Again, not to predetermine or predispose the speaker, I just don't know how many gay people he knows. Marjorie Taylor Greene said she voted against him in part because he voted for the "Democrat gay marriage bill." So you're out of step, you're out of line, Marjorie, if you've got a problem with gay marriage. I don't think during that time, President Obama or then-Vice President Biden were supportive of LGBT equality. I'm not surprised it tracks with where he is on gay marriage, it tracks with where he is on LGBT acceptance issues in society.

The man who was accused of attacking Nancy Pelosi's husband with a hammer was convicted on Thursday. The October 2022 attack on 82-year-old Paul Pelosi was captured on police body camera footage. The attack on then-82-year-old Paul Pelosi that was captured on police body camera video just days before last year's midterm elections sent shockwaves through the political world. A state trial date will be set during a Nov. 29 hearing, said Randy Quezada, a spokesperson for the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. DePape testified that his plan was to get Nancy Pelosi to admit that she had been lying to the American people.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Defense attorneys for David DePape, the man on trial for the attack of former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband in the couple's San Francisco home, will call witnesses Tuesday as they argue DePape is not guilty of the crimes he's been charged with. Defense attorney Jodi Linker told jurors last week that she won’t dispute that DePape attacked Pelosi. She said that means the charges that DePape was trying to interfere with Nancy Pelosi’s official duties don’t fit. After his arrest, DePape, 43, allegedly told a San Francisco detective that he wanted to hold Nancy Pelosi hostage. Defense attorneys have listed four possible witnesses: Daniel Bernal, Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco chief of staff; extremism and antisemitism researcher Elizabeth Yates; federal public defender Catherine Goulet; and one unidentified witness.

The fight over return-to-office is getting dirty

Evidence is as evidence doesAs the return-to-office battle has heated up in the past six months, there has been a marked increase in declarations that remote work is less productive. The researchers determined that remote workers were 18% less productive than their in-person counterparts. Just the vibesDespite the limited evidence against it, corporations are increasingly trying to kill remote work. That's what makes the move to kill off remote work so frustrating. It's not clear that the return-to-office move is about making workers more productive or building a better culture.

Hezbollah’s Nasrallah Fans Flames of Wider War

Secretary of State Antony Blinken pressed Israel on Friday for a humanitarian pause in Gaza to provide relief to Palestinian civilians as worries of a wider Middle East war mount. Asked Friday what his message was to Americans in Gaza, Biden told reporters at the White House, "They'll be coming home." He did not respond to a question about whether he could contain a wider war. Nasrallah said the fighting along the border was weakening Israel and "deterring the enemy" by drawing resources away from Gaza. Biden has also called for justice for Palestinian civilians – and recently, under political pressure from his own Democratic Party, called for the humanitarian pause.

I spoke with veteran market watcher Tom McClellan, editor of the McClellan Market Report. It is seasonal factors, which are behaving almost exactly to the script. Is the market weakness mostly due to seasonal factors? That's happening right now, so that's getting cited in the news as the coincident factors but it's not really related. But that's not a good explanation anymore because farming is such a small portion of the economy, and yet the seasonal factors still work.

LONDON, Sept 25 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Western countries have a window of opportunity to come up with a credible infrastructure plan for the developing world. U.S. President Joe Biden has been talking up the West’s so-called Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII). To be fair, the G7 is stepping up efforts to involve the private sector. These initiatives are running in parallel with efforts to get the World Bank to cooperate more with the private sector. For developing countries, it is good to have two rival infrastructure initiatives competing for their attention.

Ignore the Fed's warning that interest rates may stay higher for longer, David Rosenberg said. The Fed misjudged the dot-com and housing bubbles as well as the inflation spike last year, he said. However, investors should ignore his messaging given the central bank's long history of getting things wrong, David Rosenberg says. Rosenberg was highlighting that, only two years ago, the Fed expected its benchmark interest rate to be under 1% at the end of 2023. The veteran economist has repeatedly sounded the alarm on the delayed impact of raising interest rates.

Over the course of three conversations this summer, Acemoglu told me he's worried we're currently hurtling down a road that will end in catastrophe. "There's a fair likelihood that if we don't do a course correction, we're going to have a truly two-tier system," Acemoglu told me. "I was following the canon of economic models, and in all of these models, technological change is the main mover of GDP per capita and wages," Acemoglu told me. If you’re flying with Japan Airlines, the answer could be nothing at all. Called Any Wear, Anywhere, the service runs through the end of August 2024 and Japan Airlines says it could cut carbon emissions by reducing the weight carried by its airplanes. The true impact of the trial will only be revealed at the end, once Japan Airlines tallies the weight savings and calculates the exact reduction in emissions. However, Japan Airlines must be able to see a statistically significant reduction in baggage weight, says Gary Crichlow, an aviation analyst at consulting firm AviationValues. Moriya shares this ambition and hopes to expand the partnership with Japan Airlines to other members of the OneWorld Alliance, which includes American Airlines, British Airways and Quantas – and then to other alliances.

The one job AI should actually replace: CEOs

The only job that seems to be safe from the rise of ChatGPT and other AI tech is, oddly enough, the most expensive and easily automated role: CEO. Let's replace our CEOs with AI. Actually, AI is too advanced for that job, all you need is a Fisher Price tape recorder loaded up with a bad bunch of ideas." What better way can we hold a chief executive accountable than making sure they actually execute? Or perhaps the chief executives need to be far more afraid of losing their jobs to equally capable robots.
