That’s why Maricopa County has spent over $864,000 in federal funds and more than $3 million in county funds to bolster its election security and processes over the past four years. Officials readily shared their worries with CNN, citing death threats, harassment, baseless lawsuits, onerous public-records requests and various security threats spurred by false claims about voter fraud. Amid these challenges, budgets for election security have been squeezed in several ways. As of Tuesday, at least three dozen cases related to voter rolls and their maintenance are pending in 19 states, according to the liberal-leaning Democracy Docket, which tracks election litigation. The right-wing effort to purge voter rolls has largely centered around claims that noncitizens are casting illegal votes in favor of Democrats. “There’s always been some litigation about voter rolls and list maintenance. Reviewing voter rolls is a regular practice for states, and despite the 90-day quiet period, the NVRA does allow individuals to ask to be taken off lists close to an election. CNN —A district court judge in Kentucky was fatally shot in his chambers Thursday afternoon, Gov. The shooting took place at the Letcher County courthouse in Whitesburg, Kentucky, County Coroner Perry Fowler told CNN. The Kentucky Court of Justice is aware of the “tragic” incident in Letcher County, the court said in a statement on Facebook. “We are currently in contact with law enforcement agencies, including Kentucky State Police, and are offering our full support during this difficult time,” the statement read. CNN has reached out to the Kentucky State Police and the county’s executive judge for comment.
