On most Fridays, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London closes at 10 p.m. sharp. A cover of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by the indie-pop singer Perfume Genius echoed through the sculpture hall, soundtracking their tender moment. The nocturnal scene was a scripted one from “Red, White & Royal Blue,” the film adaptation of the 2019 novel by Casey McQuiston. “It was just the three of us and our crew,” said López, who’s also the film’s co-writer. Neither is publicly out, and their secret love complicates things, especially for Henry.

Earlier this year, Mr. Petrsoric, 78, was working alone around 10 p.m. when 60 or so people filed in after Broadway shows let out. He found himself going back into machine mode, a calm beacon of cocktail efficiency. He expressed his amazement, which Mr. Petrsoric subtly acknowledged, with a hand placed gently to his heart. While he appreciated the accolade, he gives the same polite treatment to the star-struck as to stars like Mr. Broderick, as well as cast members, directors, producers, lyricists and composers from nearby productions. CNN —When the Supreme Court cut affirmative action out of college admissions programs Thursday, it did not outlaw the goal of achieving diversity, but it set a new “race-neutral” standard for considering applicants. Justice Clarence Thomas, who wrote his own concurring opinion, uses the term “race neutral” repeatedly, offering it as an antidote to affirmative action. For more on this view, read this piece in The Atlantic by scholars Uma Jayakumar and Ibram Kendi: “‘Race Neutral’ Is the New ‘Separate but Equal.’”What have race-neutral admissions policies accomplished? They can, presumably, still utilize affirmative action even though they are the higher learning institutions over which the federal government has the most control. Multiple corporations – from Apple to IKEA – asked the Supreme Court to allow affirmative action to continue so that their potential workforce is more diverse.

The companies are the first to complete a multi-step approval process for cultivated meat that involves signoff from both the USDA and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. “It’s a giant step forward towards a more sustainable future — one that preserves choice and life.”The decision will make the United States the second country in the world, after Singapore, to authorize the production and sale of lab-grown meat. About 100 companies worldwide, including dozens in the United States, focus on the production of cultivated meat, according to Mr. Friedrich. Lab-grown meat begins with cells taken from an animal. When harvested, the product is essentially minced meat, which is then formed into patties, sausage or fillets. The meat contains no bones, feathers, beaks or hooves and does not need to be slaughtered.

Proponents of cultured meat say it's healthier and more environmentally friendly than traditional meat. As a result of the decision, the USDA will inspect cultured meat facilities, just as it does traditional meat processing plants and slaughterhouses. The meat produced by Upside Foods and Good Meat will be labeled as "cell-cultivated chicken" when sold to consumers. Chef Jose Andres has placed the first order to sell Good Meat's cultured chicken to serve it in an undisclosed Washington, D.C., restaurant, the company said. Even armed with cash and regulatory approval, cultured meat startups face many hurdles before their products can become mainstream.

On June 8, California-based Good Meat became the first company to receive the USDA label approval. Both Good and Upside are still awaiting a site inspection from USDA, the final step in the regulatory approval process before their cultivated chicken can go to market. Upside was the first company to receive a green light for its cultivated chicken from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration last year. Cultivated meat is made from a small sample of livestock cells collected from living animals, which are then fed a nutrient mix and grown inside steel vats.

Sixty-plus feet of red carpet and 24 steps was the gauntlet guests had to run — or walk — as the Cannes Film Festival began. That’s 60-plus feet to make an entrance, create a lasting moment, catch the eyes of the watching world. The red carpet is the show before the screening(s), and every year the crystals seem to get brighter, the skirts frothier, the accessories more dramatic. Whether it’s Fan Bingbing with tigers gamboling over the wilds of her gown, Uma Thurman in sweeping cardinal satin or Helen Mirren with hair dyed to match her ice-blue dress, there’s no denying part of the fun of the festival lies in the fashion follies before the films. (Now repeat that 10 times fast.)

Hong Kong CNN —China has approved 27 foreign video games, including titles to be released by Tencent, NetEase and Bilibili, as it gradually reopens the world’s largest mobile entertainment market to international titles. It was the second batch of foreign games to be allowed to enter the Chinese market since December. Bilibili (BILI) will publish the localized version of “Uma Musume: Pretty Derby,” a hugely popular franchise from Japan’s Cygames. “We believe this implies a more supportive regulatory policy towards foreign titles that further support a healthier and normalized development of online gaming industry going forward,” said Citi analysts on Tuesday. But foreign games were still unable to access the Chinese market until December, when the regulator finally approved 45 foreign titles, including “Pokémon Unite” by Nintendo and “Valorant” by Riot Games.
Neglecting your brain health can make you vulnerable to degenerative brain diseases like Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. As a neuroscientist, I've spent decades guiding patients with memory problems through brain-enhancing habits and exercises — many of which I practice, too. Here are seven brain rules I follow to keep my memory sharp as a whip:1. Eat brain foods. Get in the habit of converting anything which you find hard to remember into a wild, bizarre or otherwise attention grabbing image.
But to reach its ultimate destination - supermarket shelves - cultivated meat faces big obstacles, five executives told Reuters. California-based cultivated meat company GOOD Meat already has an application pending with the FDA, which has not been previously reported. Regulatory approval is just the first hurdle for making cultivated meat accessible to a broad swath of consumers, executives at UPSIDE, Mosa Meat, Believer Meats, and GOOD Meat told Reuters. But it will take hundreds of millions of dollars for GOOD Meat, for example, to build bioreactors of the size needed to make its meat at scale, Tetrick said. But cultivated meat companies have the advantage that they can claim their product is real meat, Tetrick said.

The volcano alert level was raised to 'Red' after an evaluation of the eruption and associated hazards, the notice said. USGS said the volcanic gas, which consists of sulphur dioxide and other gases, could produce a visible haze of volcanic smog, known as 'vog', which has been observed in the downwind of Kilauea. Known to be the younger and more active neighbor of Mauna Loa, which erupted in November for the first time since 1984, the Kilauea volcano has been erupting since 2021. However, Mauna Loa's eruption has had no impact and remains quiet, USGS said.

Broken up sea ice is seen from the window of a NASA research flight above the east coast of Greenland. That's causing Arctic sea ice to diminish, the tundra to turn green with vegetation, and sea birds to starve to death in droves. Sean Gallup/Getty ImagesFor the first time this year, NOAA has determined that Arctic precipitation — either rain or snow — is increasing across all seasons. But in places like southwest Alaska, that means rain falling on top of snow, then freezing. Jennifer Lawrence is sparking backlash after falsely claiming to be the first woman in the lead of an action movie. Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games." Others said while Lawrence's comment was technically incorrect, she accurately pointed to a larger issue of gender bias in Hollywood. "It is untrue that no one had ever put a woman in an action movie before Jennifer Lawrence in Hunger Games," Franklin Leonard, producer and founder of "The Black List," a platform for film and TV writers, said in a tweet. "It is absolutely true that Hollywood had and has a real bias against women driven action movies because of this ridiculous belief about who identifies with whom."
CNN —Jennifer Lawrence shared her thoughts on the history of female-led action movies in a new interview, but the “Hunger Games” star is getting some flack for not quite getting it right. The Oscar winner spoke with fellow actress Viola Davis in an interview for Variety published on Wednesday, in which she mused on the past state of action movies with a female lead. People on social media were quick to point out, however, that Lawrence was far from the first female action hero, with many tweets referencing Sigourney Weaver in the “Alien” franchise, Linda Hamilton in the “Terminator” movies and Pam Grier in films like “Foxy Brown” – all of which predate “The Hunger Games” franchise. “It is absolutely true that Hollywood had and has a real bias against women driven action movies because of this ridiculous belief about who identifies with whom.”Other examples brought to light in comments on Twitter and beyond pointed to Michelle Yeoh in “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and other films, Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez in the “Resident Evil” franchise, Uma Thurman in “Kill Bill” and Angelina Jolie in the “Tomb Raider” movies. CNN has reached out to representatives of Jennifer Lawrence for clarification on her statement.
American Airlines is closing its San Francisco base, potentially displacing 400 flight attendants. The base is home to some of the carrier's most senior flight attendants, two-thirds of whom have been at the airline for 13 years or more, according to the union representing American Airlines flight attendants. In interviews, 10 SFO-based flight attendants told Insider that a myriad of factors make it difficult to leave the Bay Area. The decades of experience with the goal of achieving that lifestyle are now effectively lost, one flight attendant told Insider. Some employees expressed confusion on why they need to leave San Francisco if the carrier will still need to staff SFO flights.
Excess consumption of omega-6s can trigger the body to produce chemicals that can lead to inflammation in the brain. Foods with added and refined sugarsOur brain uses energy in the form of glucose, a type of sugar, to fuel cellular activities. But a high sugar diet can lead to excess glucose in the brain. This can cause memory impairments and less plasticity of the hippocampus, the part of the brain that controls memory. Processed foodsA diet high in ultra-processed foods may put you at risk of having shorter telomeres — or the "cap" on our DNA.
