LONDON, April 17 (Reuters) - Britain's King Charles and his wife Camilla have picked a recipe for "Coronation Quiche" for celebrations to be held next month when they are crowned, Buckingham Palace said on Monday. The dish, featuring spinach, broad beans and tarragon, is a nod to Coronation Chicken, a curry and mayonnaise-based dish which was invented for the 1953 coronation of Charles' mother Queen Elizabeth II that is still enjoyed today. "A deep quiche with a crisp, light pastry case and delicate flavours of spinach, broad beans and fresh tarragon. Eat hot or cold with a green salad and boiled new potatoes," said the recipe on the royal family's website, which accompanied a video clip featuring a royal chef preparing the dish. Also present was the king's younger brother Prince Andrew, who was removed from royal duties before settling a U.S. sex abuse lawsuit last year. Both are buried in the King George VI chapel at Windsor. It is also the 18th wedding anniversary for Charles and second wife Camilla, who tied the knot in Windsor in 2005.

LONDON, April 4 (Reuters) - King Charles's grandson Prince George and the grandchildren of the Queen Consort Camilla will play major roles in the coronation of the British monarch next month, Buckingham Palace confirmed on Tuesday. George, 9, the eldest son of heir to the throne Prince William, will be one of the king's four pages of honour who will accompany him at the grand ceremony on May 6, and join the procession through the nave of London's Westminster Abbey. Camilla's four pages will be made up of her grandchildren Freddy Parker Bowles, and Gus and Louis Lopes, as well as her great-nephew Arthur Elliot. British newspapers had previously reported that the queen consort wanted her grandchildren to play significant roles, even though their parents are the children from her marriage to her first husband, Andrew Parker Bowles.
The fact that Charles had picked France and Germany for his first state visit, even before his coronation in May, was an important "European gesture", said German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who greeted Charles and his wife Queen Consort Camilla in Berlin. "Today, exactly six years after Britain started its exit from the European Union, we are opening a new chapter in our relations," Steinmeier said. A satirical tweet saying that the royal title of Britain’s Queen Consort Camilla would change to “Queen Camilla, Mother of the nation” after King Charles’ death has confused people who interpreted the post as serious. The tweet reads: “Senior royal spokesperson Lady Burlingham Smythe has informed Westminster that in event King Charles III dies before Queen Camilla her full royal title will become “Queen Camilla,Mother of the Nation”. Reuters spoke to the Twitter user who originally posted the claim, and they confirmed that the account posts parody content. Kirsty Wigglesworth/Pool via REUTERSPARIS, March 24 (Reuters) - Britain's King Charles on Friday cancelled a state visit to France after social unrest over President Emmanuel Macron's new pension law erupted into some of the worst street violence seen in years across the country. "The King and The Queen Consort's State Visit to France has been postponed. Their Majesties greatly look forward to the opportunity to visit France as soon as dates can be found," a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said. A Buckingham Palace source said Charles' visit to Germany will go ahead as planned.
LONDON, March 24 (Reuters) - King Charles' first state visit to France as British monarch, postponed on Friday because of widespread social unrest, was supposed to be an occasion celebrating a new chapter of harmony in relations between London and Paris. "The king and queen consort were of course very much looking forward to the visit," a Buckingham Palace source said. On the first state visits of his reign, the new monarch and his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, were going first to France before heading on to Germany. Now it jars with the angry mood in France," Peter Ricketts, a former British ambassador to France, told Sky News. Both the palace and Macron said they looked forward to the postponed trip going ahead in the future when dates can be found.
France and the UK agreed to postpone King Charles III's scheduled state visit. The visit was delayed because of turmoil in France over plans to increase the pension age by two years. France is raising its state pension age from 62 to 64. Protests in France over Macron's plan to raise the pension age by two years have become more violent in recent days. Major tourist attractions, including the Eiffel Tower and the Palace of Versailles, where Charles was scheduled to have a state dinner, were also closed on Thursday.
LONDON, March 13 (Reuters) - King Charles drew on his mother's inspiration on Monday as he celebrated his first Commonwealth Day as symbolic head of the grouping with a service at London's Westminster Abbey, joined by other senior members of the British royal family. Britain's Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, reacts as she, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, Queen Camilla and King Charles attend the state funeral and burial of Britain's Queen Elizabeth, in London, Britain, September 19, 2022. King Charles III's office has been in touch with Prince Harry about the new monarch's coronation, raising the possibility the prince will attend the historic ceremony despite tensions within the royal family. A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan, also known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, confirmed Sunday that Harry had received "email correspondence'' from the king's office about the coronation. Camilla was once reviled for her long-term affair with Charles, which contributed to the breakdown of his marriage to the late Prince Diana, Harry and William's mother. Harry, meanwhile, continues to share his personal experiences and critique of the royal family as he promotes his book.

LONDON, Feb 24 (Reuters) - Roald Dahl's famous children's books including "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Matilda" will be published uncensored later this year said publisher Puffin, bowing to pressure after a public outcry over modernised versions. Puffin, which is part of United States-based publisher Penguin Random House, said on Friday that it would release 17 of Dahl's titles under its Penguin logo later this year, with his original text unchanged. "By making both Puffin and Penguin versions available, we are offering readers the choice to decide how they experience Roald Dahl's magical, marvellous stories," Penguin Random House Children's managing director Francesca Dow said in a statement. Dahl's stinging and quirky descriptions of the adult antagonists, like Miss Trunchbull in "Matilda", have delighted young readers for decades. Puffin publishes Dahl's works, including "James and the Giant Peach" and "The Witches" in partnership with the Roald Dahl Story Company.
Florence’s Pitti Palace Showcases a Real Renaissance Woman

The Italian Renaissance has long been presented as a procession of male power players, from artists like Michelangelo to arts patrons like banker-statesman Lorenzo de’ Medici. But that view is set for a corrective this month, when Florence’s Uffizi Galleries mounts a comprehensive show at Pitti Palace about Eleonora di Toledo (1522–1562), the Florentine duchess who ruled the Tuscan roost for a few decades, overseeing a makeover of the city’s historic core south of the Arno that still shapes it today. Bringing together a host of splendid objects, from cameos to textiles to paintings, Eleonora di Toledo and the Invention of the Medici Court in Florence runs through May 14 in the vast palace, which Eleonora brought into the Medici orbit and then ornamented with the Boboli Gardens park just beyond. Eike Schmidt , the Uffizi director, describes Eleonora as the true “manager of the Medici court.” She acted as a consort and frequent regent for her husband, Duke Cosimo I de’ Medici, a descendant of Lorenzo’s.

King Charles makes first appearance since son Harry's book

ABOYNE, Scotland, Jan 12 (Reuters) - King Charles made his first public appearance on Thursday since the release of his son Prince Harry's tell-all memoir and accompanying TV interviews in which he made a series of accusations against the British royal family. In his book "Spare", Harry divulges that he had begged his father not to marry his second wife Camilla, now the queen consort. The book also delivered numerous other revelations, including that elder brother and heir to the throne William had knocked him over during a heated argument. Later on Thursday, William and his wife Kate, who he also criticises in his book, will make their first appearances since the memoir's release. So far, neither Buckingham Palace nor any of the royals have commented on Harry's disclosures.
“There was a new low every few minutes,” Harry wrote of the time after their relationship went public in November 2016. Prince Harry and Prince William at the unveiling of a statue of their mother, Princess Diana at Kensington Palace in London on July 1, 2021. “I don’t think Harry and Megan’s public image is repairable in the U.K.; I think it’s gone beyond that,” she added. Regardless of the danger he felt his family was in, and the disappointment with his family, Harry said he would “forever support my queen, my Commander in Chief, my Granny. Even after she’s gone.”“My problem has never been with the monarchy, or the concept of monarchy.
Harry's book "Spare" has garnered attention around the world with its disclosures about his personal struggles and its accusations about other royals, including his father King Charles, stepmother Camilla and elder brother Prince William. "I know perhaps some of the things he says have rubbed different people the wrong way," Lai Jiang told Reuters after buying a copy in Singapore. The royal family has not commented on the book or the interviews and is unlikely to do so. While Harry's revelations have dominated the headlines in the British media over the last week, the interest in his disclosures is far from universal. At the heart of Harry and Meghan's narrative is that Britain's sensationalist popular press is a "devil" that members of the royal family have colluded with to protect or enhance their own reputations. The royal family have been here before, though. "That said, you could argue it only reinforces the victim narrative from Harry and Meghan in America," the former aide said. "The one thing the royal family has on its side is time. So it can play the long game - which Harry and Meghan maybe can't, in that they have to be telling their story now."

"There was a motto, a family motto of 'never complain, never explain'. There was a lot of complaining and there was a lot of explaining and it continues now. "But the moment that that rehabilitation comes at the detriment of others, me, other members of my family, then that's where I draw the line." "But the day that she died was just a really, really horrible reaction from my family members." Maybe that's lofty, maybe that's naive, whatever.
"The moment that that rehabilitation comes at the detriment of others, me, other members of my family, then that's where I draw the line." Harry said he didn't think his father or brother would read his book. Harry told ITV he wanted reconciliation with his family members but said they had shown no interest, giving the impression it was better to keep him and Meghan as villains. "My father said to me that it was probably a suicide mission to try and change the press," he said. However, in the age of Apaches and laptops, everything I did in the course of two tours of duty was recorded and time-stamped,” Harry writes. The disagreement came at a planned reconciliatory tea at Kensington Palace in June 2018, Harry writes. According to the book, Kate told Meghan: “You talked about my hormones. We are not close enough for you to talk about my hormones!”According to Harry, Meghan recalled the conversation but was perplexed at Kate's reaction. Harry writes: "What I do remember with stunning clarity is that I did not cry.
