Disney CEO Bob Iger must decide whether to acquire all of Hulu and fold it into Disney+. By buying all of Hulu, Disney could integrate its content into Disney+, which would make the flagship Disney streamer a formidable challenger to Netflix. "You look at the Disney+ bundle with Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, and it's a pretty powerful combination," Nispel told Insider. Currently, the ad versions of Hulu and Disney+ each cost $8 per month while ad-free Hulu and Disney+ cost $15 and $11, respectively. The consensus among analysts about Disney's Hulu dilemma was neatly summarized by Barton Crockett of Rosenblatt Securities, whose price target implies 26% upside for Disney.

I don't know if it's going to be this tournament, but of course I think he's ready," Ferrero, who has worked with Alcaraz for nearly five years, told reporters. "I'm impressed obviously about his level, but I'm with him now for almost five years so let's say I know the level he's able to play," Ferrero said. "The way he's playing, he's able to make any shots on the court. If you ask him to go to the net on match point, he's able to do it. If I ask to return and go to the net, he's able to do it and make the drop shot.

loadingWhile Arteta and his players dismissed talk of "bottling" the title race, for their fans there is a crushing sense of what could have been. Arsenal were eight points clear two months ago and appeared to be heading towards bagging their first league title since Arsene Wenger's 2003-04 'Invincibles'. GUARDIOLA MIND GAMESBut the eight-point gap was an illusion as City always had games in hand while Guardiola played mind games, effusive in his praise of Arsenal and Arteta, his former assistant at City. Guardiola has seen his fair share of tense title races and even when Arsenal had three games to go, he gently applied more pressure. The master had outshone the apprentice as Guardiola's side marched to their fifth league title in six seasons.
Meta is reportedly pitching celebrities and influencers to join its "Instagram for your thoughts." A new report from the Substack of Lia Haberman cites conversations with a creator who met with Meta about the app. Initial images of the app in marketing materials make it look like a mix of Twitter and Instagram. Haberman posted in a Friday newsletter and on Twitter what appear to be the first images of the still-unnamed app. The app may be compatible with other apps like Mastodon, allowing users to search across apps, Haberman reported.
Lyft CEO David Risher told CNBC's Jim Cramer on Friday he doesn't need to annihilate the competition — namely ride-share behemoth, Uber — to successfully turn around the struggling company. "I don't need to dethrone a king," Risher said, insisting the current market warrants two players because customers and drivers like to have options. "Five years from now, I hope people are no longer asking about Uber and Lyft," Risher continued, "I hope what they're saying is, 'Look what an amazing experience Lyft has created that'll help us get out and live our lives.'" Risher assumed the role of Lyft CEO just under a month ago, taking the reins from one of the company's co-founders, Logan Green. Risher made his name as an Amazon retail executive, joining the company in 1997 as its 37th employee, he told Cramer; he left in 2002.
And so whenever I get one of those notifications, I know I’m going to have a good time there. kevin roose[LAUGHS]: I actually don’t think I could’ve told you what IBM stood for. kevin rooseSo I’ve thought a lot and written a lot about how and when AI actually is a threat to jobs. The third category is just the jobs that I think are going to be protected, the jobs that we won’t let AI do. But I don’t actually think the speed of it matters at all.
The US dollar has dominated global trade and been the leading reserve currency for nearly 80 years. But rival countries – including China and Russia – are trying to change that. But a growing list of countries – including Brazil, China, and Russia – are trying to unseat the greenback. Rival countries China and Russia are spearheading the effort to wean the world off the buck. "There is a lot of inertia in reserve currency status," a team of strategists led by Kamakshya Trivedi said.
WASHINGTON, April 18 (Reuters) - There was "some evidence" that China wants the dollar to weaken as the international reserve currency, said a White House nominee for a top economist position on Tuesday, and he urged Congress to raise the U.S. debt ceiling to protect the dollar's value. Asked by Republican Senator Bill Haggerty where he stood now, Bernstein said, "I share your view on the importance of the dollar as the dominant reserve currency." He said raising the debt ceiling would help maintain the dollar's reserve currency status and protect its value. The Treasury report criticized China for not publishing foreign exchange intervention and lack of transparency around its exchange-rate mechanism. Weak tax collections in April could mean the U.S. government's deadline to raise the $31.4 trillion debt ceiling will happen sooner than expected, analysts said on Tuesday.
This access, however, allows Google to stay ahead of competition like Microsoft, while generating heaps of search traffic that Alphabet then monetizes with advertising. Alphabet vs. Microsoft Since Bing was first introduced in 2009, Microsoft has been trying to dethrone Google in search. About a month after unveiling the new Bing, Microsoft said in a blog post that the search engine topped 100 million daily active users (DAUs). By comparison, Google search gets more than 1 billion DAUs. Morgan Stanley said Alphabet's full integration of Bard into search is an important next step to showcase the company's "leading multiyear AI search and development."
U.S. corn export sales for 2022-23, which ends on Aug. 31, totaled 29.2 million tonnes (1.15 billion bushels) through Feb. 23. Through Feb. 23, China had booked about six U.S. corn cargoes since late January for delivery in the current marketing year. Since July, Brazil has shipped over 45 million tonnes of corn, well above the prior record of 36.4 million set three years ago. Preliminarily, Brazil shipped 2.3 million tonnes of corn last month, down sharply from January’s 6.2 million and the lowest monthly volume since June. USDA’s latest predictions show Japan’s 2022-23 corn imports flat on the year around 15 million tonnes, which suggests Japanese buyers still have substantial corn needs to cover.
Ron DeSantis' potential bid to dethrone former President Donald Trump could hit a critical snag in Iowa, home to the first-in-the-nation caucuses. "If you come to Iowa, you're going to talk about agriculture," Monte Shaw, the executive director of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, told Insider. DeSantis won't be alone in facing questionsTrump's own administration was hammered over its handling of the renewable fuel standard. Like Iowa's senators, he was also deeply frustrated by how Trump's EPA enforced the renewable fuel standard. Chris Carlson/APTexas Sen. Ted Cruz was hammered for months on the campaign trail for wanting to phase out the Renewable Fuel Standard.
Florida-based Patrick Cohn, who teaches mental skills and sports psychology techniques to professional athletes, said he was not surprised Djokovic was still dominating the next generation. Cohn believes young players must rely on better preparation, tactics and develop a stronger mental game to topple Djokovic. I suggest to younger players that they view opponents as nameless and rankless." Former tennis player Jeff Greenwald, now a sports psychology consultant, said the Spanish world number two possessed rare qualities required to excel at the elite level. He will be a contender and likely one of the players who begins to take a bite out of Djokovic."
FOR MOST OF the 2000s, white Calacatta and Carrara marble, with their subtle colorations, reigned as interior design’s status stones. “Everyone” craved the gray and gold hints of color that ran through the marbles popular then, recalled Gabriela Cruz, vice president of operations with Nash Stone Group in Farmingdale, N.Y.What no one would have guessed at the time was that a marble shot through with wine-red veining would dethrone white marbles so handily in the 2020s. But Calacatta Viola, with its rivulets of aubergine and burgundy, has done just that. Today customers want marble with color and life, notes Ms. Cruz, who theorizes that a post-Covid desire for vibrancy is driving the passion for the stone. Chicago designer Caroline Turner, who recently installed a kitchen worktop and backsplash in the material, says demand for Viola has reached a “fever pitch.”
In case you missed it, last week Microsoft held an event that had the buzz of a Steve Jobs iPhone launch. Google Bard VS OpenAI ChatGPT displayed on Mobile with Openai and Google logo on screen seen in this photo illustration. In this two-horse race, Google certainly didn't do itself any favors in bumbling its own AI demo last week. But the battle will ultimately come down to Microsoft and Google, according to venture capitalist Vinod Khosla. Record highs for the stock market are within reach this year, according to Fundstrat.
Are jerks more likely to get ahead at work?
  + stars: | 2023-01-23 | by ( Aki Ito | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +10 min
Even worse, all the cutthroat role models we're surrounded by at work make us hesitant about being nice ourselves. In the social sciences, the technical term for jerks — those who are combative, selfish, and manipulative — is "disagreeable." Call this the jerk way. All in all, being a jerk doesn't help you get ahead — but it also doesn't hurt. Sutton's no-asshole rule has become widely adopted, and businesses like Atlassian have overhauled their performance reviews in part to ensure that "brilliant jerks" can't get ahead.
SpaceX's most powerful rocket returns to flight

With each launch, the Falcon Heavy rocket puts on a dramatic show back on Earth. It’s a signature move for SpaceX, which routinely recovers and reuses its rocket boosters to drive down the cost of launches. All about this rocketFor years, the Falcon Heavy was the world’s most powerful operational rocket. If successful, SpaceX’s Starship would dethrone the SLS as the most powerful rocket flying today. Both the SLS rocket and SpaceX’s Starship are integral to NASA’s plans to return astronauts to the moon’s surface for the first time in half a century.
England reached the final of the Euros last year where they lost in a penalty shootout to Italy, but Kane is confident they can dethrone world champions France when they meet their European neighbours in Saturday's quarter-final. Of course we went there with the belief that we could win, but it was almost a new experience for a lot of us," Kane said. But whether we had the full belief to go and win the tournament, I'm not quite sure. "I feel like the belief has been building and building over the four or five years now. I know we're going into the game with maybe more belief than what we did back in 2018."
China's BYD is quickly gaining on Tesla, the world leader in electric car sales. This year, it kicked combustion-engine cars to the curb and has grown its EV business at an explosive pace. In 2021, the Warren Buffet-backed carmaker shipped some 320,000 pure electric vehicles (not including the plug-in hybrid vehicles that still make up much of BYD's sales). BYD's epic rise comes amid signs that Tesla is losing steam in China, the world's biggest market for electric cars. Some industry watchers like Michael Dunne, founder of the EV industry consultancy ZoZoGo, think BYD is primed to become the EV sales leader and dethrone Tesla.
Alyssa Milano tweeted that she had traded in her Tesla for a Volkswagen and "loved it." Elon Musk liked a response pointing out that VW was founded by Adolf Hitler's government. Publicly traded company's products being pushed in alignment with hate and white supremacy doesn't seem to be a winning business model." Milano is one of many celebrities to voice their opposition to Musk's Twitter, which saw a spike in hate speech following his takeover. A study by Bloomberg Intelligence predicted the German automaker would dethrone Tesla as the world's biggest EV maker by 2024.
But if a different state were to move into Iowa’s slot for Democrats, Kaufmann said he will make sure he keeps jumping so Iowa’s Republican caucus goes first. Kaufmann’s position could complicate the overall schedule even more since New Hampshire has a law on the books that it has to hold its primary just after Iowa’s caucuses. That old system began with the Iowa caucuses, then went to the New Hampshire primary, Nevada and South Carolina. Dozens of states have now applied to take one of the early state positions. The Democratic National Committee’s rules and bylaws committee is scheduled to meet in early December in Washington to discuss the presidential primary schedule.
Pereira stuns Adesanya to claim UFC middleweight crown
  + stars: | 2022-11-13 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
NEW YORK, Nov 13 (Reuters) - Brazil's Alex Pereira pulled off a stunning comeback to knock out Israel Adesanya in the fifth round and claim the UFC middleweight title and Zhang Weili choked out Carla Esparza to regain the strawweight belt at UFC 281 at Madison Square Garden. Behind on the judges' scorecards and running out of steam, Pereira unleashed a stunning combination of strikes in the final round to dethrone Adesanya, who had held the title for 3-1/2 years, in only his eighth professional MMA bout. "I feel so good, I've been training all my life, I worked so hard for this," an elated Pereira said in his post-fight interview. After winning the fourth round comfortably, Adesanya looked to be cruising towards a decision victory until Pereira, who has a previous KO win over him in kickboxing, rocked him with a right hand and followed it up with a flurry of devastating punches to claim the crown. Samsung boss Jay Y. Lee to build on late father's legacy
  + stars: | 2022-10-27 | by ( Joyce Lee | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +5 min
Lee, 54, has been vice chairman of Samsung Electronics, the crown jewel of South Korea's biggest business conglomerate, since 2012. That is a major business risk for Samsung, which counts both China and the United States as major markets. But Samsung insiders say his quiet, urbane manner disguises a steely determination Lee will need if he is to grow Samsung. As an only son, Lee was groomed by his father to take over the core business of Samsung Group, which his grandfather founded in 1938. Shares in construction affiliate Samsung C&T (028260.KS), in which Lee owns a 18% stake, rose as much as 7.1%.
The iPhone has become a "nonsubstitutable infrastructure," columnist Michael Gartenberg says. The iPhone — with iOS and the App Store — has maintained such a dominant position in the mobile industry for so long, it has achieved the status of what's known as "nonsubstitutable infrastructure." Nonsubstitutable infrastructure is something that so strongly holds users, a competitor can't get them to replace it. The New Jersey Turnpike is nonsubstitutable infrastructure. Despite this, it's inevitable that the iPhone and the Apple ecosystem will be replaced by something else.
