Seth Rogan threw his support behind striking writers and echoed concerns over the use of AI in writing television shows. Rogan said you'd have to "shove a lot of weed" into an AI model to get it to write good-quality TV. Members of the guild previously told Insider they are worried about the threat of AI models like ChatGPT usurping writers as a cheaper substitute. Studios will never act fairly or equitably without being forced to," Rogan told IndieWire. "I'm personally very disturbed and distressed by the lack of information that I personally get from these streaming services that we have films and television shows on," Rogan told the outlet.
At the time, I smugly demurred, but eventually there was no denying she had been right. Although this money would theoretically be equitably divided when divorce papers were signed, I realized the precarious situation I had unwittingly set myself up for: I’d relinquished control over my financial future. Facing reduced income and the extra expenses that come with divorce proceedings, wresting it back would be painful. Preparing for a financial setbackI’m hardly alone. Women of color are also disproportionately affected because of a wider gender pay gap.
Companies Genesis Global Capital, Llc FollowMay 4 (Reuters) - Bankrupt crypto exchange FTX received U.S. bankruptcy court permission on Thursday to sell its LedgerX business for $50 million, raising additional funds to repay creditors. Miami International Holdings owns the Bermuda Stock Exchange and several U.S.-registered securities exchanges, including the Miami International Securities Exchange. FTX said in a court filing that Genesis owes it that money as a result of transactions that took place shortly before FTX's bankruptcy filing. Genesis, unlike other creditors, was largely repaid before FTX went bankrupt, FTX said. FTX, a once-prominent crypto exchange, filed for Chapter 11 amid allegations that founder Sam Bankman-Fried used FTX customers' money to prop up Alameda's balance sheet.

MADRID, April 11 (Reuters) - Norway's sovereign fund will oppose Spanish engineering firm Ferrovial's plan to relocate to the Netherlands at the firm's shareholders meeting to be held on Thursday. The $1.4 trillion fund, which holds a 1.49% stake in Ferrovial, said on its website it will vote against the planned reverse merger through which the company would be absorbed by its wholly-owned Dutch subsidiary FISE. The sovereign fund explained its decision on Ferrovial reminding of its general guidelines on corporate decisions. The Norwegian fund will support all the other proposals made by the board to the shareholders, it said. Proxy adviser Glass Lewis & Co said the proposed reverse merger would not have a significant effect on shareholder rights though it could have "negative reputational impact" in Spain.
A resolution to Johnson & Johnson's outstanding talc litigation claims may finally be here — and that's welcome news for the company and its shareholders. Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) said it will pay $8.9 billion over the next 25 years to resolve all current and future talc claims. But now that J & J has created a path toward resolving its talc litigation at a steep but very manageable cost of $8.9 billion, the overhang pressure should ease. With the J & J talc litigation overhang nearing an end, the stock deserves to trade back to this level at a minimum. In this photo illustration a bottle of Johnson & Johnson baby powder is displayed on a table on November 12, 2021 in San Anselmo, California.

In a court filing Tuesday, lawyers representing a creditors committee of talc plaintiffs said they recently became aware of discussions about a second J&J subsidiary bankruptcy. The J&J subsidiary that was to absorb liability for the talc cases, LTL Management, declared bankruptcy almost immediately after it was created. Andy Birchfield, a plaintiffs' lawyer at law firm Beasley Allen, said on Tuesday that claims “could easily be resolved if Johnson & Johnson would stop playing games and abusing the bankruptcy court process." How the J&J subsidiary might square such a move with the appeals court ruling remained unclear.
New York CNN —Johnson & Johnson is trying once again to use the bankruptcy courts to settle tens of thousands of cases that claim its talc products cause cancer. The pharmaceutical company is now willing to pay $8.9 billion to plaintiffs over 25 years. A previous attempt to use Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection to resolve the talc cases was rejected by an appellate court, which ruled the company couldn’t go bankrupt because it wasn’t in financial distress. Johnson & Johnson has long held that talcum powder products are safe to use. Although J&J claims it has won the majority of its talc lawsuits, juries have awarded some customers billions of dollars in damages, siding with claimants’ arguments that the company’s talc products caused their cancer.

Li, installed as premier on Saturday during the annual session of China's parliament, is tasked with reviving the world's second-largest economy after three years of COVID curbs. But he faces challenges including weak confidence among consumers and private industry, sluggish demand for exports and worsening relations with the United States. China's private sector has been rattled in recent years by a sweeping regulatory clampdown targeting some of its most vibrant industries, including the internet and private education. At the opening of the annual parliamentary session, China set a GDP growth target of 5% percent, its lowest goal in nearly three decades, after the economy grew just 3% last year. China's relations with the United States sank to a low after U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan in August 2022.
NEW YORK , March 7 (Reuters) - Bank of America Corp's (BAC.N) Chief Executive Officer Brian Moynihan had a clear message for shareholders on Tuesday: "We are capitalists." The proclamation from the head of the second-largest U.S. lender might seem obvious, but comes at a time when Wall Street titans face more criticism for embracing environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations. The word "capitalism" is mentioned 22 times in BofA's latest annual report spanning 222 pages, rising from 16 times a year earlier. Still, the CEO acknowledged there are concerns about whether companies share profits or pay people fairly and equitably. The lender outlined its ESG goals in the report, including a pledge to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and deploy $1.5 trillion in sustainable finance by 2030.
Private Chinese and foreign firms have been waiting for Beijing to flesh out details on how it intends to pursue "common prosperity", Xi's signature initiative to narrow China's wealth gap, and how it expects private firms to contribute. Xi also said that private firms should share the fruits of their growth with employees more equitably, in what he called a "community of shared interests". "Be rich and responsible, be rich and benefit others, be rich and loving," state radio cited Xi as saying. He said it is unfair to expect private firms to share the social responsibility for "common prosperity" with state-owned firms, which enjoy privileged access to markets and preferential loans not always available to private firms. "Led by the United States, the West has implemented all-round containment to suppress China, bringing unprecedented challenges to China's development," state radio quoted Xi as saying.

They are pushing forward an agenda aimed at building things in America again ... and taking on corporate power," he said. The backers of the Pennsylvania lawsuit expressed optimism that the case will make a difference for underfunded school districts in the state. A Pennsylvania judge Tuesday declared the state’s system for funding public education unconstitutional because it doesn’t ensure schools are financed equitably, a sweeping win for a group of school districts that have pursued a yearslong legal battle against the state government. The decision, which found “manifest deficiencies” between low-wealth school districts in Pennsylvania and more affluent ones, doesn’t lay out how the state can create a more equitable school finance system. Instead, it directs the state legislature to work with Gov. Josh Shapiro and the school districts that sued to come up with a remedy.
A lawyer for Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiary said in a statement that the company would seek a rehearing of the panel’s decision by the full 3rd Circuit court. Gordon’s strategy worked in bankruptcy court but set up J&J for failure when it faced the 3rd Circuit appeals panel. Gordon, at the bankruptcy conference, described the lawsuits as “completely unmanageable” and a dire threat to J&J that could go on for decades. The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals is expected to hear arguments in coming months on a challenge to the 3M subsidiary’s bankruptcy. The litigation, they asserted, should be allowed to proceed against Georgia-Pacific because the parent company did not file for bankruptcy.

If the first Cold War was defined by the development of nuclear weapons, this Tech Cold War is defined by the computer chip. The massive Intel plant in Ohio is a key part of the race with China for the future of tech. Even before the Intel plant, the Columbus area was well acquainted with these sorts of trade-offs. But, the Ohio State study found, Columbus' residential tax-abatement programs did little to meaningfully address the housing problem, while draining the city's funds. Federal, state, and local subsidies add up to billions of dollars that Intel is saving on its new Ohio semiconductor factory.
Koch unit Georgia-Pacific used a corporate bankruptcy maneuver known as the Texas two-step, forming a new Texas subsidiary, Bestwall, that took on the company's asbestos liability. The latest court documents, filed on Wednesday, provide new detail about how Koch has benefited from the case. Koch has received more than $5 billion since Bestwall filed for bankruptcy in 2017. Representatives for New Georgia-Pacific and Koch Industries did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday. New Georgia-Pacific's shareholder equity is forecast to be about $27.8 billion after accounting for the Koch dividends, according to the Wednesday court filing.

His case was halted by the Boy Scouts bankruptcy. Later that year, in August, he filed his lawsuit against defendants including a Boy Scouts local council and DeSandre.

In the earlier petition, Perry Greene indicated that the couple had "acquired certain marital debt which should be equitably divided" and asked that the court "make a fair and equitable distribution of said assets and liabilities."
Kate Brown announced plans Tuesday to commute the sentences of the 17 people on death row to life in prison without the possibility of parole, most likely using her executive clemency powers for the last time as governor. “Unlike previous commutations I’ve granted to individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary growth and rehabilitation, this commutation is not based on any rehabilitative efforts by the individuals on death row. Instead, it reflects the recognition that the death penalty is immoral." Brown said the commutations were consistent with a moratorium on the death penalty Gov. The death penalty was first legalized in Oregon in the 19th century, but it has been abolished and reinstated three times since then.
