London CNN —Far-right riots swept Britain over the weekend, with outbreaks of anti-immigrant violence in a number of cities and towns, leaving the new UK government scrambling to control the worst disorder in more than a decade. Throughout Friday, Saturday and Sunday, violent protesters congregated in city and town centers across the UK, many of them apparently intent on clashing with police and causing havoc. The gatherings ostensibly started as anti-immigration marches, organized on social media platforms like X and on WhatsApp and Telegram groups. Violence also took place in Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Stoke-on-Trent and several more cities, mostly across the Midlands and north of England. A large group that the police say included supporters of the English Defence League, a far-right extremist organization, began attacking a mosque in Southport on Tuesday evening, according to a statement from the Merseyside Police Service, which covers the region. CNN —A large, pink, inflatable man, created by the Chinese contemporary artist Yue Minjun, has divided opinion in a small town in Wales. “The image represents the boredom of Chinese society during the rise of consumerism and economic reform in the early 1990s,” the centuries-old Ruthin School said in a post on Facebook. Yue’s work, in particular his many grinning self-portraits, have become among the most recognizable pieces of Chinese contemporary art. She said the school’s students “love it” are “really quite fond” of the large inflatable man. Another local resident told CNN the inflatable is “a bit odd for an art installation,” while a local barber aid opinions differed, explaining that he had heard both positive and negative reaction.

CNN —A surfer’s leg that was severed by a shark attack on Tuesday later washed up on an Australian beach, where a police officer retrieved it and put on ice. CNN affiliate 7News reported that Kai McKenzie, a 23-year-old surfer, was mauled by a shark in the water off North Shore Beach in Port Macquarie – a small town about 400 kilometers (249 miles) north of Sydney. The severed leg was also taken to the hospital in case doctors were able to reattach it, 7News reported. He is an inspiring person.”A long stretch of the beaches in Port Macquarie was closed for 24 hours after the shark attack, according to the town’s lifeguards, before they reopened on Wednesday afternoon.
