Los Angeles, California (AP) – The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has agreed to pay $880 million to victims of clergy sexual abuse dating back decades, in what an attorney said was the largest single child sex abuse settlement with a Catholic archdiocese, it was announced Wednesday. Attorney Morgan Stewart, who led the negotiations, said in a statement that the settlement is the largest single child sex abuse settlement with a Catholic archdiocese. “These survivors have suffered for decades in the aftermath of the abuse. The settlement will be funded by archdiocese investments, accumulated reserves, bank financing, and other assets. According to the archdiocese, certain religious orders and others named in the litigation will also cover some of the cost of the settlement, the Times said.

Including Detroit, Trump this year has pointedly attacked the most populous cities in three battleground states crucial to winning the White House: Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Trump’s attacks risk offending swing voters who don’t share his dark view of their big cities, as well as Black voters his campaign is trying to sway in what’s expected to be a close election won on the margins. Thank you, sir, for saying it.’ They want help.”“These cities,” Trump added, “it’s like living in hell.”It’s not only large cities that Trump likes to vilify. A Republican close to Trump’s campaign argued that his attacks on cities aren’t insults but are, rather, a pledge to solve problems that most people who live in those regions recognize. Latina women working full time, year-round earn 58 cents for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men, according to data collected by the National Women's Law Center. That gap in pay translates to a loss of nearly $1.3 million over a 40-year career. Break that down further and Latinas lose $32,070 in wages per year, or $2,672 every month, compared with the dominant cohort. "The increase in lifetime losses and widening of the wage gap for all Latina workers, including part-time workers, is likely because white men's wages are increasing at a faster rate than other demographic groups," said Ashir Coillberg, NWLC senior research analyst. Despite the narrow improvement for full-time workers, the gap actually widens for part-time and part-year Latina workers, falling to 51 cents on the dollar compared with 52 cents last year.

"While rescheduling has advanced, and if adopted it would mark the largest incremental step forward in federal cannabis reform to date, the fact remains that it is not completed." In late August, Trump departed from his usual stance that cannabis legalization should be left up to each individual state. "The fact that both Republican and Democratic Presidential candidates now support federal cannabis reform increases the probability that federal cannabis legalization is simply a matter of time," said Bernstein analyst Nadine Sarwat, in a recent note. However, while candidate support has boosted the market, Bernstein also noted that growth has been stagnant in the category as it faces macro headwinds. "Despite all the headlines regarding potential federal reform, state-level sales performance is sobering," Sarwat said.
