Janet Boudreau, who owned the election supply business Intab, designed an "I Voted" sticker in 1987. In recent years, some states have held "I Voted" sticker design contests with unusual winners. One of the earliest mentions of "I Voted" stickers dates back to a 1982 Miami Herald article about discounts offered to customers wearing the stickers, Time magazine reported. Even so, stickers were rarely given out on Election Day until 1987, when Boudreau took over Intab, her father's election supply business then based in Seattle. "I Voted" stickers.

A Pennsylvania judge on Monday declined an effort by the Philadelphia district attorney to stop Elon Musk’s America PAC from doling out cash prizes to registered voters. The judge's injunction means Musk's PAC will be able to do one last giveaway on Tuesday, the last day of the offer. The America PAC giveaway has promised million-dollar checks to some voters and $47 and $100 payments to other registered voters who signed a political pledge in swing states. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner sued Musk and America PAC last month, alleging that the giveaways were an illegal, unregulated lottery, but at a hearing Monday, America PAC attorney Chris Gober said it wasn’t a lottery because winners aren’t determined by chance. Musk’s legal team delayed this hearing last week, filing to move the case to federal court.

CNN —The deep mistrust between conservatives and Republican election officials in Georgia is hampering efforts to slow the tide of election misinformation swirling in this pivotal battleground state. How to talk like a banker
  + stars: | 2024-11-03 | by ( Emmalyse Brownstein | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +9 min
A manager might leave a comment on a page telling the junior banker to "kill this," which just means delete it. A manager might also instruct the junior banker to "take another stab" at it, which means doing the presentation over again and sending it back by email. In stock market talk, "trading with the Street" usually means someone is trading along the lines of majority opinion. It's so much a part of the culture that the term is also used by higher-ups to describe their junior bankers professionally. Each time a banker makes changes to client materials pre-meeting — like a deck — it's standard practice for every round of edits or changes to be saved as a new file.

With Pennsylvania expected to be a close and crucial state in the 2024 race for the presidency, it's unusual election laws are again under the microscope. But in a race that is expected to be decided on the margins, boosting support among women and older voters could make a difference. There are some signs in early voting data that women seniors are highly motivated to vote, said Tom Bonier, a Democratic strategist and CEO of the data firm TargetSmart. But it isn’t always a deterrent – Combs’ former girlfriend Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit accusing Combs of abuse last November. Judges weigh the John or Jane Does’ privacy rights against the Constitution’s presumption of open courts and the defendant’s rights to defend themselves. It is also usually permitted when a John or Jane Doe can establish with medical documentation that they will suffer harm. A New York state judge this week ordered hearings to consider whether to allow numerous John Doe lawsuit against Combs to proceed anonymously. How Hermès is bucking the global luxury slowdown
  + stars: | 2024-10-31 | by ( Natalie Rice | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +2 min
French luxury company Hermès has spent nearly 200 years emphasizing quality, scarcity and desirability — a strategy that's helped it dominate the luxury sector, even over its much larger rivals. Analysts say the Birkin and the Kelly account for between 25% and 28% of Hermès' total revenue. For fiscal year 2023 Hermès reported the fourth-highest revenue total of the major luxury fashion brands, behind LVMH , Richemont and Kering . In its most recent quarter, Hermès posted double-digit revenue growth while competitors LVMH and Kering reported sharper-than-expected declines in sales. Globally, many luxury consumers have pulled back on spending, particularly aspirational buyers in 2023 and 2024.

Trump supporters spread videos on Tuesday of long lines in Buck County, Pennsylvania, where voters were waiting to request a mail-ballot in person. Election officials allow voters to request, fill out and return their mail ballots in person at the county elections office, casting a mail ballot early. Trump claimed on Monday night that there were thousands of fake ballots and fraudulent mail ballot applications in two Pennsylvania counties, Lancaster and York. CNN —A federal judge said a woman who accused Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting her cannot proceed with her lawsuit under a pseudonym after finding the rapper has a right to defend himself. Judge Vyskocil ruled the woman has to file the lawsuit under her name by November 13 or the lawsuit will be dismissed. In the lawsuit, the judge notes there is no allegation that Combs threatened this woman about going public with her allegations. “The Court appreciates that Combs is a public figure and, therefore, Plaintiff is likely to face public scrutiny if she proceeds in her own name. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner is suing Elon Musk and his super PAC to block their million-dollar giveaway to registered voters, seeking to halt the lottery-style stunt that election experts, and the Justice Department, have warned might violate federal law. It’s illegal under federal law to pay someone to vote, but Musk insists he isn’t paying people to register. Musk and America PAC have said that their monetary giveaways are to encourage petition signatures. Still, his contest is only open to those in key battleground state and favors Pennsylvania voters by awarding them all $100 each.
