“I have a plan and strategy,” Ivan Raiklin, a former Green Beret and political operative who has close ties to associates of Trump, told a group of Pennsylvania activists earlier this month. Four years ago, Trump’s unsuccessful efforts to overturn his loss to President Joe Biden didn’t truly materialize until after the election. Brian Snyder/ReutersBut this time around, MAGA activists have been planning to undermine a potential Harris victory well in advance of the election, with some even arguing that state legislators should simply ignore the election results and award electoral votes to Trump by default. “Those looking to overturn the election are way ahead of where they were in 2020,” said Harris. Trump himself has echoed some of the conspiracy theories pushed by his supporters, suggesting that election fraud is rampant in 2024.

Now, anti-Trump statues are popping up in more US cities. The latest appeared in Philadelphia’s Maja Park Wednesday morning, where someone positioned a roughly eight-foot statue of Donald Trump directly behind a sculpture of a nude woman. Pedestrians look at a statue of Donald Trump behind Gerhard Marcks' sculpture Maja, in Maja Park in Philadelphia. A seemingly identical Trump statue popped up in downtown Portland, Oregon, last weekend. The anonymous artist says Jimenez-Pyzik only helped the group apply for permits – and she’s now being hounded with inquiries as more statues mysteriously appear.

I do think that seeing a woman on the ballot will, hopefully, encourage more women to vote, even if they don't vote for Harris. At the time, I thought it was going to be a landslide, like 'We're about to have our first woman president.' I don't think everybody in the U.S. will ever be ready for a woman president, but I don't think everybody in the U.S. was ready for a Black president either. Even if Kamala wins, I don't think everybody in the U.S. is ready for a woman president, just like they weren't ready for a Black president. I think Harris is just bringing a lot of new people into the process who haven't necessarily felt included before.

UNRWA provides far more than humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip. Many Palestinians see darker motives, viewing the UNRWA ban as Israel's latest attempt to make their lives unlivable, first imprisoning and bombing them, now taking away their main aid lifeline. Palestinians wait to receive medicines at the UNRWA health center in Khan Younis last month. Despite its endorsements, the United States is yet to resume funding to UNRWA after Israel's Oct. 7 allegations. In an interview with the New York Times, Stewart praised the first half of Netflix's "Martha" while describing the rest as "a bit lazy." She told the newspaper over the phone that she felt the film spent too long on her time in prison and lacked color. "The trial and the actual incarceration was less than two years out of an 83-year life," Stewart said. In 2017, Stewart described her time in federal lockup as a "horrifying experience" and that "nothing" was good about it. "And that’s the thing I like most about the documentary," Stewart said.

The U.S. economy posted another solid though slightly disappointing period of growth in the third quarter, propelled higher by strong consumer spending that has defied expectations for a slowdown. The economy accelerated at a 3% pace in the second quarter. Personal consumption expenditures, the proxy for consumer activity, increased 3.7% for the quarter, the strongest performance since Q1 of 2023. The release comes with the Federal Reserve poised to lower inflation rates further despite the seemingly strong economy and inflation that remains above target, though far from its peak in mid-2022. Markets widely expect the Fed to cut another quarter percentage point off its benchmark short-term borrowing rate when policymakers conclude their two-day meeting on Nov. 7.

BRUSSELS, Belgium — The European Union is imposing duties on imports of electric vehicles from China starting Wednesday after talks between Brussels and Beijing failed to find an amicable solution to their trade dispute. According to the commission, which manages trade disputes on behalf of the 27 E.U. member countries, sales of Chinese-built electric cars jumped from 3.9% of the EV market in 2020 to 25% by September 2023, in part by unfairly undercutting E.U. Other EV manufacturers in China, including Western companies such as Volkswagen and BMW, would be subject to duties of 20.7%. The measures were published in the bloc’s legal Official Journal late Tuesday, meaning duties entered into force as of midnight, said E.U.

It is clear what Russia stands to gain from an influx of some 10,000 North Korean troops to aid its war in Ukraine. North Korean troops are expected to help with that. North Korea, for its part, needs a partner that will shield it from the United Nations Security Council as it pursues its nuclear ambitions. “North Korea is trying to get as many benefits as it can from this relationship,” said Edward Howell, an expert on North Korea at the Chatham House think tank. “If thousands of North Korean troops learn how to survive on a battlefield full of drones,” Gabuev said, “that is a lesser problem than North Korea having quieter nuclear-capable submarines.

According to Hurun's 2024 rich list, China lost 432 billionaires since the high of 1,185 in 2021. Hurun, a private research group that has tracked Chinese billionaires since 1999, said the total peaked in 2021 with 1,185 billionaires, a figure which fell to 753, a decline of 432, or 36% of the total. It comes as some of China's superrich choose to lie low or leave the country, finding covert ways to take their money with them. "The stories of the individuals on the Hurun China Rich List tell the story of the Chinese economy," said Rupert Hoogewerf, Hurun's Chairman and Chief Researcher. The 6-trillion-yuan worth of debt would be raised over three years including 2024, said the sources, adding the proceeds would primarily be used to help local governments address off-the-books debt risks. Local governments would be allowed to raise that amount on top of their usual annual issuance quota, which mainly funds infrastructure spending. The quota stood at 3.9 trillion yuan this year and 3.8 trillion in 2023. The latest move is aimed at enhancing local governments' ability to manage land supply, and alleviate liquidity and debt pressures on both local governments and property developers, they added. Special-purpose bonds are a tool for off-budget debt financing used by Chinese local governments, with the proceeds raised typically earmarked for specific policy objectives, such as infrastructure expenditures.

An eighth-inning rally capped by sacrifice flies by second baseman Gavin Lux and outfielder Mookie Betts put the Dodgers in front. This title, the eighth in franchise history, can stand beside the Dodgers’ trophy from the pandemic-shortened season in 2020. The precedent feels preposterous until you consider the current Dodgers who will one day join them in the Hall of Fame. “Mark,” he told Freeman, “wants to win really bad.” That desire became clear to Ohtani when he met with the Dodgers. Ambassador Nikki Haley was critical of Trump world on Tuesday for being “overly masculine with this bromance thing” following the former president's rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. On Fox News Tuesday, Haley addressed a comedian’s racist jokes about Puerto Rico and Latinos, a moment that has roiled the Trump campaign and was condemned by multiple Republicans, including members of Congress. “This is not a time to have anyone criticize Puerto Rico or Latinos,” Haley said, instead calling for discipline around the campaign. The Trump campaign did not immediately return a request for comment. “This bromance and masculinity stuff, it borders on edgy to the point that it’s going to make women uncomfortable,” Haley said.

In today’s edition, national political correspondent Steve Kornacki breaks down the key areas where Donald Trump's standing with Puerto Rican voters will be tested. Where Trump’s support among Puerto Rican voters will be put to the testSteve KornackiDonald Trump’s campaign appearance in Allentown, Pa., this evening comes amid questions over whether the fallout from his Madison Square Garden rally will cost him support among Puerto Rican voters. Allentown is a majority-Hispanic city of 125,000, and about one-quarter of its overall population is of Puerto Rican descent — one of the highest concentrations of Puerto Ricans anywhere in the U.S. Pennsylvania’s polls will close at 8 p.m. EST on Election Night, but we may get a big clue about Trump’s Puerto Rican support before that.
