Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos have a particularly sketchy past with President-elect Donald Trump. Meta donated $1 million to the inauguration, the company confirmed to CNBC, weeks after Zuckerberg dined with Trump privately at his Mar-a-Lago resort. Trump has been a vocal critic of tech companies, and he signaled earlier this month that he won't shy away from antitrust enforcement. The incoming president nominated Gail Slater, who advised Trump on tech policy during his first term, to head the Department of Justice's antitrust arm. In his first term, Trump repeatedly attacked Bezos and his companies, Amazon and The Washington Post, accusing them of dodging taxes or publishing "fake news," among other things.

Elon Musk's estimated net worth has now surpassed $400 billion, according to an estimate from Bloomberg News — the first person ever to reach such a milestone. As Tesla shares hit a new all-time high Wednesday, Musk's wealth leapt to some $440 billion, according to Bloomberg. A separate billionaire index tracked by Forbes pegs Musk's net worth at about $369 billion, with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos at No. Yet Musk's net worth has climbed even without that compensation deal, which is now worth $100 billion. Musk spent much of the year focused on the 2024 election: Federal Election Commission filings show he spent nearly a quarter of $1 billion on helping elect Donald Trump to a second term as president.

The valuation of Elon Musk's SpaceX hit $350 billion based on a secondary share sale, CNBC confirmed on Wednesday. SpaceX, as well as investors, agreed to buy stock from insiders in a $1.25 billion purchase offer at $185 a share, according to copies of the offer obtained by CNBC. The company routinely performs these secondary rounds — about twice a year — to give employees and other shareholders a chance to sell stock. The latest valuation represents a 67% surge from SpaceX's previous high of $210 billion, which the company hit through a June secondary share sale. SpaceX's soaring valuation comes as the company furthers its dominant position in the space industry, all while Musk has become an influential figure in the coming presidential administration.

Elon Musk’s net worth has reached $400 billion, according to Bloomberg, making him the first person ever to cross that mark. The world’s wealthiest man is now roughly $136 billion richer since November 5, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. As of December 10, before his wealth skyrocketed to $400 billion, he was already $140 billion richer than the second-richest man on Earth, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Tesla's market value has swelled by about 66% this year, with almost all of those gains coming since Donald Trump's election victory early last month. The stock's 38% rally in November marked its best monthly performance since January of 2023 and its 10th best on record. Musk said during a Tesla earnings call in October that he intended to use his sway with Trump to establish a "federal approval process for autonomous vehicles." "The stock is responding to the Trump bump," Craig Irwin, an analyst at Roth MKM, told CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" last week. In its third-quarter earnings report in October, Tesla reported a year-over-year revenue increase of 8%, which fell just shy of estimates.

President-elect Donald Trump vowed Tuesday that people or companies who invest at least $1 billion in the U.S. will get "fully expedited approvals and permits." Trump said in a post on Truth Social that environmental approvals are included as part of that investment incentive. "Any person or company investing ONE BILLION DOLLARS, OR MORE, in the United States of America, will receive fully expedited approvals and permits, including, but in no way limited to, all Environmental approvals. Trump's transition team did not immediately respond when CNBC asked for detail and clarity on what sort of rules or regulations would be diminished in order to provide "fully expedited" approvals or permits. By singling out environmental approvals, Trump's post also puts a spotlight on his plans to roll back a slew of Biden-era policies, including electric vehicle tax credits and stricter fuel standards, aimed at addressing climate change.

CNN —Elon Musk has long been known for his competitive spirit — and for his list of rivals. That could come in the form of starting or dropping government investigations, creating or weakening regulations, and awarding government contracts to the benefit of Musk’s companies. OpenAI called Musk’s claims “incoherent” and “frivolous.” And Musk dropped the suit after OpenAI published several of Musk’s emails from OpenAI’s early days. Musk and Ramaswamy’s DOGE effort has an expiration date in 2026, but some who know Musk wonder if his relationship with Trump will sour sooner than that. But until then, Musk said the best way for him to be lobbied is on X, his social media platform.
