Feb 24 (Reuters) - Warner Bros Discovery's (WBD.O) shares fell on Friday as Wall Street sees more pain for the media giant that posted more than $2 billion in fourth-quarter losses and cut annual profit forecast as ad market weakness persists. The uncertainty of an ad market recovery in the current market condition, with a potential recession looming, is hounding large media and tech firms such as Paramount Global (PARA.O) and Google-parent Alphabet Inc (GOOGL.O) alike. "The biggest unknown continues to be in the ad sales environment," Gunnar Wiedenfels, chief financial officer of Warner Bros Discovery said. This implies a range of $11 billion to $11.5 billion, below its previous target of $12 billion. The company reported a wider-than-expected loss of 86 cents per share in the quarter due to restructuring charges related to its merger joining Discovery Inc and AT&T (T.N) spin-off Warner Media.
Republican U.S. Representative Matt Gaetz owned corporate stock in a company that received nearly $500,000 in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans forgiven in 2020, but users online are claiming that he personally received PPP loan forgiveness without owning a company. A Twitter post said: “Don’t forget, Matt Gaetz had $482,321 in PPP loans forgiven despite the fact that he doesn’t own a company. The Pandemic Response Accountability Committee (PRAC), which was created as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), includes a dashboard to search for all the PPP loans forgiven (here). A search for Caregivers, Inc. on the PRAC PPP dashboard shows that it received $482,321 in PPP loans forgiven to cover payroll, which matches the amount in the social media posts (see the “PPP Details” section). U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz did not personally receive $482,321 in PPP loans forgiven, but he owned stock in a company that received loan forgiveness during the pandemic.

Discovery has signed a deal with VideoAmp to measure its audience as an alternative means of data for advertisers, the companies announced Tuesday. Firms like Nielsen and VideoAmp offer audience estimates and data that TV networks and streamers use to sell slots for commercials. The merger between Discovery and Warner Media closed in 2022, amassing a portfolio of TV networks including the Discovery Channel, TLC, TNT, TBS and others. The merged company plans to roll out a revamped streaming platform in the spring, combining its Discovery+ with Warner's HBO Max. "Traditional media measurement has not kept pace with how consumers are engaging with streaming and linear content.
If you're thinking about buying a foreclosed home, here's everything you'll need to know. With a short sale, you'll be buying the home from the owner, but the lender will need to agree to the amount. It depends on the type of foreclosure you're buying. If you're buying a foreclosure at auction, you'll need to attend the auction and make a high enough bid to get the home. If you're considering buying a foreclosure, you need to be prepared to do a lot of research and learn everything you can about the process.

The golden age of streaming TV is over

That August, the streaming analyst Eric Schiffer told The Verge that the "golden age" was over as competition increased, and Netflix was putting creators on a shorter leash. But just as Netflix was pulling back from its most creative content, the streaming wars were heating up. Netflix is now churning out cheap and broadly appealing reality TV shows like "Is It Cake?" Despite positioning itself for years as the ad-free way to watch TV, Netflix in October launched a lower-cost, ad-supported tier in many of its major markets. As the cheap money disappears, we're starting to get a better picture of the actual price of streaming media.
As a result, Netflix and other streamers are retreating from any sort of creative risk in favor of humdrum, lowest-common-denominator shows. "The $500,000 people like me, we’re not going to be players in 2024," said Dick Harpootlian, a longtime Democratic donor and South Carolina state senator. CNN Business —The cost of a New York City taxi ride is expected to increase by nearly 23% by the end of 2022, marking the first taxi fare increase in a decade, according to a unanimous vote held Tuesday by the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission. Additionally, the base rate for New York City cabs is expected to rise from $2.50 to $3.00, while rush hour surcharges will increase from $1 to $2.50. Gross income of TLC drivers is projected to increase by 33% due to the newly approved fare increases, which are expected to go into effect shortly before the end of this year. “Raising taxi fare rates and minimum pay for high-volume drivers is the right thing to do for our city. “I think part of it and part of our idea with increasing the taxi fare is that the financial compensation just isn’t there.

The arrival of thousands of migrants in New York, Washington, Chicago and beyond has sent officials in those cities scrambling to establish a system of support services, with mixed success. The Office of Migrant Services in Washington, D.C., will offer urgent medical care and connection to resettlement services. Phillips said migrants have been calling volunteer groups in the city “constantly” with problems, leaving volunteers in rapid-response mode. Abry Partners' $100 million stake in Kevin Hart's company HartBeat is the latest big M&A move in Hollywood. Dealmakers said production companies are valuable amid the streaming wars and demand for content. The M&A activity had top Hollywood dealmakers telling Insider in early 2022 that practically every independent production company is a target. Many production companies make work-for-hire or don't control the rights to a project once it is sold off to a studio distributor. Based on January interviews with five entertainment industry experts and insiders, Insider identified a list of 10 production companies that could be compelling acquisition targets as M&A activity continues.
