"We do definitely believe that's coming down over time," Yellen said in an interview on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings in Morocco. Yellen has long said that housing costs, will ease over time, helping to bring down core inflation, and said Thursday's CPI report has not deterred her from that view. "I think we have very good reason to believe, with lags, that will come down, and I don't think there's anything in the report that would cause us to think that's a mistake in judgment," Yellen said.

Photo: Seth Wenig/Bloomberg NewsNew York’s civil fraud trial against Donald Trump and his business empire started Monday in a Manhattan courtroom, and the great shame is that he and state Attorney General Letitia James can’t both lose. In comments at the courthouse, Mr. Trump called it a “witch hunt,” and he has a point. Yet the investigation also seems to have caught some typical Trumpian deception.

Seth Wenig | ReutersThe $250 million civil fraud trial that could see former President Donald Trump permanently banned from doing business in New York began Monday. The trial comes a year after New York Attorney General Letitia James sued him, his company, three of his adult children, and top Trump Organization officials. Trump, who is seeking the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, arrived at Manhattan Supreme Court for the start of the trial. Engoron in that ruling canceled the defendants' New York business certificates and ordered an independent receiver to oversee their dissolution. Donald Trump has attacked the civil fraud case against him as political. AdvertisementAdvertisementFormer President — and 2024 Republican presidential frontrunner — Donald Trump has long complained that the legal cases against him are political. The New York Attorney General's $250 million civil fraud trial that began Monday morning, he says, is a "witch hunt." One of Trump's lawyers, Alina Habba, lambasted New York Attorney General Letitia James, an elected Democrat. The attorney general's lawsuit alleges that Trump, Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and two other Trump Organization executives are liable for fraud for misrepresenting the values of the company's property in financial statements submitted to banks for loans.

Seth Wenig/Pool via REUTERS/ File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON, Sept 29 (Reuters) - A government shutdown that could start this weekend would "undermine" U.S. economic progress by idling key programs for small businesses and children, and could delay major infrastructure improvements, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Friday. A shutdown of broad parts of the government would start on Sunday as the new fiscal year starts without new spending legislation from Congress. Chances of a shutdown increased on Thursday as the House pursued partisan spending cuts and the Senate advanced separate legislation to temporarily extend spending. "The failure of House Republicans to act responsibly would hurt American families and cause economic headwinds that could undermine the progress we’re making," Yellen said.

China, India and Brazil got larger shareholdings in the bank in a 2018 capital increase and would likely want more say in a future capital increase, Banga said. REUTERS/Seth Wenig/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsAug 30 (Reuters) - The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden on Wednesday moved to extend mandatory overtime pay to 3.6 million salaried workers, going even further than an Obama-era rule that was struck down in court. The proposed rule would not affect overtime eligibility for workers who are paid hourly. Salaried workers who earn above the salary threshold may still be eligible for overtime pay if they do not primarily perform management-related duties. But a federal judge in Texas the following year said that ceiling was so high that it could sweep in some management workers who are exempt from overtime pay protections. Ben Brubeck, vice president of construction trade group Associated Builders and Contractors, on Wednesday called the proposed rule disappointing.

For companies, the stakes are high this Pride

New York CNN —Companies have long embraced Pride Month in June as an uncomplicated way to market to members of the LGBTQ+ community while telegraphing progressive values. Gavin Newsom called out Target’s CEO for “selling out the LGBTQ+ community to extremists.”The current landscape “is alarming,” Todd said. “That middle ground is going away.”So this year, companies that want to participate in Pride have to be prepared to take a real stance. Some of those lashing out have described a campaign against Pride itself, rather than Bud Light or Target (TGT) specifically. It won’t be worth whatever they think they’ll gain.”It’s no coincidence that the anti-trans assault comes as trans rights are under legal attack across the nation.

New York CNN —When a Target distributor reached out to Erik Carnell last year about possibly placing his brand, Abprallen, in Target stores, he was thrilled. In the following months, Carnell pitched Target and came up with designs that would be appropriate for the big box store, he said. By Wednesday, Target had pulled Abprallen items from its US stores and online market, Reuters reported. CNN —It’s been a Block party all week at the PGA Championship, and the man at the heart of festivities is not done partying just yet. Michael Block, the 46-year-old club pro who teaches golf lessons at a public course in California, is schooling many of the game’s biggest stars on New York’s notoriously challenging Oak Hill East Course. In the 105 years of the PGA Championship, no PGA Professional has ever finished inside the top 10. Not since Steve Schneiter in 2005 has a PGA pro finished inside the top-40. Should he remain eighth at the end of play, Block will earn $545,000, according to CBS Golf – even 30th place would see him take home $110,000.

This week, he may deliver them a different kind of win even before the season starts: prime slots on the upcoming season’s schedule. For the past decade, though, the Jets haven’t exactly been able to celebrate much. While they languished on the field, the league and its broadcast partners weren’t keen on featuring them.
Former President Donald Trump faces 34 felony counts of falsifying business records for his alleged role in arranging a hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. Photo: Seth Wenig/Associated PressA New York judge ordered limits Monday on how Donald Trump can use and review evidence in advance of his criminal trial on charges connected to his role in paying hush money to a porn star. State Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan granted several requests made by the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg regarding the handling of evidence and other case information. Prosecutors, who have charged Mr. Trump with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, said the measures were needed to protect the integrity of the proceedings and the safety of case participants, citing the former president’s past attacks on judges, jurors and others.
