‘A sheer coincidence’The journey to the Supreme Court unknowingly began even before the insurrection itself. (In the Cawthorn case, the group partnered with a retired GOP state Supreme Court justice.) CREW appealed to the Colorado Supreme Court, whose members were all appointed by Democratic governors, though they originate from a pool of candidates recommended by a bipartisan panel. Trump appealed the Colorado ruling to the US Supreme Court in early January and oral arguments are set for Thursday. “It’s embarrassing, and it shows the imbalance on our state Supreme Court,” Buck told CNN.

DuPont preannounced disappointing earnings results before the opening bell Wednesday, sending the stock down roughly 13%. Operating fourth-quarter EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) is expected to be about $715 million, operating cash flow about $640 million, and adjusted free cash flow is expected to be about $500 million. That compares to estimates, according to FactSet, of $746 million, $573 million and $447 million, respectively. These forecasts represent across-the-board misses versus Street expectations for sales of $3.04 billion, operating EBITDA of $751 million, and earnings of 88 cents per share. Given the slower recovery and impact on 2024 earnings, we are reducing our DuPont price target to $78 per share from $85.

Hollywood stakeholders and analysts alike have declared Netflix the winner of the streaming wars — but the celebration may be short-lived as streaming enters a new phase. Analysts can't say for sure how much more subscriber growth Netflix can add through its cheaper ad tier and password-sharing crackdown, though. Plus, Netflix is about to face big competition for ad dollars from Amazon, which will launch ads on Prime Video starting January 29. Also, Big Tech's ability to fund their streaming services indefinitely could keep subscription prices depressed for Netflix, along with everyone else, Bernstein noted. But now that the strikes are over, some analysts predict Netflix will face a bigger content bill going forward.

Just over two months ago, the S&P 500 was at a breaking point. After Keller's call, the S&P 500 rose nearly 6% in six weeks. The S&P 500 was stuck in purgatory for weeks, barely budging from the 4,769 level at which it entered 2024. David Keller, StockCharts.comExpect the S&P 500 to heat up heading into the summerDespite stocks' shaky near-term prospects, Keller believes their medium-term outlook is rosy. In all likelihood, Keller said the S&P 500 will regain momentum after a near-term hiccup and push toward the 5,000 milestone in April, May, or June.

What little suspense is left in the year revolves around whether the S & P 500 can close at a historic high. Closing the year at a historic high is a fairly rare event — it's only happened eight times since 1926, and only four times since 1963, according to S & P Global: 2020, 2013, 1999, 1991, 1963, 1958, 1954, 1928. So far, the S & P is up 0.9% in these first four of the seven days. The S & P internals are almost the opposite of where they were a year ago. S & P 500: overbought and expensive: Relative Strength Indicator (RSI): 72 (overbought) % stocks over 50-day- moving average: 89% (high, overbought) Forward earnings P/E: 19.6 (expensive) Earnings growth: 11% (high) Markets are positioned very bullish.

A few days ago, S & P noted that the S & P 500 total return of 25.85% would only be up 9.49% ex the Magnificent 7. If you own the S & P 500 long-term, you are participating in those gains. The S & P is up 1,200 points (25%) since then and is knocking on the door of an historic high. The S & P 500 is overbought and expensive on most metrics. The S & P 500 up almost 25% in a year is the kind of problem a lot of people would be happy to have.

Biden vowed that he would not relent until all American hostages in Gaza were released. Biden had his own demand throughout the talks: Humanitarian assistance had to reach Gaza, regardless of a deal. Israel’s ground invasion plans were revised so fighting could be paused if a hostage deal came together. Talks resumed last Friday, and in another conversation with the Qatari emir, Biden told him it was the last shot at a hostage deal and he had to close it now. Officials also crafted a way to try to entice Hamas to release more hostages than the 50 already agreed to.

"It depends a lot on interest rates, and if they can remain where they're at, I think that's certainly a possibility," Keller said in a recent interview with Insider. Speaking of spot-on, Keller predicted in mid-September that the S&P 500 would fall to 4,100 if it broke below 4,350. "And a lot of S&P stocks are still down on the year, but that seems like it's starting to change." Its relative performance is also lacking , as the S&P 500 is up 17.3% in that span. (AP) — Election officials in Mississippi’s most populous county had to scramble to complete required poll worker training after an early September breach involving county computers. In Hinds County, such training is typically completed by early October before a November general election, according to Election Commissioner Shirley Varnado. Mississippi has a general election Tuesday with key races such as governor and secretary of state — the state’s top election official. In 2020, Democrat Joe Biden won the county with 73% of the vote, while Republican Donald Trump received 57.5% statewide. Issues with the state’s network were resolved and access to the statewide election management system was restored, according to state election officials.

There are many reasons why a particular trade might be your most successful, but when asked, investors identify one factor above all others. In a recent client survey conducted by Charles Schwab, 33% of investors attributed their greatest investing success to patience through volatility. Despite a recent hiccup, growth stocks are in style as concerns about the US economy persist. Growth stocks may generate earnings quickly, but that doesn't mean stock-pickers should rush to sell them — even after letdowns like a disappointing quarter. Every stock in the 52-year-old growth fund has tailwinds like sustainable earnings growth and defendable competitive advantages, Humphrey said. Valuation is an afterthought for some growth managers, but not those on Humphrey's team. While BE-FAST helps with finding the most common symptoms of stroke, it may not reflect the stroke experience of all people. Stroke symptoms in men vs. womenScientists have come up with several theories for why men and women experience stroke differently. If women are outliving men, they also have more time and opportunity to have a stroke, Miller added. There are treatments available to improve the survival outcomes for stroke, Kamdar said, but they are all time sensitive.
