As Hurricane Milton barrels toward Tampa Bay, some residents are saying that the resources needed to evacuate — especially gasoline — are in short supply, despite a mandate to leave the area. Debris from Helene also poses a risk as Milton approaches because the objects can turn into dangerous projectiles. On social media, lines stretching around the block could be seen at the few gas stations in the greater Tampa Bay area that still had fuel. Hurricane Helene had already damaged her family home and she assumes more, if not total damage, will be wrought by Milton. “What’s really sad is seeing people pulling up to gas stations and just staring at pumps that are out of gas,” she said.

Google’s search dominance is unwinding

New York CNN —Google is so synonymous with its core product that its name is a verb that means “search.” Yet Google’s dominance of that market is shrinking. For the first time in decades, Google next year will not control a majority of the US search market, according to a forecast by advertising research firm eMarketer. Google will remain the biggest search player, maintaining a 48% share of American search advertising revenue. That ruling could result in the eventual breakup of the company’s search business. TikTok, the fastest growing social network, is getting into into the search business.

Dr. Morgan Robach, a dermatologist, and Dr. Vivian Chin, a cosmetic physician, both administer Botox and filler treatments. Your injector doesn't have the right credentialsTreatments from unlicensed or unqualified injectors are always dangerous, whether you're getting Botox or "vampire facials," because they can neglect basic safety protocols. If you're getting filler, the office should be stocked with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down filler, in case you get a filler occlusion. You don't like your injector's styleIf your injector's own Botox and filler looks too dramatic to you, it's worth being cautious, according to Rabach. "I tend to be a conservative injector," Chin said.

AdvertisementIn recent years, many young people have questioned whether the benefits of a college degree are worth the cost of tuition. According to a new survey, college graduates appear to have a clear edge in one area: their social lives. However, the widespread decline in socialization in recent decades has been steeper for people without a college degree. AdvertisementAdditionally, people without a college degree may also be more likely to work multiple jobs, or have roles with unpredictable hours, Pressler said. Going to college can be a "supercharger of relationships"Of course, some of the social benefits of a college degree date back to the connections fostered on campuses.

For years, Jeff Sharp often relied on the same refrain when he came upon an addict. The only reason Bailey wasn’t charged in Hilbert’s murder, Zois told “Dateline,” is because she is dead. A lawyer for Bischoff disputed this account, telling “Dateline” that his client had nothing to do with Hilbert’s murder. Bailey Sharp, 23, was killed weeks after Justin Hilbert's murder. And without that money, the arrangement between Bischoff, Bailey and Serrano fell apart in the weeks that followed.

Hard seltzers, spiked seltzers, and their ilk have been marketed as lighter than traditional alcoholic beverages. In the 2010s, the hard seltzers started to pop up, with names like White Claw and Truly, both of which launched in 2016. Advertisement"During the pandemic, hard seltzers really blew up, and I think hard seltzers are one of those ones that were perceived as a little bit of a better-for-you option," said Kaleigh Theriault, an associate director of beverage-alcohol thought leadership at NIQ, a market research firm. The market got saturated, and people started to realize there could be a lot more to canned alcohol than beer and hard seltzers. Tara flour is one of two products made from the seed pods of a thorny shrub native to Peru. The pods of the tara plant are used to make tara gum and tara flour. As some consumers had discovered, tara flour was not safe, the FDA decreed in May 2024 — nearly two years after the ingredient sickened hundreds. Sure, many small businesses aren't glamorous — think dental practices or accounting firms — and they involve long hours and unpredictable market forces. The US Small Business Administration said in July that there were nearly 35 million small businesses in the US. Fewer than two-thirds of small businesses in the US in 2022 were profitable, and over a million businesses of all sizes close each year. Traditionally, small businesses were family businesses, and the eldest male child was expected to take it over when the patriarch was ready to step down. Buying up small businesses allows people without wealthy boomer parents to cash in on the trillions of dollars of wealth the generation is sitting on.
