Emirates Stadium CNN —It wasn’t pretty and at times it wasn’t pleasant, but Arsenal got the job done in the Champions League with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday. After Riznyk saved Leandro Trossard’s second-half penalty, Shakhtar went in search of a late equaliser but a combination of poor final passes and resolute Arsenal defending mean it leaves north London empty handed. The home fans responded to Arsenal’s positive start, as the first chants of “Arsenal, Arsenal,” echoed around the Emirates. After successfully riding the early waves of Arsenal attacks, Shakhtar grew into the game and started to look like a threat on the counterattack. Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya had to get down smartly to save Pedrinho’s long-range shot, but that was the closest Shakhtar came to snatching a point.

No matter the poll, voters consistently say that the cost of living is their top concern, usually followed by threats to democracy, immigration and the economy in general. Female voters are backing Harris by 14 points, while Trump is winning men by 16 points, according to the latest NBC News poll. The October NBC News poll showed Harris leading Trump by 5 points, 45% to 40%, on who better represents change. Yet he isn’t all that impressed with Obama, the nation’s first Black president, nor Harris, who would be the second. “He’s only gaining support with Black men.”Democrats have been unnerved by recent polls that show Harris’ numbers sagging among Black voters, particularly young Black men.

Yet he isn’t all that impressed with Obama, the nation’s first Black president, nor Harris, who would be the second. “He’s only gaining support with Black men.”Democrats have been unnerved by recent polls that show Harris’ numbers sagging among Black voters, particularly young Black men. At a pair of rallies in Tucson and Las Vegas in recent days, Obama drew thousands of cheering supporters, though the turnout among young Black men appeared sparse. He came to hear Obama speak and as he stood in line for the event on campus, he said he didn’t see Obama as a figure who would be especially influential with young Black men. First, higher interest rates will reward savers, making it more expensive to take risks. And with interest rates so low, companies could suddenly load up on debt: From 2007 to 2017, global nonfinancial corporate debt doubled, to $66 trillion. Now, with the arrival of a new supercycle, money managers are once again being forced to adapt to a changing set of economic realities. Normally, when the Fed hikes interest rates rapidly, the stock market tanks. Rising interest rates will make loans more expensive, forcing businesses to make more-thoughtful decisions about debt.

Vice President Kamala Harris still has a wide lead over former President Donald Trump among Black voters in battleground states, according to a new poll, which shows a key slice of undecided Black voters still poised to make a decision about the presidential election. The findings, from a Howard University Initiative on Public Opinion poll of 981 likely Black voters in battleground states — Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — show that 84% of likely Black voters will support Harris in November and 8% say they’ll support Trump. While an overwhelming majority of Black voters overall plan to support Harris, the data shows a small shift among independents from a month ago. Black voters support Harris by large margins across all age groups, but her margin among young voters (63 points) is much smaller than her margin among older voters (82 points). Among undecided Black voters, 19% said the economy is the most important issue to their vote, followed by inflation/cost of living (14%).

In the most recent NBC News poll, 54% of respondents say they disapprove of the job Biden is doing. In fact, Biden is now more personally unpopular than either Harris or Trump. Between now and Election Day, I do expect Harris to find more ways to differentiate herself from Biden. If that’s a Biden “hangover” that ends up hurting Trump more than Biden, it means team Harris effectively weaponized his age. In this most recent poll, Trump was losing the core Democratic states by only 13 points.

Black men have historically voted overwhelmingly for Democratic candidates, with turnout typically lagging that of Black women but consistent nonetheless. Even a relatively small drop in support from Black men for Harris could be significant given the razor-thin margins in battleground states. “Black men prioritize being the primary breadwinners of the household and care about real wages and permanent jobs. The Harris campaign also plans to ramp up its programming specifically designed to engage Black men. While Harris has gained ground on stewardship of the economy, Trump still leads in most surveys about the issue, which frequently ranks as the top concern for voters. The Harris campaign and Democratic allies believe she must erode that advantage and at least fight it to a draw. The economic issue is still Trump’s core advantage and one of the only reasons this race is as close as it is.”Still, Harris is performing better than Biden did on the economy against Trump. “People almost always say ‘I hate him but,’ or ‘I like him and’ — ‘but he did a good job on the economy,’ ‘the economy is better under him,’” she said.
