2 Michigan announced Friday that it has suspended a low-level football program employee a day after disclosing it is under NCAA investigation for allegedly stealing the play-calling signals used by Wolverines opponents. Athletic director Warde Manuel issued a one-sentence statement saying that Connor Stalions had been suspended with pay pending the conclusion of the NCAA investigation. Stalions had not been previously identified by the school but was named in an ESPN report alleging he is a key figure in the probe. The Wolverines (7-0), who started their season with coach Jim Harbaugh serving a university-imposed three-game suspension for a still unresolved NCAA infractions case, play at Michigan State on Saturday. “I do not have any knowledge or information regarding the University of Michigan football program illegally stealing signals, nor have I directed any staff member or others to participate in an off-campus scouting assignment,” Harbaugh said.

CNN —Jim Abbott was used to dealing with uncomfortable social situations; in some ways, they were all he’d ever known. Abbott was about to pull off a no-hitter, one of the rarest feats in Major League Baseball. Baseball insiders will tell you that nobody ever sees a no-hitter coming, and that was certainly true for Jim Abbott. “I had some pretty serious anxiety about that game,” Abbott said in 2013. The Perfect Job for Jim Harbaugh

Look, my friends, I am not trying to be the athletic director of the University of Michigan, which, admittedly, is one of the top schools in all of Ann Arbor. Readers of this column know that this grumpy Badger doesn’t really care what happens to the Wolverines, especially now that Wisconsin has gone and hired their own fancy coach, and will soon return to greatness atop the Big Ten West, the guppy tank of Midwest Power 5 football.
Jim Harbaugh found himself on the hot seat following Michigan’s miserable 2-4 pandemic season, a year so bad he saw his salary cut nearly in half. So the Wolverines coach gave his team a makeover—but not the kind of glitzy revamp that focuses on explosive quarterbacks, dazzling receivers and high-scoring passing attacks. Harbaugh instead focused on building a powerful ground game in the image of the teams he had quarterbacked at Michigan in the 1980s under Bo Schembechler. To do that, he focused on methodically building an elite corps in some of football’s least glamorous jobs—the offensive line.
COLUMBUS, Ohio—The last time Michigan walked out of Ohio Stadium with a win, Cornelius Johnson was 11 days away from being born. His quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, didn’t arrive for over two more years. But under blue skies on Saturday, in front of a sea of scarlet, the 21-year-old receiver and 19-year-old quarterback emphatically slammed the door on two decades of misery as No. 2 Ohio State 45-23. They connected for two long touchdowns, as the Wolverines eventually capitalized on untimely Ohio State penalties and cracked a tight game wide open in the fourth quarter.
Security and police broke up a scuffle between players from Michigan and Michigan State after a game on Oct. 29. Seven Michigan State football players were criminally charged Wednesday in connection with an Oct. 29 altercation with Michigan players in the tunnel of Michigan Stadium following the Wolverines’ 29-7 victory. The allegations include a felony charge of assault against Khary Crump, according to a news release from the Washtenaw County prosecuting attorney.
