at the top of the home of Fox News.

But there's a similar legacy battle going on inside LVMH, the French luxury house run by Bernard Arnault. The children of the world's richest man are vying for influence within LVMH in a "Darwinian" fight. Showrunner Jesse Armstrong says his fictional Roy family is inspired by several famous dynasties, such as the Hearsts — the family behind Hearst Communications — and the Redstones — the controlling influence behind Paramount Global. There's still plenty of rivalry between the progeny of Bernard Arnault, CEO of luxury goods behemoth LVMH and world's richest person. The Roy family of "Succession."
