Bernie Moreno is hoping to unseat Sen. Sherrod Brown in a race that will help decide Senate control. Now, his campaign is deploying anti-recording technology against "trackers" who try to record him. Moreno's campaign acknowledged using an anti-recording device in a statement to BI but said the device was only being used against trackers, not regular event attendees. It's unclear exactly which device the Moreno campaign is using, but it resembles a microphone jammer available online for roughly $400. The former GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley even weighed in, writing on X: "Are you trying to lose the election?"

Republicans are making a last-ditch effort to flip Nevada's Senate seat, optimistic that a strong performance from former President Donald Trump in the state could boost Republican Senate candidate Sam Brown. Senate Leadership Fund, the main GOP super PAC involved in Senate races, is planning to spend $6.2 million on TV, radio and digital ads in Nevada, according to ad spending figures shared first with NBC News. SLF has spent tens of millions of dollars in other Senate battlegrounds in recent months. “It might be the best environment Republicans have seen in a presidential year in 20 years,” Nevada GOP strategist Jeremy Hughes recently told NBC News. Since Labor Day, Democrats have spent a combined $38.3 million on ads in Nevada, while Republicans have spent $27.6 million.

“We are a positive, inclusive brand, with a nice sensibility, very different from what they encountered in the past,” Fran Horowitz, now Abercrombie’s CEO, said in 2016. Today, Abercrombie’s stores are lighter than they once were and its clothes are looser. Abercrombie’s sales have grown and its stock has increased more than 400% since Jeffries stepped down as CEO. But retail analysts say that Abercrombie’s brand won’t be hurt by the indictment because of how much separation Abercrombie has been able to create from its former CEO. Older Abercrombie customers who remember the brand’s sexualized marketing have accepted Abercrombie’s rebrand, while a new generation of customers are too young to remember the old era.

But recent sales data from the auto-industry tracker Cox Automotive is worth examining ahead of Tesla's results on Wednesday. Tesla sold almost 17,000 Cybertrucks in the third quarter, Cox estimated, making it the third-most-popular EV in the US during the period. That's more than Ford's F-150 Lightning, Rivian's R1T, and Chevy's Silverado EV, Cox data shows. General Motors reported surprisingly solid results earlier this week and highlighted strong EV sales. CNN —More than 100 soccer players from the women’s game have signed an open letter to FIFA, urging the sport’s world governing body to end its sponsorship deal with Saudi oil and gas company Aramco. In April this year, FIFA announced a four-year global partnership with the majority state-owned oil giant, giving it sponsorship rights to the 2026 men’s World Cup and the 2027 Women’s World Cup. “The Saudi authorities trample not only on the rights of women, but on the freedom of all other citizens too,” the letter, addressed to FIFA president Gianni Infantino, said. Last year, it produced an average of 12.8 million barrels of oil a day, far more than any other company. US oil and gas companies combined, however, produce more than Saudi Arabia, according to a 2023 analysis from the US Energy Information Administration.

CNN —Already multitool smart devices, Apple Watches added another buzzworthy feature last month: an app to detect sleep apnea. The sleep apnea notification is available on the latest Series 10 Apple Watches and some older models after a software update. In order to detect sleep apnea, the watch measures breathing disturbances during sleep over 30 days. But the US Food and Drug Administration approved marketing of the sleep apnea feature on Apple Watches in mid-September. The Apple Watch has a few of these capabilities, but the company did not factor them into the sleep apnea feature.

The EU's NIS 2 cybersecurity directive sets a high benchmark for companies over their internal cybersecurity systems and practices. On Thursday, the new directive officially became enforceable by member states. However, most EU member states have yet to implement NIS 2 in their own respective national laws, meaning that enforcement is likely to be spotty. NIS 2 — or the Network and Information Security Directive 2 — is an EU directive that aims to increase the security of IT systems and networks across the bloc. Fladgate's Wright said that effectiveness of NIS 2 as a regulation will largely depend on consistent implementation and enforcement across EU member states.

Inside data brokers' massive vaultCybersecurity experts estimate that data brokers collect an average of 1,000 data points on each individual with an online presence. Little oversight around data privacyThe lack of comprehensive regulation around data privacy allows data brokers to operate with little oversight, unlike the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union. Opt-out links and instructions are readily available for most of the major data brokers: ExperianTransUnionLexisNexisEpsilon But data privacy experts says reclaiming or deleting your data from brokers can be a deliberately complex process that is not only time-consuming but frustrating. "With AI, data brokers will create even more detailed and predictive profiles, incorporating everything from biometric data to behavioral tracking," Abed said. Until regulation steps in, data brokers will continue to collect as much data as possible.

The company behind the game Cards Against Humanity is aiming to one-up Elon Musk with its plan to pay blue-leaning swing-state residents who make voting plans and agree to publicly condemn Donald Trump. On a website created by the game company, eligible voters are asked to provide their personal information, which is then checked against voter data that the company said it bought from a data broker. Cards Against Humanity is also selling a $7.99 card game expansion pack with cards themed to the election. Cards Against Humanity, a popular card game that features offensive and sexually explicit jokes, has increasingly taken a progressive political stance. The Cards Against Humanity website said it is “exploiting a legal loophole.” It also took aim at Musk directly, writing that registered swing-state voters could participate in his PAC's program and list Cards Against Humanity as their referrer — compelling Musk's PAC to send the company money.

Hurricane Milton has exploded into a monster storm as it soaks up its natural fuel, warm water, in the Gulf of Mexico. The National Hurricane Center had warned that Milton was likely to strengthen into a major hurricane, defined by minimum sustained winds of 111 mph, and its status was confirmed at 8 a.m. Monday. Up to 8 inches of rain was forecast, with storm surges of up to 15 feet possible for coastal cities, they said. The latest hurricane is a rare product of the southwest Gulf of Mexico, rather than the Caribbean or the Atlantic. Milton started as Tropical Depression 14, in the Gulf’s Bay of Campeche, sheltered behind the western coast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula.
