Feb 9 (Reuters) - The Brooklyn Nets have traded All-Star forward Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns in a swap deal that includes four other players and future first-round picks, American media reported on Thursday. While Harden was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, Irving moved to the Dallas Mavericks earlier this week, bringing the curtains down on Brooklyn's 'Big Three' experiment. Durant, 34, won back-to-back championships with the Golden State Warriors where he was also named NBA Finals MVP in both title-winning seasons. Both the Nets and the Suns are fifth in their respective conferences. ET on ThursdayReporting by Rohith Nair in Bengaluru; editing by Pritha SarkarOur Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.

  + stars: | 2023-02-09 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
The Suns add Durant to an underachieving squad that sits at 30-26, tied for fourth place in the Western Conference. The NBA trade deadline is Thursday. In 39 games this season, Durant is averaging 29.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists. He averaged 9.5 points and 2.8 rebounds for Brooklyn, well below his career norms of 15.1 points and four rebounds. As he heads to the eighth team in his NBA career, he has averages of 9.6 points and 4.3 rebounds.
After four seasons in which Kyrie Irving was often absent, occasionally brilliant, and always mercurial, the Brooklyn Nets have traded the embattled All-Star guard to the Dallas Mavericks, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban confirmed. The deal comes days before Thursday’s trade deadline and days after Irving reportedly requested a trade away from Brooklyn. The Nets, who are also trading forward Markieff Morris, will receive no All-Star in return; Dallas is sending back forward Dorian Finney-Smith and guard Spencer Dinwiddie, along with one first-round draft pick and multiple second-rounders. The trade was first reported by the Athletic and ESPN.
Feb 5 (Reuters) - The Brooklyn Nets have traded All-Star guard Kyrie Irving, whose tenure with the club included dozens of missed games due in part to his refusal to get the COVID-19 vaccine, to the Dallas Mavericks, according to reports on Sunday. Prior to his apology, the Nets suspended Irving for at least five games, saying that despite holding two news conferences, he had refused to disavow anti-Semitism. That followed a 2021-22 season during which Irving played only 29 of the Nets' 82 regular season games as he refused to comply with New York City's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Irving was selected with the first overall pick of the 2011 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he spent six seasons before being traded to the Boston Celtics. Brooklyn's Kyrie Irving is going to the Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks and Brooklyn Nets agreed Sunday on a blockbuster trade: Irving — the super-talented and often-enigmatic eight-time All-Star point guard — heads to Dallas, ending the pairing with Kevin Durant that never really had a chance to click. It was not immediately clear when Irving would make his debut with Dallas. And I think for Dallas, they got a big-time star to go with the one they've got." The trade does again pair Irving with Dallas general manager Nico Harrison, who was a Nike executive before taking over the Mavericks in 2021. After the Nets lost to Dallas at home in overtime in October, Irving said he saw traits of the Mavericks being "a great team."

The Brooklyn Nets Have Gotten Boring—and Brilliant

Just before Christmas, the Brooklyn Nets’ Kevin Durant was asked about his team’s absence from the NBA’s holiday slate of games. Under normal circumstances, a club with two A-list stars and title aspirations would be a no-brainer inclusion. Durant acknowledged that the abnormality of the Nets’ last few months, and specifically his offseason trade request, likely had something to do with it. “I probably [am] responsible for us not playing on Christmas, with what went on this summer,” Durant said with a grin. We play on the 26th, that’s close enough.”

Nike Severs Ties to Brooklyn Nets Player Kyrie Irving

Nike Inc. said Monday that Kyrie Irving is no longer a Nike athlete, ending a more than decadelong relationship with the basketball star that resulted in the creation of a sneaker line that was popular with professional athletes and consumers. The brief statement from the sneaker giant comes after it suspended its endorsement of Mr. Irving in early November and the release of the Kyrie 8, a sneaker model that had been expected to make its debut later that month. Nike decided to take action against Mr. Irving after he promoted a movie containing false conspiracies about Jews and was slow to disavow holding anti-Semitic beliefs. The Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association also suspended Mr. Irving at the time.

Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving recently tweeted a link to an antisemitic film, which led to his suspension. The film is available on Amazon, but CEO Andy Jassy seemed to imply the company wouldn't pull it. "We have hundreds of millions of customers with lots of different viewpoints," he said. But it doesn't seem like Amazon will budge on removing the film and book from its platform. "We have hundreds of millions of customers with lots of different viewpoints.
NEW YORK (AP) — Kyrie Irving returned to the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday and apologized to anyone who felt threatened or hurt when he posted a link to a documentary with antisemitic material. Irving was suspended by the team on Nov. 3, hours after he refused to say he had no antisemitic beliefs when meeting with reporters at the Nets’ practice facility. Back at the building for the team’s morning shootaround, Irving said he should have handled that interview differently. “I don’t stand for anything close to hate speech or antisemitism or anything that is going against the human race,” Irving said. But the Nets praised Irving on Sunday for the steps he has since taken.
CNN —Kyrie Irving, the Brooklyn Nets star who was suspended for at least five games by the team for comments made after sharing a link to an antisemitic movie on social media, has issued another apology as his possible return from suspension nears. Putting some type of threat, or assumed threat, on the Jewish community,” Irving told SNY. Irving reiterated he is not “anti-Jewish” and apologized to the Jewish community. I got a chance to do that with people from the Jewish community, people from the Black community, from the White community,” Irving said. No, I’m not anti-Jewish.’ I’m a person who believes we should all have equal opportunities and that we should all shower each other with love, and that should be at the forefront,” he continued.
CNN —Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving, who was suspended for at least five games by the team for comments made after sharing a link to an antisemitic movie on social media, is due this week to miss his eighth consecutive game. Thursday’s matchup in Portland against the Trail Blazers will mark two weeks since the Nets announced it was suspending Irving, saying at the time “he is currently unfit to be associated with the Brooklyn Nets.” The team has not said when Irving’s suspension could end. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, citing sources, Irving could return as soon as Sunday, when Brooklyn plays at home against the Memphis Grizzlies. CNN reached out to the Nets on Wednesday evening for comment but did not immediately hear back. “He’s someone I’ve known for a decade, and I’ve never heard an antisemitic word from him or, frankly, hate directed at any group,” Silver said.
CNN —Luka Doncić scored 35 points, including a clutch three-pointer with less than 30 seconds remaining, to give the Dallas Mavericks a 103-101 win over the LA Clippers despite blowing a 25-point lead. “Luka Magic” also had 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals, making every one of his 11 free throws along the way. Up against an injury-hit Clippers team – including Kawhi Leonard who is managing a knock to his knee – the Mavericks took a 15 point first-quarter lead. Mavs fans will be relieved as they narrowly avoided losing their second game of the season after leading by 22 or more. “We’re giving up a lot of big leads, just like we drew it up,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said after the game.
CNN —Dave Chappelle addressed several contentious topics in his latest “Saturday Night Live” monologue, focusing mostly on Kanye West’s recent antisemitic comments. In a lengthy stand-up set, Chappelle name-checked former President Donald Trump and Senate candidate Herschel Walker – and also may have alluded to the negative reaction to jokes he’s made about transgender people. Before he began his routine, he unfolded a small piece of paper and read from it: “‘I denounce antisemitism in all its forms. “Whoever they are.”Chappelle has made explicit jokes about trans women’s bodies and misgendered trans people in several stand-up specials released in the last few years. Chappelle addressed the criticism on tour shortly after the release of his special, telling his audience he was willing to talk with trans critics but was not “bending to anybody’s demands.”
CNN —Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai says he believes Nets star Kyrie Irving “does not have any beliefs of hate towards Jewish people.”Tsai tweeted on Friday: “Clara and I met with Kyrie and his family yesterday. We spent quality time to understand each other and it’s clear to me that Kyrie does not have any beliefs of hate towards Jewish people or any group. The 30-year-old NBA star apologized on his Instagram account after his suspension was announced. Earlier in the week, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said he believes that Irving is not antisemitic following a meeting between the two. Silver said the Nets along with the league will consult to decide when Irving can return from suspension.
Nov 12 (Reuters) - Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving's team-imposed, minimum five-game suspension for promoting an anti-Semitic documentary will extend to a sixth game, according to an ESPN report on Saturday. The Nets' game on Saturday at the Los Angeles Clippers marked the fifth contest of the suspension imposed on Irving but head coach Jacque Vaughn said in the report he would not be reinstated for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers. "I do know (Irving's) not available (on Sunday)," Vaughn said before Saturday's game, according to the report. Before he posted his apology, the Nets suspended Irving, saying that despite speaking to reporters during two media availabilities, he had refused to disavow anti-Semitism. Irving has since met with National Basketball Association Commissioner Adam Silver, who said he did not believe the Brooklyn Nets guard was anti-Semitic.
CNN —NBA commissioner Adam Silver believes that suspended Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving is not antisemitic following a meeting between the two earlier in the week, the commissioner told the New York Times. Silver, who is Jewish, told the Times that the two had “a direct and candid conversation” at the league’s headquarters in New York. While the NBA did not hand down its own suspension to Irving, Silver said the punishment “got to the right outcome,” acknowledging the criticism the league faced for not suspending Irving sooner. Silver told the audience that Amazon bore some of the responsibility for having the film on its platform. Silver said the Nets along with the league will consult to decide when Irving can return from suspension.
Nets' Irving is not anti-Semitic, says NBA Commissioner Silver
  + stars: | 2022-11-11 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
Nov 10 (Reuters) - NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said he met with Kyrie Irving earlier this week and that he did not believe the Brooklyn Nets guard was anti-Semitic, Yahoo Sports reported on Thursday. Irving was heavily criticized for promoting a film that the seven-time All-Star has since said contained "false anti-Semitic statements". The Nets suspended him for at least five games after he "refused to unequivocally say he has no anti-Semitic beliefs". Silver added: "Whether or not he is anti-Semitic is not relevant to the damage caused by the posting of hateful content." If he serves a five-game suspension, Irving would be available to play Nov. 13 against the Lakers in Los Angeles.
