FIFA allocated the 2030 World Cup to Spain, Portugal and Morocco last week but also said Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay would host three matches to mark the tournament's centenary. Victor Matheson, sports economist at College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts, said the 2030 World Cup proposal was "extremely well done" on FIFA's part. BEER BACK ON TAPThe World Cup in Qatar also had to contend with strict controls on alcohol. Two days before the tournament kicked off, Budweiser, the official beer of the World Cup, had taps at stadiums turned off by Qatari officials. "Like it or not, that's what ends up happening and everyone in the end remembers how great Lionel Messi was and how Argentina won the World Cup," he said.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsBENGALURU, Oct 12 (Reuters) - India's central bank said on Thursday it has imposed a penalty of 53.9 million rupees ($647,762.58) on Paytm Payments Bank for non-compliance with some provisions, including Know Your Customer (KYC) directions. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Paytm Payments Bank had failed to identify beneficial owners of entities on-boarded by it for providing payout services. It also did not monitor payout transactions and carry out risk profiling of entities availing payout services, among others. The RBI had last year barred Paytm Payments Bank from taking on new customers and ordered a comprehensive audit of its IT systems, citing "material" supervisory concerns observed in the bank. Paytm Payments Bank had also breached the regulatory ceiling of end-of-the-day balance in certain customer advance accounts that were availing payout services, the central bank said in a statement.

Reuters —The death toll from flash floods unleashed by a glacial lake bursting its banks in India’s Himalayas climbed to 74 on Monday with 101 people still missing days after the calamity struck, according to provincial officials. An analysis of the images shows more than 60% of the water held in the lake drained out after the extreme rainstorm triggered a glacial lake outburst. This phenomenon happens when a glacial lake rises too high or the surrounding land or ice gives way and the lake bursts, sending water and debris rushing down mountains. In the 1990s, there were confident predictions that the internet and the web would disrupt the retailing, advertising and media industries. Aug 28 (Reuters) - Danaher Corp (DHR.N) said on Monday it would buy smaller rival Abcam Plc in an all-cash deal valued at $5.7 billion including debt, as the medical tools supplier expands its services to capture bigger contracts. The deal will help Danaher cushion the hit from sluggish demand for its products such as antibodies and sample preparation equipment from smaller biotech companies that are grappling with a funding crunch. Danaher, one of the world's largest suppliers of medical tools, has already cut its annual sales growth forecast multiple times this year. Taurine, an amino acid that humans produce naturally, is the latest anti-aging supplement that shows potential for increasing longevity. Though taurine levels naturally decline as you age, new research suggests that supplementing taurine may slow down, or reverse, aging in older animals like worms, mice and monkeys. A research paper, published this June in the journal Science, found that daily supplements of taurine increased the lifespan of mice and worms by at least 10%. Mice that received taurine supplements each day lived 10% to 12% longer than mice that didn't. Still, the scientists noticed very positive changes to the monkeys' immune systems, blood-sugar levels, weight and bone health, according to BBC News.

A new group of startups are helping children with conditions like autism and ADHD learn in schools. And neurodivergent students that require special education assistance and mental health support are behind the learning curve. Staffing qualified special education teachers has also become a problem for schools. As more districts look for solutions that can help address these problems, startups can be the ones offering the tools. MUMBAI, July 31 (Reuters) - Indian rice exporters have been receiving requests from buyers to advance shipments of basmati rice after New Delhi banned exports of non-basmati white rice to dampen local prices, industry officials told Reuters. "Buyers are requesting early shipments because they fear that the government might put restrictions on exports of basmati rice as well," said Atul Garg, managing director at GRM Overseas (GRMO.NS), a leading exporter of basmati rice. Non-basmati white rice, which India has banned for export, is mainly purchased by Senegal, Benin, Togo, Bangladesh, and Cote d'Ivoire. India never banned exports of basmati rice in the past but did impose export taxes in 2008. But basmati rice growing areas have increased in 2023 and production is likely to be higher than last year, said Vijay Setia, an exporter.
