CNN —Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani suffered a shoulder injury before the Dodgers’ 4-2 win over the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the World Series Saturday. The Japanese slugger sustained a left shoulder subluxation and will undergo more testing, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the game, adding that the team is however “encouraged” about the injury. With the Dodgers up 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Ohtani attempted to steal second base but was thrown out to end the inning. Ohtani, however, stayed on the ground grimacing in pain and eventually walked off the field with trainers holding his left arm. The 2024 World Series showdown between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees begins Friday — a clash between two coasts and two rosters of star-studded players. The matchup features the titans of the National and American Leagues in 2024, along with Major League Baseball's most talented players, on two legendary franchises with historical baseball legacies. The comings and goings of Mamiko Tanaka and Ohtani are regular fodder for Japanese morning shows. In Japan, Ohtani is the face of countless advertising campaigns. O’Malley could not fathom that the Brooklyn Dodgers would move to Queens, so instead he set about moving the team to Los Angeles. The Dodgers named Valenzuela as part of the “Legends of Dodger Baseball” in 2019 and inducted him into the team’s Ring of Honor in 2023.

Tickets for the 2023 Series, in which the Texas Rangers clinched their first championship, cost about $776 on average across five games, TickPick said. The previous most expensive World Series was in 2016 between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland, when the average ticket cost $1,691. It’s also the first time in more than four decades that the Yankees and Dodgers will meet in the World Series, since a 1981 matchup.
