CNN —Senate Republicans on Tuesday blocked an attempt by Democrats to pass a bill to ban bump stocks in the wake of a recent Supreme Court ruling. The bill would enact a federal ban on the sale of bump stock devices. Bump stocks allow a shooter to convert a semi-automatic rifle into a weapon that can fire at a rate of hundreds of rounds a minute. The Supreme Court on Friday struck down a federal ban on bump stocks approved by former President Donald Trump, the latest opinion from the conservative court rolling back firearm regulations. While some Republicans support a ban on bump stocks, the issue has divided GOP senators in the aftermath of the high court ruling.

You have to read through the job description to see what they're looking for. You have to list job titles and bullets that both reflect your experience and prove you're a good fit. With the advent of tech like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot, many people are leaning into generative AI to write their resumes entirely. If you ask for a "marketing resume," for example, it will create something based on any marketing job descriptions or marketing resumes it scrapes from the web. Recruiters and hiring managers who look at hundreds of resumes say at times "100 of them look exactly the same because they all use the same ChatGPT prompt," she says.

She said AI is set to remove "a lot of waste out of people's jobs," and bring about a "phenomenal productivity uplift." While missing a host of brands, this year's edition of the Los Angeles Auto Show debuted a range of new models. But at least one automaker says it is ramping up its North American EV strategy in 2024: Honda Motor Company. Honda's EV moves come against the backdrop of EV pullbacks from other major auto manufacturers; and in some cases, shelved EV plans altogether. GM itself is playing a key role in the first mass-market EV Honda is introducing, the Prologue. When you're applying for a job, many career experts will tell you to tailor your resume to the job description. They recommend sifting through its requirements to see what's most relevant for the role and tweaking your resume accordingly. Longtime HR executive James Hudson, who's led talent acquisition at companies like Nike and Levi Strauss & Co., disagrees with this approach. "It's bad advice to customize your resume" for every role, he says. But the job description itself might not give a 100% sense of where the emphasis will be on day-to-day job duties.

New research this week is adding fresh detail to one of paleontology’s biggest questions: Did dinosaur blood run hot or cold? Clues from fossilized eggshells and bones have now suggested that some dinosaurs were warm-blooded and others were not. Reinhard Dirscherl/ullstein bild/Getty ImagesMarine scientists have used artificial intelligence to decode previously unknown complexity in the calls of sperm whales. The whales produced a catalog of clicking sounds, which the researchers described as akin to a “phonetic alphabet” for sperm whales. What sperm whales are saying with their clicks remains a mystery to human ears, but understanding the scope of their vocal exchanges is an important step toward linking their calls with specific behavior.

The American press, he writes in clear-eyed terms, “shouldn’t be neutral about upholding democracy” and must not “dispassionately observe our way to authoritarianism.”We spoke with Kristof over email for a Q&A about this and more. This is strange for a pundit to admit, but I think there’s too much punditry in journalism today and not enough reporting. … We journalists shouldn’t dispassionately observe our way to authoritarianism; we shouldn’t be neutral about upholding democracy.” Do you believe your colleagues in the press are as clear-eyed about this as you are?
