LONDON, Jan 24 (Reuters) - Barclays (BARC.L) has appointed former Credit Suisse (CSGN.S) dealmaker Cathal Deasy as co-head of investment banking, the lender said on Tuesday, as Chief Executive C.S. Deasy left Credit Suisse a few weeks ago, just months after being promoted to regional co-head of its investment banking & capital markets (IBCM) unit. JF Astier and John Miller, who currently lead investment banking, are in "active dialogue" with Barclays about what roles they might now take, a Barclays spokesperson said. Astier and Miller were promoted in 2021 to lead investment banking as part of a new management team. Barclays' investment bank has had a strong performance in recent quarters, thanks in part to a boom in fixed income trading, which has traditionally been one of its core strengths.

Barclays appoints Currie as chief operating officer

LONDON, Dec 7 (Reuters) - Barclays (BARC.L) said it has appointed Alistair Currie as its chief operating officer on Wednesday, as CEO C.S. Currie replaces Mark Ashton-Rigby, who will step down and advise the bank on a part-time basis. Currie had headed the lender's consumer banking and payments business, and will be replaced in that role by Vim Maru, who joins from Lloyds Banking Group. The changes come at a time when Barclays' executive committee of senior managers has taken on increased prominence in the running of the bank, while Venkatakrishnan is treated for cancer. New chief operating officer Currie will in addition to that role take on the running of BX, the bank's name for its firm-wide company providing technology and other support services to all parts of the business.

BENGALURU, Dec 5 (Reuters) - Indian billionaire Gautam Adani's conglomerate on Monday raised its stake in New Delhi Television Ltd (NDTV.NS) to more than 37% through an open offer, making it the biggest shareholder of one of the country's most popular news networks. Although Adani's group was looking to take another 26% stake in NDTV, the open offer attracted bids for just 5.3 million shares, translating to an 8.3% interest in the company. Last week, Adani acquired a stake of about 29.2% in NDTV by buying a company backed by the television network's founders, Radhika Roy and Prannoy Roy, who have a 32.3% stake in NDTV. In the open offer that concluded Monday, corporate investors tendered 3.9 million shares, while retail investors offered to sell over 706,000 shares. BENGALURU, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (9988.HK) plans to sell a stake of about 3% in Indian food delivery firm Zomato Ltd (ZOMT.NS) worth $200 million through a block deal, CNBC Awaaz reported on Tuesday, citing sources. The Chinese e-commerce giant, through its finance affiliate Ant Group (688688.SS), currently owns a 13.3% stake in Zomato, according to Refinitiv data. Alibaba and Zomato did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment. Venkatakrishnan, who is known as Venkat at the bank, said in a note to colleagues that he will begin undergoing treatment for Non-Hodgkin lymphoma at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Venkatakrishnan has held the top job at Barclays (BCS) for one year, taking over after the resignation of predecessor Jes Staley. Before joining Barclays in 2016, Venkatakrishnan worked in asset management and as an investment banker at JPMorgan Chase (JPM).
