OpenAI is reportedly teaming up with Broadcom and TSMC to build custom AI chips, per Reuters. OpenAI could have its custom chips by 2026 but is reportedly dropping plans to build its own fabs. Mark Zuckerberg says Meta's Llama 4 AI models are training on the biggest GPU cluster in the industry. During Meta's earnings call, he said the cluster is "bigger than 100,000 H100s." A lot of computing power is going into training Meta's forthcoming Llama 4 AI models — more than anything currently offered by the competition, according to Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg added in the earnings call Wednesday that Meta's Llama 4 models will have "new modalities, capabilities, stronger reasoning" and be "much faster." Meanwhile, Musk tweeted earlier this week that xAI will soon double its cluster size in the coming months to 200,000 H100 and H200 chips.

But when it comes to technology, one of the most powerful people shaping regulation isn't a candidate at all. Altman, the OpenAI co-founder and CEO, meanwhile, has put on a masterclass in wooing Washington, learning from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and social media's missteps in front of Congress. Lawmakers have now begun embracing AI in a way they never did social media. That new messaging on AI regulation is largely thanks to Altman turning OpenAI into a lobbying powerhouse. Now, he's bringing his playbook to OpenAI, where his message to Washington is that if the U.S. doesn't lead the way in AI, an autocratic nation like China will.

Meta has been so quick to build out its massive data center and computing infrastructure for artificial intelligence projects that CEO Mark Zuckerberg is even a bit surprised. In a call with analysts on Wednesday after Meta's third-quarter earnings report, Zuckerberg explained to investors how Meta's rising costs for the year are tied to the speed at which employees are able to get data centers, servers and chips for AI up and running.
