Israel stepped up its ground and air offensive in the Gaza Strip overnight, rejecting the United Nations' demand for a humanitarian truce.
"We reject outright the UN General Assembly despicable call for a ceasefire," Foreign Minister Eli Cohen said in a social media post on X, vowing to "eliminate Hamas."
Overnight, Gaza saw "the heaviest and most sustained bombardment" to date, according to NBC News.
Inside the besieged territory, one NBC crew member said it was "very dangerous everywhere," amid extensive shelling and bombings from above and on the ground.
Communications with those inside Gaza have been cut off with a near-total blackout of internet and mobile phone services.
