CNBC Daily Open brings investors up to speed on everything they need to know, no matter where they are. What you need to know todayThe bottom lineInvestors got a brief reprieve from bad news and rising costs yesterday, which helped to ease pressure from stocks. "I don't think you get a broader [rally] participation until rates ease up, and that's only if rates ease without some sort of financial crisis or hard landing recession," said Ross Mayfield, investment strategy analyst at Baird. Echoing Mayfield, Liz Young, SoFi's head of investment strategy, said, "Obviously, we're getting a little reprieve today, but I think it's just that."

Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 57 points, or 0.2%. Stocks were aided by a retreat in Treasury yields. The rate on the 10-year Treasury note slipped from highs last seen in 2007 after payroll processing firm ADP said that private job growth totaled 89,000 for September. The spread between the 2-year and 10-year Treasury yields ended Wednesday at about 31 basis points. The 2- and 10-year yield curve has been inverted since March 2022 – meaning short-term Treasury rates are higher than long-term rates.

Anthony Noto, CEO of digital banking and personal finance company SoFi , told CNBC's Jim Cramer the company has been able to grow immensely since it received its banking license. The company has its roots in financing student loans but was licensed to become a bank last year. SoFi's second-quarter report showed the company had gained more than 584,000 new members during the quarter, with more than 6.2 million total members, up 44% year over year. Noto added that SoFi is attracting customers with its mobile-first technology and financial products such as personal loans to pay off credit card debt, as well as student loan refinancing. "If you have a student loan, you want to lower your monthly payment, you're able to do that either via a lower rate or extending the term," Noto said.

Student loan borrowers are set to restart their payments after a three-year reprieve, and Bank of America said SoFi Technologies could be a big beneficiary from an uptick in refinance activity. "We believe the uptick in deposits could also be a sign of increased student loan refinance activity," Bank of America analyst Mihir Bhatia said in a note. "SOFI should benefit from higher student loan refinances given its strong position in the student loan refi market." As a result, millions of borrowers in October will make their first student loan payment since before the Covid-19 pandemic hit. SOFI YTD mountain SoFI Bank of America said SoFi had about 60% market share in private student loan refi in recent quarters, up from 40% in the pre-pandemic era.
