Starbucks is reversing a push into frequent promos on drinks and snacks, The Wall Street Journal said. It's part of CEO Brian Niccol's effort to reestablish the brand's upscale, premium vibe, it added. Narasimhan said on an earnings call earlier this year that 60% of the company's sales were from the nearly 34 million Starbucks Rewards members. Multiple baristas previously told BI that the size and frequency of rewards deals were getting out of hand. In curbing its discounts, Starbucks is bucking a wider retail trend that has seen companies such as McDonald's, PepsiCo, and Walmart cut prices.

In this 2004 photo, then-District Attorney Kamala Harris waits for a proceeding to convene in San Francisco. The long-standing problem of racial inequities in the criminal justice system is among the issues that prompted Harris to become a prosecutor in the first place. “I grew up knowing about the disparities, inequities, and unfairness in the criminal justice system,” Harris said during a 2019 town hall hosted by MSNBC. And I am proud of the work that I did.”As a prosecutor, Harris adopted what she called a “smart on crime” approach to law enforcement. Her cautious stance on the issue frustrated many advocates of criminal justice reform, including those who expressed support for Harris on other issues.

Job seekers often face a tougher tech job market; firms are demanding more entry-level roles. Last spring, my friends and I accidentally rented an electric car on a trip to Italy. I hopped on Google to figure out how people manage life with electric cars when they take so long to charge. A high-voltage charger would take just 30 minutes to get our car's battery to 80%. AdvertisementAfter seeing our confused faces, she clarified that we were getting an electric car. Our car's battery was nearly dead, so we figured we might as well take advantage of the forced stop and explore the town.

Workers say they're struggling with mobile ordersEven former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz said in a May LinkedIn post that current Starbucks leadership should "reinvent the mobile ordering and payment platform." "We believe a visit to Starbucks should be effortless and delightful, whether ordering through the Starbucks app or at our stores." Still, some workers — whom the company calls "partners" — have pointed to issues with the mobile ordering system in interviews with BI. Starbucks' rewards program is a big driver of all those digital orders, a partner at a Starbucks store in South Dakota told BI. "They deserve to have that moment where things are corrected and they're leaving happy, but we can't deliver on it always," the partner told BI.

If these games played an important part in your childhood, Japan’s long-awaited new Nintendo Museum is a must-visit. Opened to the public on October 2, the interactive space is set in the video game company’s former factory complex in Uji, about an hour south of the city of Kyoto. Spread across three main buildings, the Nintendo Museum leads visitors through the company’s 135-year history with an exhaustive exhibition that includes rare consoles and prototypes, interactive games, experiences and even a themed burger restaurant. Meanwhile, “Big Controller” lets players collaborate and play classic Nintendo games on, as the name suggests, oversized controllers designed to look like the originals from consoles like Wii and Famicom. That said, everyone seemed to agree that the days of logo-forward purchases and other conspicuous signs of wealth are over — even on Wall Street. The industry's movers and shakers are still into name brands but are leaning into those that exude "quiet luxury." And where there are celebrities and influencers, there tend to be Wall Street dealmakers. It's not surprising that high-earners on Wall Street would have second homes (or, in many cases, multiple). Hezbollah was formed more than a decade earlier, by Lebanese fighters resisting Israel's invasion. It came after Israel detonated explosions across Lebanon targeting Hezbollah fighters. Days before he was killed, Nasrallah vowed to continue striking Israeli positions until Israel’s offensive in Gaza ends. Fears of an all-out war peaked earlier this month, after Israel unleashed a wave of lethal explosions across Lebanon targeting Hezbollah fighters.
