CNN —A panel of three Donald Trump-appointed judges said Friday that Mississippi was violating federal law by counting mail ballots that arrive after Election Day, but stopped short of blocking the policy before the election, in a ruling that could nevertheless impact voting-related lawsuits this fall. The ruling from the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals is a victory for the Republican National Committee and others who brought the case in Mississippi, a non-battleground state with very little mail-in voting, seeking a ruling by a far-right circuit court friendly to their arguments. “Voters deserve nothing less than a fair and transparent election which ends on November 5th. “Congress statutorily designated a singular ‘day for the election’ of members of Congress and the appointment of presidential electors,” the 5th Circuit panel said. “That is not to say all the ballots must be counted on Election Day,” the opinion states.

Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood mogul whose alleged sexual misconduct fueled the #MeToo movement and who was recently indicted on new charges, has chronic myeloid leukemia, two sources told NBC News. The sources added that Weinstein is undergoing treatment in prison at Rikers Island in New York. Chronic myeloid leukemia is an uncommon form of cancer of the bone marrow, according to the Mayo Clinic. In a statement to NBC News on Monday night, Weinstein's legal health care representative Craig Rothfeld said in part, "Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein's privacy, we will offer no further comment." Weinstein's health issues come amid his legal battle with Manhattan prosecutors over their efforts to combine his original 2020 sexual crimes with a new criminal indictment.

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the Biden administration at least in the short term to enforce its latest attempt to curb climate-harming carbon emissions from coal- and gas-fired power plants that contribute to climate change. Harvey Weinstein’s attorneys have submitted a filing opposing a move by prosecutors to combine two sexual crimes cases against the disgraced film mogul. In US v Epstein, US v Maxwell, and US v Raniere, "the detention orders were supported by detailed factual findings and explicit weighing of the 3142(g) factors," the appeal read. Prosecutors will reply to Combs' appeal before a decision is made.

Kalshi wagers on the presidential race outcomes were split 50-50, roughly reflecting national polling on the contest. The new contracts were added to Kalshi's platform within days of a favorable federal appeals court ruling for the company on Oct 2. Even more political races could soon become available for betting with Kalshi contracts, the CFTC said, citing contract terms published on the exchange's web site. But the commission argues that Kalshi's contracts might cast doubt on the integrity of elections. The appeals court initially blocked that judge's ruling from taking effect, which meant Kalshi could not offer any political contracts.
