Then it was followed by C.K.’s Grammy-winning 2022 album “Sincerely Louis C.K.,” in which he joked about the behavior as a sexual hangup rather than abuse. “There are dozens of Russell Brands,” was the headline of one Guardian piece on female comics. I want a world where female comics have a workplace where they feel they’ll be supported — and, more importantly, employed — if they speak out about abuse.

If Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” was a twist on the centuries-old Gothic horror genre, there was no one better suited to play a modern Gothic heroine than Shelley Duvall. Duvall, who died Thursday at 75, was in her late 20s when she shot the role of Wendy Torrance, put-upon wife of blocked writer Jack (Jack Nicholson). The pair have holed up with their young son in the Overlook Hotel, working as winter caretakers. Wendy is virtually trapped there, a small woman often alone in a rambling, dangerous building full of secrets. The Gothic heroine, the woman trapped in the menacing haunted home, must exhibit courage in the face of danger, remaining resolute while also being susceptible to the evil that lurks around every corner.

Less than weighty in the comedy part of its equation, the film largely works as a vehicle for Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, even without completely sticking the landing. In classic fashion, they are of course instantly drawn to each other, creating the need to erect barriers in order to keep them apart. Scarlett Johansson plays a marketing expert recruited by NASA in "Fly Me to the Moon." Perhaps foremost, “Fly Me to the Moon” possesses appealing virtues consciously plucked from the past, then adorns them with modern baubles. “Fly Me to the Moon” premieres July 12 in US theaters.

The actor Alec Baldwin appeared Monday in a Santa Fe courthouse as his lawyers sparred with prosecutors over what evidence could be shown to the jury when he goes on trial this week for the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of the film “Rust.”Wearing a suit with a gray striped tie and glasses with thick dark frames, Mr. Baldwin, who is facing a charge of involuntary manslaughter, appeared to pay close attention to the proceedings, taking notes and leaning over to speak with a lawyer. Mr. Baldwin was indicted by a grand jury for his role in the fatal shooting of the cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, who was killed on Oct. 21, 2021, when a gun he was rehearsing with discharged a live bullet. Thanks to de-aging technology, De Niro portrayed Sheeran throughout his life, the lines on his face digitally smoothed. There are a few ways to make actors appear younger on screen using technology, each with advantages and disadvantages. In 2019’s “Gemini Man," the younger version of Will Smith’s character Henry Brogan has a fully CGI head. There’s an excruciating bit in “The Irishman” when a supposedly young Sheeran kicks another character out of his shop. This, really, is why de-aging megastars always feels a bit icky.

CNN —Céline Dion insisted that graphic footage of herself having a violent muscle spasm should stay in a new documentary about her life, the film’s director has said. In an interview with Variety, Irene Taylor, the director of “I Am: Céline Dion,” said the legendary singer insisted on keeping the “intensely revealing” moment in the final cut. Upon being shown the footage, “the very first thing she said was, ‘I think this film can help me,’” according to Taylor. Only minutes before, Dion had finished two days of recording for the first time in four years. Despite her discomfort and uncertainty about filming the incident, Taylor told Variety that she held on to her boom mic and kept filming.

CNN —A judge in New Mexico denied Alec Baldwin’s motion to dismiss the involuntary manslaughter indictment against him in the “Rust” fatal shooting case, connected to the 2021 death of the film’s cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins. Baldwin’s attorneys had accused prosecutors of misconduct during the grand jury process and sought to have the case dismissed. Baldwin’s lawyers filed a motion to dismiss the indictment in March. In response to Baldwin’s team’s March motion to dismiss the indictment, special prosecutors in New Mexico defended their case, saying Baldwin’s behavior on the “Rust” movie set contributed to “safety compromises” that led to the fatal shooting. In the order to deny Baldwin’s motion to dismiss, the judge said despite the defense’s claims,there was no prosecutorial bad faith, as Baldwin’s legal team had claimed, and proper procedures were followed in the grand jury process.
