Presicce, Italy is providing roughly $30,000 to people who move to the historic town. It's just the latest small Italian village to try to lure newcomers by dangling major incentives. Other Italian towns experiencing population declines and struggling with derelict properties have instituted similar programs. According to Italian listing site Immobiliare, homes in the Presicce-Acquarica comune normally sell for 669 euros, or about $690, per square meter. A typical home of 46 square meters, or about 500 square feet, would normally cost just over $31,000.

ROME, Nov 28 (Reuters) - More than 90% of Italian municipalities are prone to landslides or other natural disasters, the head of the national civil protection agency said in a Monday interview. "94% of municipalities are at risk of flooding, landslides, coastal erosion," Fabrizio Curcio told La Stampa newspaper, adding that "all of Italy is at risk." Curcio spoke after a mudslide devastated the southern Italian holiday island of Ischia on Saturday, causing the death of at least seven people. He said Ischia was at greater risk because many of its houses were built illegally, but stressed that other parts of Italy with fewer land planning violations were also vulnerable. Densely populated, Ischia is a volcanic island which lies some 30 km (19 miles) from Naples. Two families, including some children, were believed to be among the missing, according to local officials. "People must understand that they can't live in some areas and buildings in risky areas must be torn down", Campania governor Vincenzo De Luca told state broadcaster RAI on Sunday.

The prefect for the Naples region, which includes Ischia, said at least 12 people were missing. Claudio Palomba also was quoted by Italian media as saying that no deaths had been confirmed. MILAN, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Italy prohibited the use of facial recognition and 'smart glasses' on Monday as its Data Protection Agency issued a rebuke to two municipalities experimenting with the technologies. Facial recognition systems using biometric data will not be allowed until a specific law is adopted or at least until the end of next year, the privacy watchdog said. "The moratorium arises from the need to regulate eligibility requirements, conditions and guarantees relating to facial recognition, in compliance with the principle of proportionality," the agency said in a statement. The agency was reacting to measures taken in the southern Italian city of Lecce, where authorities said they would begin using a technology based on facial recognition. The privacy watchdog also targeted the Tuscan city of Arezzo, where local police were due to be equipped with infrared super glasses that can recognise car number plates.
