Although the Teamsters claim to represent 7,000 Amazon workers nationwide, that accounts for less than 1% of the company’s US workforce. Strike authorization votes are often approved, even if the union members never actually go on strike. While an upstart union, the Amazon Labor Union won such a vote at Amazon’s Staten Island facility in April 2022. Many of the 7,000 Teamsters that the union refers to as “Amazon employees,” however, are drivers for independent contractors making deliveries for Amazon and no one else. Those drivers are based at seven different Amazon facilities, including those who authorized strikes in Queens and Skokie.

The planned investment will come from Son’s SoftBank Group, which, despite its name, is not a bank — more of a sprawling global tech investing company. Before Trump began his first term, the Japanese conglomerate committed to a $50 billion investment with grand promises of creating 50,000 new jobs. Included in that investment: a satellite startup called OneWeb, which at the time was seen as a competitor to Elon Musk’s Starlink. Bottom line: Son’s investment strategy may not always be on point, but Monday’s announcement was not a typical investment. Son is just the latest in a parade of billionaires who’ve been vying for Trump’s attention and affection.

Buying an S&P 500 index fund has long been considered an easy way to gain broad market exposure and diversification. In the past, the largest sector in the S&P 500 has typically made up less than 20% of the index. As a result, when investors buy the S&P 500 index, they become overexposed to growth by default. That's where value investing comes in, he said, as value stocks provide diversification on both fronts. Growth stocks are mainly found in the technology, consumer discretionary, and communication services sectors," Jesch wrote in a recent note.

Now, Americans may have to actually brace for stagflation — something the nation’s economy hasn’t experienced in over half a century. Just over a month from now, Trump will have the power to levy tariffs on other nations at the flick of a pen. When the Fed responded to high levels of unemployment in the 1970s by cutting rates to relieve pressure businesses faced, it later had to contend with higher inflation. The path to stagflationThe tariffs Trump has floated aren’t inherently inflationary, Michael Feroli, chief US economist at JPMorgan, told CNN. But higher tariffs can quickly fuel cascades of price increases if Americans expect higher inflation because of them and demand higher wages, which, in turn, could result in businesses continuing to raise prices.

The stock market may be able to enjoy its typical year-end melt-up once Wednesday's Federal Reserve decision is over, according to Bank of America. The central bank is widely expected to lower its benchmark interest rate by a quarter-percentage point on Wednesday. Gonzalo Asis, an equity-linked analyst at Bank of America, said in a note to clients that the move may clear the way for the so-called "Santa rally." Many on Wall Street are expecting the Fed to project fewer rate cuts over time than it did during the previous dot plot release in September. Additionally, we expect the dot to show two cuts in 2026 and for the long-run to be revised up to 3.125% from 2.9%," the Bank of America note said.

Market strategists at major ETF firms are optimistic about the stock market rally continuing in 2025, expecting large tech stocks to keep generating solid earnings and stave off valuation concerns in the near term. However, as the horizon extends, growth and earnings impacts diminish, with valuations eventually dominating returns as a 'fundamental gravity,'" the Vanguard outlook said. Over the next decade, we expect 4.3%–5.3% annualized returns for both U.S. and global ex-U.S. currency-hedged bonds," the Vanguard outlook said. The iShares U.S. Equity Factor Rotation Active ETF (DYNF) , for example, has outperformed the S & P 500 in 2024.
