President Biden requested an additional $106 billion to the DoD budget, citing the Israel-Hamas war and other global conflicts. The CEO of military contractor RTX said Tuesday the company could "benefit" from an increased DoD budget. RTX Corporation, formerly known as Raytheon, is a long-time US defense contractor which has worked on supplying Israel's Iron Dome since 2014. Liwag asked how quickly RTX Corporation, formerly known as Raytheon Corporation, could profit if Congress approves President Biden's request for a DoD budget increase in 2024. He called the budget request "a smart investment" in American security and emphasized the need to support Israel's Iron Dome.

Viet Dinh, former Chief Legal and Policy Officer for Fox Corporation. Dinh said Davis issued “really illogical” rulings in the pretrial phase, which “hamstrung” Fox’s defense strategy. Dominion made many of these messages public through court filings, and they painted an incredibly damning picture of Fox News.

CNN —Rupert Murdoch’s reign over the insidious right-wing media kingdom he forged into existence over a decades-long career is coming to a close. Murdoch is a strategic thinker and ruthless businessman, who would have given the timing of his exit immense thought. Is the announcement an indication that Murdoch is attempting to further cement his son, Lachlan, as his successor? The other question is: How will this transition impact the organization of Murdoch’s companies? And the biggest question of all: Does Murdoch have some additional surprises left up his sleeve?

Rupert Murdoch, one of the most powerful media tycoons of the modern era, is stepping down as chairman of Fox Corporation and News Corporation at the age of 92 and handing the reins to his 52-year-old son. The takeover planning appeared to begin in 2015, when Rupert named Lachlan and his brother James Murdoch as co-chairmen of 21st Century Fox. James later left the company, and Lachlan became CEO of the Fox Corporation in 2019, following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox. With his father’s departure, Lachlan will become the sole chairman of both Fox and News, after having co-chaired the company for years. It’s unclear whether right-wing cable network’s pro-Trump rhetoric will change with Lachlan Murdoch more fully in the driver’s seat.

It's now a massive multimedia empire that spans the globe and includes TV, online, film and print interests. Murdoch, 92, owns hundreds of publishing outlets across the world and is one of the richest and most powerful people in the world. In the forthcoming book, a copy of which CNN obtained in advance of its release, Wolff makes a number of shocking and explosive claims. Suzanne Scott feared she would lose her job as chief executive of Fox News amid the Dominion lawsuit, he reports. And Fox sources tell me that Wolff made no attempt to fact check his book with either Fox News or its parent company, Fox Corporation. With Fox News, where an author might be basing major claims using less-than-reliable sources, the risks are more pronounced, making such reporting efforts even more paramount. Fox News, for its part, is choosing not to respond to the specific claims Wolff makes in the book.

The State of Oregon, representing Oregon’s public employees retirement fund, joined the New York City funds in their lawsuit against Fox. The lawsuit, which was filed in Delaware, was shared with The New York Times. It will remain under seal at the court for five days to allow time for redactions before it is made public. The board includes the media mogul Rupert Murdoch and his son Lachlan Murdoch, who control the company. Fox has faced numerous legal battles in the wake of its promotion of election conspiracy theories.

Fox, which has maintained it is proud of its dishonest 2020 election coverage, still faces an even larger, $2.7 billion lawsuit from election technology company Smartmatic. That is the crux of our lawsuit, and we look forward to making our case in court.”A spokesperson for Fox Corporation declined to comment on the lawsuit. A spokesperson for the New York City Comptroller’s office said the pension funds held 857,000 shares of Fox Corporation stock valued at $28.10 million. Fox Corporation, led by Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch, has kept the current Fox News leadership team that oversaw the network’s lie-filled 2020 coverage in place. Earlier this year, Fox News settled a defamation case with a Venezuelan businessman who had filed a lawsuit against the company over its 2020 election coverage.

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City's pension funds and the state of Oregon sued Fox Corporation on Tuesday, alleging the company harmed investors by allowing Fox News to broadcast falsehoods about the 2020 election that exposed the network to defamation lawsuits. New York City's pension funds are long-term shareholders of Fox Corporation, with shares valued at $28.1 million as of the end of July. In a statement, Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum said the Fox breached its fiduciary duties by disregarding legal risks. “The directors’ choices exposed themselves and the company to liability and exposed their shareholders to significant risks," she said. “That is the crux of our lawsuit, and we look forward to making our case in court.”

CNN —It’s a carriage fight that could lead to the dismantling — or revolution — of the cable television bundle. Charter argues that it is paying a premium for Disney content ($2.2 billion in 2023), but that much of the first-class, buzzy content is actually on platforms like Disney+, not the linear channels. And it says it has proposed “creative ways” to make Disney’s DTC offerings available to Charter subscribers. But, in Disney’s eyes, why would it give away access to its expensive DTC content at no additional cost to Charter subscribers? “The Walt Disney Company and Charter have the opportunity to work together on transforming the industry for the long-term benefit of both companies and their customers,” Charter said.

The former president has told aides that he has made up his mind not to participate in the debate and has decided to post an online interview with Tucker Carlson that night instead, according to people briefed on the matter. Upstaging Fox’s biggest event of the year would be provocation enough. The decision is a potential source of aggravation for the Republican National Committee chairwoman, Ronna McDaniel, who privately urged him to attend, including in her own visit to Bedminster last month. But Mr. Trump’s primary motive in skipping the debate is not personal animosity toward Ms. McDaniel but a crass political calculation: He doesn’t want to risk his giant lead in a Republican race that some close to him believe he must win to stay out of prison. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak for the campaign.

Fox Corporation’s chief legal officer, Viet Dinh, is departing, the company announced on Friday, in a major shake-up at the company after the landmark $787.5 million settlement it paid to Dominion Voting Systems in April. Mr. Dinh, a former official in the George W. Bush White House who amassed considerable power inside Fox, will stay on through the rest of the year, Fox said. Mr. Dinh gave what some inside the company considered flawed advice during the Dominion suit, which exposed a pattern of deceptive coverage by Fox News after the 2020 election. He insisted that Fox was on firm legal footing and could take the case, if need be, all the way to the Supreme Court, where he believed the company would prevail on First Amendment grounds. CNN —Fox Corporation on Friday said its top lawyer, Viet Dinh, will exit the company in a significant shakeup to its corporate ranks in the aftermath of the company’s historic $787 million settlement with election technology company Dominion Voting Systems. Dinh is the latest senior executive to depart after the historic Dominion settlement. Days after Fox settled the lawsuit with Dominion early this year, the company fired its star prime time host, the right-wing extremist Tucker Carlson. Dominion is just one of several high-profile lawsuits Fox has settled this year over its airing of false election conspiracy theories in 2020. The Dublin-based company said this made it the first online betting operator to turn a profit in the U.S and it did so six months ahead of schedule. Analysts at JPMorgan also noted a more cautious outlook on Australia, where Flutter's first half revenues fell by 1%. The U.S. profits contributed to reported EBITDA of 765 million pounds across the group, versus the 731 million pounds forecast by eight analyst polled by Refinitiv. Flutter and broadcaster Fox Corporation (FOXA.O) said last month it would close the FOX Bet sports betting platform. That would eclipse the record full year earnings of 1.4 billion pounds Flutter posted during the COVID-19 online betting boom of 2020.

CNN —The White House is disgusted with Fox News — even more so than usual. Which is why, perhaps, the White House felt the need to formally respond, even though, typically, the Biden administration opts not to get in the mud with the network. After the discovery of one particularly incendiary text from Mr. Carlson, the Fox Corporation board decided to begin an internal investigation into his conduct. Mr. Carlson’s cancellation — he is still an employee of Fox unless the network decides to let him out of his contract — has upended Fox’s lucrative and popular prime-time lineup. Roughly one-third of its prime-time audience has tuned out since Mr. Carlson was taken off the air. Mr. Carlson’s lawyers have argued that Fox News breached its contract with Mr. Carlson first, in part by failing to prevent his private messages from being disclosed. The former Fox host also believes his Twitter show is protected speech under the First Amendment, according to a person with knowledge of Mr. Carlson’s legal strategy.
