Anastasia Amoroso, chief investment strategist at iCapital, believes the "biggest market risk" right now is the Fed raising the terminal rate to a range of 6% to 6.5%. One obvious area fixed income, with Ma Yung-Yu, chief investment strategist at BMO Wealth Management, calling the asset class a "welcome relief and benefit to the portfolio." Alternative investment fintech iCapital is making 100 new hires in its tech department. iCapital CEO Lawrence Calcano told Insider "great people are always in demand." The fintech, which was founded in 2013, operates a marketplace where investors and firms can get an overview of alternative investments like private equity and hedge-funds. "Long term, there's still strong trends of advisors recommending higher allocations to alternative investments. It bought Wells Fargo's and UBS's alternative investments feeder fund platforms and the companies Artivest, Simon Markets, and AI Insight.

The stunning plunge in asset prices, however, has created a promising entry point for investors, Amoroso told Insider. Markets moves will likely be muted in the coming months as the economy endures slowdown and the central bank brings the Federal Funds rate higher, she explained. The second half of this year, though, will be a key pivot point once the terminal rate is higher than core PCE inflation. "The times you want to invest," according to Amoroso, "is when economic data is falling apart, not surging." "We like private credit because amid the pullback in public markets, the banks are not as eagerly lending to companies," Amoroso said.

Such returns have attracted state pension funds, university endowments, and, most recently, individual investors from the ultra-high-net-worth to the Joe Schmoes. Companies like iCapital, Allocate, RealBlocks and CAIS (pronounced case) launched to help wealth-management firms usher their clients into sought-after private market funds.
