CNN —A two-level speakeasy in Mexico City’s hip Colonia Juarez neighborhood has been proclaimed the world’s best bar. Handshake Speakeasy clinched the title last night in Madrid, where a splashy awards ceremony was held by the World’s 50 Best association. The World’s 50 Best voters are a mix of industry professionals, including bartenders and food and drink writers. Named after a classic Japanese hairstyle, it was ranked the Best Bar in the Middle East and Africa this year. Take Los Angeles, where about three-quarters of residential-zoned land in 2021 was zoned exclusively for developing single-family housing. This country needs to build more homes, but there's no reason all those new homes need to look the same. Tokyo has homes in all shapes and sizes: detached single-family homes, attached row houses, small apartment buildings, midsize apartment buildings, and colossal residential high-rises. Allow apartment buildings with one staircase: Making it legal to build more apartment buildings with only one staircase would substantially reduce construction costs and allow for apartment buildings to be built on smaller lots. People who really like single-family homes should still have access to single-family homes.

CNN —Both the United States and Israel issued security alerts Wednesday warning of a potential attack on tourist locations in a coastal area of Sri Lanka. “The travel alert for Arugam Bay and the coastal areas in south and west Sri Lanka (including for the cities Ahangame, Galle, Hikkaduwa and Weligama) has been raised to level 4,” it stated. “We recommend leaving these areas immediately. There have been protests in Buddhist majority Sri Lanka against Israel’s war in Gaza. However, there have not been any major terrorist attacks in the nation since the 2019 Easter Sunday attack, when suicide bombers launched a coordinated series of attacks on three Catholic churches and three luxury hotels across Sri Lanka, killing 270 people and injuring 500 more.
