Buckley, 49, learned the social media slang for this sudden defiance, which is called “soiling the nest,” and said she felt that was happening with him. “It may look like picking fights with parents, talking back, leaving messes, and generally putting stress on their interpersonal relationships with their parents,” Galanti said. For teens graduating high school, the main psychological goal is to “develop and consolidate their own identities,” Galanti said. Creating this space between themselves and their parents makes the transition to this new independence phase easier for some teens, Galanti said. Florida-based writer Terry Ward lives in Tampa with her two young children, who are still squarely ensconced in the nest.

On Thursday morning, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump told his 90 million followers on X that they would hear his plan to make the U.S. the crypto capital of the planet that same day. But after a rally in Michigan and a town hall in Wisconsin, Thursday ended with no sign of Trump's plan for digital assets. A campaign spokesman did not reply when CNBC asked what happened to the crypto plan rollout. Throughout the day Thursday, CNBC heard from several pro-crypto Trump supporters who were eagerly anticipating what the Republican nominee might say. It was unclear who Trump meant by "they," and a Trump campaign spokesman did not respond to questions from CNBC about the announcement.

Just as importantly, it’s also sent a political message to Kyiv’s allies that has changed the prevailing narrative of the war - that Ukrainian forces are doomed to fight an endless rearguard action against superior Russian firepower. A Ukrainian soldier walks past at a city hall in Sudzha, Kursk region, Russia, Friday, Aug. 16, 2024. But Ukrainian forces have shown that the conflict is not a one-way street. For the Ukrainians, sustaining the operation as Russia brings more artillery and aviation to bear will become increasingly difficult. But for every passing day that Ukrainian forces control an area of Russian territory the size of Hong Kong, the Kursk incursion becomes less of a footnote.

Trump’s plan for blunting Harris’ momentum, some Democrats believe, could reprise elements of the 1988 presidential campaign that George H.W. “I think the Harris campaign has to be prepared for it.”The two sides are already hotly contesting the terrain of strength. Celinda Lake, a Democratic pollster who conducted surveys for Biden’s 2020 campaign, said his strength deficit to Trump had become a nearly insurmountable obstacle for his 2024 campaign. The surveys have also found a huge gender gap in the assessments of whether Harris and Trump are strong. Most important, voters have reached these initial assessments of Harris’ strength before Republicans have really begun their campaign to portray her as weak.

The state’s GOP Senate candidate, Kari Lake, has long challenged her Democratic competitor, Rep. Ruben Gallego, to take the debate stage. Hobbs still did not agree to the Arizona Clean Elections proposal for a traditional debate, saying Lake would create a "spectacle." Hobbs then participated in a separate Q&A with Arizona PBS, which has no affiliation with Arizona Clean Elections. Given Hobbs’ Q&A was not affiliated with Arizona Clean Elections, the organization’s executive director says Lake’s frustration is misplaced. “Traditionally, for the last, I think, three Senate races, every Senate debate has happened at the Clean Elections debate,” Gallego said last week.

As the Biden administration and its allies try to secure an elusive cease-fire in Gaza, Israel appears to have gone rogue. Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, came to Washington last week to give a defiant speech. Despite international condemnation, he vowed to continue the war against Hamas in Gaza and the West Bank, where Israel is killing and imprisoning scores of Palestinians each week, without any clear idea of its endgame. The assassinations of senior Hezbollah and Hamas figures abroad have now sharply raised the risks of a larger regional war as Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah prepare retaliation, analysts say. They are more likely to intensify the conflict than diminish it, making progress on a Gaza cease-fire even more difficult.

Activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju told CNN Thursday that there were counter-demonstrations by pro-government protesters who arrived in buses accompanied by a security vehicle. “In the northern part of Nigeria, the largest part of our country … the primary cause of hunger is insecurity. He added that Nigerians were also pained watching their leaders live in luxury while they struggled to make ends meet. Analysts told CNN at the time it was “hypocrisy” for the government to spend on luxuries while impoverished citizens suffer hardship.

CNN —In his speech to Congress on Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu struck a defiant tone, pledging to carry on with the war in Gaza until Israeli hostages are released and Hamas is eliminated. He defended Israel’s actions, pushing back against criticism that the war has gone on for too long and resulted in too many civilian casualties. The incident Netanyahu appeared to refer to occurred in May and killed at least 45 people at a camp for displaced Palestinians. Israeli officials have been making the claim that Hamas was stealing aid since October. UN Humanitarian Coordinator Lynn Hastings told CNN then that Hamas wasn’t stealing aid because aid wasn’t coming in.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, in a defiant address to members of Congress on Wednesday, defended his country’s war with Hamas in Gaza and criticized American protesters and international human rights groups. Some of his remarks have been disputed by human rights groups, and others are unverifiable or lacked context. What Was Said“The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has shamefully accused Israel of deliberately starving the people of Gaza. Israel has enabled more than 40,000 aid trucks to enter Gaza. But the number of trucks allowed into the strip and the amount of aid they carry have been in dispute.

CNN —US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle faced off Monday with angry lawmakers from both parties, who grilled her over the stunning security failures that led to the recent assassination attempt against Donald Trump. Before Trump took the stage at the rally, the director said, the Secret Service had been notified “between two and five times” that there was a suspicious person in the area. Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna pointed out that the Secret Service director who ran the agency when Reagan was shot eventually resigned from his post. Instead, Biden’s campaign unraveled over the course of the next 24 days. It’s a high-risk, high-reward gamble for Democrats, resetting a campaign Biden was losing with a new nominee just 107 days before the election. Dunn and her husband, Bob Bauer, were among Biden’s debate prep team and had faced the ire of the president’s family in the aftermath of the debate. Several news outlets, including CNN, reported that Pelosi and former President Barack Obama had privately expressed concerns about the future of Biden’s campaign. That same day, ABC News reported that Schumer told Biden in their Saturday meeting that it would be best if he bowed out of the presidential race.

CNN —President Joe Biden ran for reelection to save democracy. “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,” Biden said in a letter he posted to X on Sunday afternoon. His struggles validated concerns of majorities of voters that he would be too old for a second term that would have ended when he is 86. But in the end, Biden could not find a way to make voters unsee the poignant picture of an 81-year-old commander in chief who appeared to have seriously declined and was stumbling in the debate. Years earlier, in March 1952, Harry S. Truman, another Democratic president, had decided not to seek his own second term.

"It's like they don't know he's Irish," a Biden family confidant recently told the Post. And it comes weeks after Hunter Biden — who for years has been political fodder for Republicans — was convicted on felony gun charges. Biden has repeatedly reiterated that he has no plans to exit the race, and his family has stood with him on that decision. But should the president change course, the family would also support that decision, according to the Post.

California Rep. Mark Takano on Saturday publicly urged President Joe Biden to drop out of the race against former President Donald Trump, and instead allow Vice President Kamala Harris to helm the ticket. "President Biden's greatest accomplishment remains saving democracy in 2020. He can and must do so again in 2024 — by passing the torch to Vice President Harris as the Democratic Party Presidential nominee," Takano said in a statement. "As soon as we have the green light, we are going to be back out on the stump," Biden campaign spokesperson Michael Tyler told reporters Saturday morning. "We know which candidate in this election puts the American people first: our President, Joe Biden," she said.
