Mandatory Credit: David Banks-USA TODAY Sports Acquire Licensing RightsTORONTO, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Chicago Blackhawks rookie Connor Bedard skates into the spotlight when a new NHL season begins on Tuesday as Alexander Ovechkin looks to close in on one of hockey's treasured records and Canadians dream of an end to 30-year Stanley Cup drought. The season launches on three fronts with the Vegas Golden Knights raising their first Stanley Cup championship banner before taking on the Seattle Kraken while the Tampa Bay Lightning host the Nashville Predators. An Edmonton or Toronto win would end what has been a humbling 30-year Stanley Cup drought for hockey obsessed Canadians. On the ice the team has been an utter failure, last season winning their first playoff series in 19 years before meekly exiting in the next round.

The EPA also issued a proposal that aims to improve how HFCs are managed and reused, setting requirements for repairing leaky equipment, rules for using reclaimed HFCs and leak detection rules for large refrigeration equipment. The two regulatory actions come after the EPA issued a final rule in July phasing down the use of HFCs by 40% below historic levels from 2024 to 2028. Sept 29 (Reuters) - Air Canada (AC.TO) pilots staged a protest at Toronto's Pearson Airport on Friday, demanding better pay and benefits as talks over a new contract covering 4,500 pilots at Canada's largest carrier continue. We have to close the growing wage gap between us and our American counterparts," Chair of the governing body for the airline's pilots union Charlene Hudy told Reuters. Currently, the union is actively engaged in negotiations with Air Canada, and it anticipates that these discussions will persist throughout the entire month of October, Hudy added. "We are still early in the bargaining process and Air Canada remains engaged in productive discussions with ALPA," the carrier said on Friday. The pilots for the Montreal-based carrier, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) union, began bargaining for new labor terms this summer.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — It started as a crude sketch — a circle with a stick person inside. He and MSG Ventures CEO David Dibble were trying to create a plan to give the entertainment venue industry a facelift in Las Vegas. “That’s cool,” said Glenn NP Nowak, an architecture professor at the nearby University of Nevada, Las Vegas. However, the Sphere is the most expensive entertainment venue built in Las Vegas, eclipsing the approximately $1.9 billion, 65,000-seat Allegiant Stadium sports facility that opened in 2020. LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — The doping case involving teenage Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva that marred the 2022 Beijing Olympics returned to the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Tuesday. Awaiting the outcome are nine American skaters who could become Olympic champions in the team event after finishing second in Beijing behind Valieva and the Russians. The first Russian anti-doping tribunal to judge the case during the Olympics in February 2022 said Valieva and her legal team “intend to conduct further investigation and present the results” at future hearings in the case. The Russian anti-doping agency also joined the appeal and suggested a reprimand would do. Valieva has not skated internationally since Beijing because of an ISU ban on Russians following the country's invasion of Ukraine.

A Ryanair passenger fell down the aircraft steps while disembarking and broke her leg, per El Periódico. The budget airline has been ordered to pay her $33,000 in compensation. Local outlet Diario de Seville reported that the woman was holding the staircase handrail and carrying luggage when she suffered the "horrendous fall." That allows for the budget airline to save on airport fees for jet bridges or stair cars. But the judge at the Commercial Court of Seville said the Ryanair plane's staircase "was especially narrow and steep," per El Periódico.

REUTERS/Christinne Muschi/File PhotoMONTREAL, Aug 3 (Reuters) - Canada's Bombardier Inc (BBDb.TO) on Thursday reported better-than-expected quarterly profit and higher revenue despite supply chain pressures, helped by demand for flying and maintaining private planes. The Montreal-headquartered business jet maker reported a second-quarter profit of $10 million from continuing operations, compared with a loss of $109 million a year earlier. CEO Eric Martel told analysts that despite "pressure points" such as smaller suppliers, the supply chain is improving and will "remain a key area of focus for the foreseeable quarters". Brown | Afp | Getty ImagesIf you feel like record-level extreme weather events are happening with alarming frequency, you're not alone. Global warming is making extreme weather events more severe, scientists said. But what is clear is that climate change makes it more likely that an extreme weather event will happen. "Higher temperatures from climate change are indisputable, and with each degree increase we're multiplying our changes of getting an extreme heat wave. Decreasing the greenhouse gas emissions released into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels will help moderate the extreme weather trends.

Steven Schwartz, who used ChatGPT to write a legal brief, is pictured outside federal court in Manhattan on Thursday, June 8, 2023, in New York. A New York federal judge on Thursday sanctioned lawyers who submitted a legal brief written by the artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT, which included citations of non-existent court opinions and fake quotes.
