Fresh off a $1.1 billion equity funding round, artificial intelligence infrastructure startup CoreWeave has raised $7.5 billion in debt to more heavily invest in its cloud data centers. That means CoreWeave, backed by Nvidia, is going up against the world's top cloud infrastructure operators, including Amazon and Google . On its website, CoreWeave claims to have lower on-demand prices than any major cloud company. Even Microsoft , the world's second-largest provider of cloud infrastructure, has started relying on CoreWeave to help supply OpenAI with the computing power it needs. Such GPUs were used as collateral in a $2.3 billion debt round last year, Reuters reported.

Investors in Blackstone's real-estate fund asked for their money back in droves — more than $15 billion to date. Unless the real-estate market comes roaring back, analysts warn, BREIT could end up shrinking to a fraction of its current size, leaving the fund's investors holding the bag. Only 3% of BREIT's holdings are in office buildings, which have been ground zero for commercial real estate pain. Shari Redstone, chair of Paramount Global, attends the Allen & Co. Media and Technology Conference in Sun Valley, Idaho, on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. The consortium has been waiting for word from Paramount's special committee on whether the panel will recommend its bid to acquire the company to Redstone. Spokespeople for Skydance, Redstone's National Amusements and Paramount's special committee declined to comment on Friday. Bill Stone, chief investment officer at Glenview Trust, has attended 20 Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholder meetings in Omaha, Nebraska. A longtime Warren Buffett disciple and a Berkshire shareholder since 1999, Stone's own investing style has been inspired by the "Oracle of Omaha" — a value-oriented approach with an emphasis on the so-called margin of safety. "You look at stocks, not as pieces of paper, but as businesses," he said in CNBC's latest Pro Talks . Can I possibly forecast that they'll continue to earn these profits?" Spokespeople for Paramount, Redstone's National Amusements, the special committee and Skydance declined to comment. Sony Pictures and private equity firm Apollo Global Management have sent a letter to the Paramount Global board expressing interest in acquiring the company for about $26 billion, according to people familiar with the matter. Paramount Global shares jumped more than 12% on the news that Sony and Apollo submitted a letter formalizing its interest, earlier reported by The New York Times and Wall Street Journal. A $26 billion offer for Paramount Global values the company higher than the company's current $22 billion enterprise value. Bitcoin miners brace for impact as halving goes live

The technical event is relatively simple: Bitcoin miners get paid in bitcoin to validate transactions, and after 210,000 blocks of transactions are computed and added to the main chain, the reward given to the miners securing bitcoin is 'halved.' The aggregate market cap of the 14 U.S.-listed bitcoin miners tracked by JPMorgan analysts declined 28% over the first half of April to $14.2 billion, reaching year-to-date lows. Some have billed the 2024 bitcoin halving as a seminal moment for the mining sector. Marathon, along with other mining firms, has begun diversifying its business model into ancillary operations beyond purely bitcoin mining.
